Okay, just to be clear, did you mean that you could invest 5 points into a skill, plus an additional point in up to 3 specializations?
>>
>>44247641
Up to 5 points total in any skill. Specializations cost 1 skill point each, and you can only buy a total of 3 different specializations at character creation. Specializations bought do not have to be for the same skill, but you can put all three into different specializations for the same skill if you want.

No reason he can't be bombastic, boy loved his stories when he was young and a but of the poet lies in his wounded soul.

Was flirting with the idea that as a result of his father's death he would have a great dislike of Heaven's Gold and while controlling it's trade he himself refused to use it, but it's a little hard to be the meanest son of a gun in the room when you're the only one not spliced. Could come up with some custom gears, weapons, and other equipment he could have to make up for it if I go that route.

Also thank you anon who suggested Pale Rider, it has been a big help. I've decided that his first foray into the world as a self made man is destroying a sluice mine single handed, drawing that company's hired guns out and having some of his small group of loyal workers attack the company's boss, taking the man's family hostage while the hired guns get butchered by a tough motherfucker out in the forest. He then arrives at this boss's mansion, forces the man to sign his company over to him, and forces the ex-boss to manage it with the threat of harm to him in front of his family.

Yeah I was thinking that I should keep that name for someone else.So far his new name is Tomas Grant, unless I think of something better.

In trying to really get a fix on the character I've been thinking about his past. Here is one of the more influential figures in his life and int eh setting.

Johnny Hopkins- Slave owner, runs the casino, horse races and the fighting ring. A long time friend of Grant's father, Johnny Hopkins was something of an uncle to the boy. Kinder and less strict than his father, Grant learned about the less 'proper' aspects of modern day living from Hopkins as the fat man joked, smiled and told the boy stories with winks and nudges. From him he learned about paying the proper respects to those you owe, where to show mercy and how to be friendly. A happy partner was a productive one, according to Hopkins.

>Johnny Hopkins
I read that as jenny, and immediately thought how much more compelling that character would be if it were female, a matriarch with the grit and balls to keep up with the men.

>a tough motherfucker
by the time the playesr come across this guy, who is like a bodyguard and go to muscle for the boss, he's be spliced up the ass, barely even human anymore.

The seeder aspects of Hopkins job were kept from Grant until he was older, until he was shoved face first into it by his father, who was growing madder by the day. His father had him learn boxing from one of the prize fighter, with instruction to not go easy on the fourteen year old boy.

He felt sorry for the boy but wasn't willing to coddle him, agreeing that Grant needed to toughen up. He was thoroughly impressed and happy as can be when about two years after Grant's father's death when the young man seized control of the sluice mines and the refinery.

Jeremiah Marshal- a severe man who inherited his lands from his father. Notoriously ruthless and a brilliant business man he managed to leverage the reservoir his family owned, which was the only source of water in the area, to get his hands on a number of small farms, tightening his family's hold over the necessities of life in the area. His wife died of tuberculosis when his son was young, leaving him the sole parent. He was incredibly strict when around, often dragging Grant around with him while working and questioning the boy, becoming violent if Grant got too m any questions wrong. Jeremiah died after an early experiment with Heaven's Gold drove him mad.

While Grant may have had issues with his father while younger he has since come to see the light of his father's ways and speaks affectionately of the old man.

Could he have developed some way to neutralise plasmids? Some pliced up fiend fronts up to him, he nulls their powers and beats the living fuck out of them with his bare hands while taunting them for being so reliant on plasmids/how worthless heaven's 'gold' really is.

First game went good, save for connection issue problems. Not much roll playing to go with out role playing, but the initial details went fair enough. Hopefully more to fiddle with come new years...
>>
>>44254130
Will you do a storytime here when there's more to tell?
>>
>>44254153
After next time yes, that sounds like it would be good.
>>
>>44254169
Cool. Any significant changes that will be made after the first game?
>>
>>44254237
As someone who participated, it was mostly talking/roleplaying, I think there was only about a half dozen rolls made. I'd be surprised if changes were due after that.

If I went that route it would be costly as a way to shut down plasmids seems kinda OP. Perhaps a one off item that cost a hell of a lot to make?

>>44253354
I was thinking of making him a native warrior, formally one of Hopkins' slaves, who Grant gives freedom. He either stays to be his bodyguard or goes out to reunite with his people. Either or he has insight into the ways Hopkins and Grant work to share with the players if they play their cards right. He is also incredibly spliced up and dangerous if they play those cards wrong.

Keeping in the themes of Bioshock, some sort of 'would you kindly' that causes them to fritz out for a minute, long enough for him to bring the pain.

>Guns of the Patriots for Plasmids
I'm so fucking stealing this for beta...
>>
>>44257154
I think it'd be cool if the game came with at least one well fleshed out alt bioshock type setting so players aren't in rapture or columbia every time.
>>
>>44257039
I could see such a thing being engineered into the industrialist's plasmids and tonics but not the natives. Considering the natives have the lion's share it wouldn't be too OP if it was in there.

Also, on native plasmids and tonics. In order to ensure a smooth assimilation of the plasmid or tonic the shaman or warrior is put into a trance-like state by the eldest shamans and they take part in a ritual that includes hallucinogens, chanting, and dancing. This helps the body assimilate the Heaven's Gold and helps stave off madness and genetic degradation (for a time).

>a woman having that kind of power in the Appalachians back then

All jokes aside, make it so she has leverage against every other figure of authority. Maybe her gang is notoriously violent. Maybe she can do what she wants because she has the dirt on everyone. Everyone but Grant, 'cause he just throws everything out of whack and makes the world heel.

Well Hopkins is already something of a momma bear, jovial and kind to his friends and family, caring (to an extent) of his slaves (because they perform better that way), but when he or his are threatened he's meaner than a bull with a set of slapped nuts.

There really wouldn't be much of a change if he was a woman, so Johnny is now Jenny, a fat, jolly business woman/ slave owner who runs the gambling rings and was something of an aunt to Grant Marshal. Also, something I was going to add to Johnny, is incredibly racist but not too extreme for her times.
>>
>>44257304
Someone gave an idea for random world generation rolls that people could make that I would include later down the line during Beta. But if someone has a really good world they'd like to include a write up for I could add it in.

That'd work really well is she was racist but in a condescending way, looking at blacks like useful, stupid animals too dumb to take care of or provide for themselves, so it falls on her to care for them, by making them slaves and giving them order, rules, work and consequences.
Instead of being like Odin 'I hate niggers' Quincannon she thinks blacks are short sighted, violent and basically animals, but with the right discipline and plenty of work, they can learn their place and contribute to society (as laborers and muscle).

>That dog attacked my boy for no reason. Just got it in his mind one day. Same with John Coffey. He was sorry afterwards. Of that, I have no doubt. But those little girls stayed raped and murdered. Maybe he'd never done it before. My dog never bit before, but I didn't concern myself with that. I went out there with my rifle, grabbed his collar and blew his brains out. Is Coffey guilty? Yes he is. Don't you doubt it, and don't you turn your back on him. You may get away with it once or even a hundred times. But in the end, you'll get bit.
