Have you ever played an old character?
>>
>>44097034
Sweet Jesus what happened to Kes?
>>
I had a Lazy Warlord who I fluffed as an old retried General.

Almost all of his abilities were yelling at the Whippersnappers that they were doing it wrong and telling them what to do.

Yes, i played an old fighter.

It was very enjoyable, i think I may do it again in the future.
>>
>>44097229
Copious amounts of drugs.

Yes. Played an old drunk creole necromancer in a setting where raising the dead was illegal. Loads of fun being crotchety and acting senile to throw people off.

Also showing nothing but contempt for these young upstarts as I slowly warm up to them.
>>
>>44097034

The last tow still look great!
>>
>>44097034
I noticed they all my stats were odd numbers. So I bumped my age category up to increase the modifier on my mental stats without decreasing the modifier to my physical ones.

It was min maxing for a caster, sure, but over time I started to grow into the role.
>>
>>44097229
To me she looks like a regular human being with an admittedly uncommon hairstyle.
>>
>>44097034
Yes, I played a 40 year old Ork Face.

Being an ancient legend in the Ork community was pretty great.
>>
I played a grizzled gunslinger who was getting too old for this shit.
>>
>>44097034
Do MILF clerics count?
>>
>>44097034
Yes. It's dope as shit as a Druid. Wis Bonus from age category, then wild shape and ignore the physical stat penalties.
>>
>>44097034
Im currently playing as a 56 year old human ranger in 3.5 who lost his pension, its loads of fun
>>
>>44098576
Only if she's ara ara~ and always surprised that anyone would be interesting in a woman like her
>>
>>44098727
Somewhat, but mostly she was a thick, curvy MILF with dem tits and dose child bearing hips who was too busy going around in full plate beating the fuck out of evil to think about that kind of thing
>>
I'm currently playing a 65ish year old Master of Many Forms ascetic with a Vow of Poverty, it's been pretty fun thus far.
>>
My longest-running character entered play aged 20, is now 67, and has the body of a 29 year old. The oldest character in our group is in his 80s and in the same sort of condition.

I don't play a lot of old characters, since I tend to get them killed more often than most. When I played Pendragon I got through 4 player knights before other people's 1st characters reached 45.
>>
>>44097034
I played a very old wizard in pathfinder. He was a transmuter who just buffed the party and hung out in the sidelines. He had outgrown the "caster supremacy" phase and though it might be cool to see some others shine.
>>
>>44098786
I tell a lie, my oldest character is like 78. I just haven't updated him in a while because he's a regular human who deserves his retirement. I should check if he's dead though.
>>
Yeah man, old knights, old wizards, old monks all make for great characters.
>>
>>44098681
I love it.
>>
Played a character that was dead then revived. Was around 70 years old physically but around 108 total. Acted like an out-of-date grandfather to the group.

Was a nice Scion game.

Yeah old dudes are always cool, but nobody thinks old ladies are cool.
>>
>>44098789
>He had outgrown the "caster supremacy" phase and though it might be cool to see some others shine.

Maybe you had. Your character had clearly internalized caster supremacy as a fact of life but had the tact not to flaunt it, and shepherded parties of disadvantaged classes around as a sort of condescending public service.
>>
>>44099055
The crone is a great concept.
>>
>>44099125
Nah, I played him like he believed the other characters where supposed to be the next generation of heroes and just wanted to guide them as the wise old man. Give them an edge he never had when he was an adventurer. The only time he ever cast offensive spells was when the rest of the party wasn't around. He shared all of his spells with the younger wizard in the party and doesn't really ask anything in return because he see's it as their story.

Say. That. Again.
>>
>>44097034
Yup. A lech of an old dude, couldn't talk at all, and believed that any opponent that couldn't be beaten by arrow to the eye could instead be solved by 60km ball of velociraptors.
He may have had a screw or two loose...

Yes, in a Three Musketeers game I played Monsieur Le Penitent, a Prussian who had been an agent of the Electors and total fucking beast in his prime; hardline Protestant, assassin skillset; "the Duke's pet monster" was how he was referred to.

Gets sent to France to carry out an assassination on someone in the Musketeers, but fails the mission - he has a vision of the Virgin Mary weeping over his intended target. This causes him to convert to Catholicism and give up his old life, joining the Musketeers out of the belief that they were somehow chosen by the Holy Mother. He was significantly older than most of the other characters, though below them in rank and social standing due to his recent recruitment, foreign birth and not-great French.

The twist? He had syphillis. Late stage neurosyphillis. The Virgin Mary was just a hallucination; when she manifested it was accompanied with tremors, "speaking in tounges" etc which was really just the disease ravaging him. Everyone knew it out of character but we played it straight, with people believing he was somehow touched by the divine, that his visions meant something (spoilers: they never fucking did).
>>
>>44097034
I played a senile old paladin once
He couldn't remember most of the tenets so he just wanted everyone to be good boys and girls
Even the monsters.
Especially the monsters.
Just because they were misshapen monstrosities made of actual solidified evil didn't mean that they couldn't be good kids.
And he referred to everything he met as a child.
The other party members, bandits, vampires, kings, and even a dragon at one point.
He insisted that they all call him Grandpa too.
>>
>>44097034
This picture makes me realize how much I miss Stargate.
>>
>>44098764

Anyone ever decide to hit that?
>>
>>44101180
Sometimes, but battleMILF was more turned on by smiting evil than any romance
Though there was that bit when she turned the tables on that incubus after he managed to charm her but what exactly happened during the fade to black was left unsaid other than it involving several smite rolls and that there was no more incubus after it was done
>>
It's hard to play an old character unless they've got the life experience to back it up. Otherwise it just looks like grandpa took up adventuring as a hobby in retirement
>>
>>44097034
I played a Terrisman in Mistborn. He was an ancient old slave who was basically the house slave to one of the other characters. But in secret he was a Feruchemist who could use metal to do things like store strength and speed etc as long as he had metal on his person to store it. (Feruchemy was also super illegal cause the slave Terrismen were the onyl ones who could do it, and to stop an uprising from happening they outlawed it)So I maxed out his feruchemy and made it so he stored not just strength and speed, but also health and memory and sight and pretty much everything I could in the piercings and microdermals he had hidden all over his body. In reality my character was in his early 30s and the peaks of physical awesome. But because he used the piercings to store everything which was perfect since was disguised as a little old house slave. I used a cane and everything. I was infultrating the houses so I could basically go super saiyan in our final fight and try to take down the lord so we could be free men again. Sadly never continued the campaign that far but I had had a fun time playing a little old man.
>>
>>44097034
Sam aged the best, and had the best show.
>>
>>44097034
I once played an elderly martial arts master who temporarily came out of retirement to help out a party of young upstart adventurers save the world and to make sure they didn't fuck up along the way. She was mostly inspired by Genkai from Yu Yu Hakusho, and my excuse for her starting at the same level as the young adventurers was that she forgot most of her moves and was slowly remembering them as the game went on.

Yeah, playing a Crusader from a very minor foreign noble family who at 14 was squired to a knight heading off as part of a vast anti-Infernal crusade.

That crusade lasted a decade, and ended up an ugly stalemate.

And another crusade.

The second crusade finally ends in a last spasm of tragedy and destruction and our squire is now 42, with most her life known life spent at war with the endless hells.

She's knighted, she's honored, her family is elevated and...

Welp, now what?

Now, we travel. We start the recovery process of endless nightmares and the shock of entirely new scenery and a gradual sublimation into the violence and novelty of the murderhobo.

Oh, and marriage, says the senpai so so discreetly, would be nice, too.
Find an eligible bachelor who's into scars and callouses.
Maybe grow your hair out, buy some dresses, learn a few of the latest courtly dances..?

Gods be damned.
>>
>>44097034

In a Gundam game, I played "Mas Macho," a 47-year old, overweight, bald, mustachio'd man of Spanish descent who is always chomping a cigar stub. Hi piloted a Zaku and liked to play pool.
>>
>>44100923
Wow, that made me sad. Must have been cool.
>>44097034
I played a 55 year old barbarian in a game that started at level 10, there was a divine mission that the Shaman insisted they send a champion to join, he convinced his tribe that it was suicide, got his son to take over as chief, and said goodbye to his 3rd wife, 9 kids, and 40 grandkids instead of sending some young buck to die. Really, he thought it was his last chance to improve his standing in the afterlife, as threats to the tribe's lands had long since ceased to be threats to his own survival, and while their heaven wasn't explicitly Valhalla, there was a pretty good benefits package for the violently slain in his religion.

He was pretty fatalistic, and a slightly reckless fighter, but I never felt like a fight was important enough to justify a rage until the BBEG fight, and it shocked the piss out of the party when it turned out I wasn't just a fighter. I found my sought after death in that fight, not before we won, but when my temp HP disappeared as my rage ended.
>>
My next character is going to be 47. I'm looking forward to pretending to be older and grumpier.
>>
>>44102202

It was pretty bleak but cool yeah. The climax of his storyline was his former protege Leopold kidnapping the damsel, after being employed by the Cardinal's men, and Le Penitent trying to talk him down; when Leopold refused and the duel began, Le Penitent ended it quickly (he was never a flashy duellist; the old man was a killer first and foremost).

Le Penitent deals his protege a blow that WILL kill him, but not immediately. A glass dagger in the lung, broken to spill its acidic contents, the last fragment of his Prussian days. Then he goes pure defence, giving the protege the last rites as he flails at him, attacking with his last breaths. As Leopolds strength fails at last, Le Penitent catches him and cradles him in his final moments, expecting one last hidden blade to end it in the final moments.

There was no final trick, no closure. In the end, repentance just gave him another body. The Virgin still wept. France still needed a monster. No rest for the wicked, old man.

I used to, back when I was just getting into the hobby, it was all about grizzled men in their 40s and 50s in gritty realistic games for realistic people.

Now I only play special snowflakes aged 16-25 with Anime styled character art and it feels so much better. I don't even care.
>>
Relatively old bloodrager (49)
Disappointed that his quarter of dragon doesn't give him longer lifespan. His allies are mostly older than him, although because they are of more long-lived species. He's pretty jealous, but hasn't expressed it too directly.
>>
>>44097034
technically yes i play a prewar ghoul named tom in a fallout game a friend put together. he was probably the sanest one there. he was the medic, cook, and demolitions expert. and his arch enemy was another PC named "Casino Jack" who was always drunk hated my character specifically and took any chance he could to sneak away from the party.
>>
>>44097034
Playing an old Jedi Master a la Obiwan Kenobi is fun. It's very melancholy when you have him talk about all his friends that are dead and gone. And how hopeless the prospect of returning the Jedi to the universe might be
>>
>>44097034
I have an 80 year old berzerker who has 16 clerics on his to kill list for preventing him from reaching Valhalla. Beyond that it's been a combination of lucky rolls and GM fuck ups that's kept him alive for about 60 in game years, he's the oldest berzerker in the setting, all the time in towns young zerkers come up to bask in his glory only to find an 8 ft 7 in tall old man who reeks of blood and alcohol, is very rude, can't read, or write, and just in general is waaaay different than the legends about him, really shakes them back into the real world to see him. Whenever he really talks all he says is that he can't wait to die and be able to drink until he vomits and still keep his coinpurse. Dude is a plethera of scars and wounds.
>>
>>44097034
I played an elderly mercenary (around 60, I think). Used subterfuge instead of running into the gunfire and played off the hotheaded young party members. It was really fun.

My favourite and easily my longest running character was an older woman, a mercenary fighter in late 30's - early to mid 40's (she wasn't sure exactly).

I'll openly admit she was a myriad of fantasy ideals for me.

Cynical, world weary, ruthless to a point. Spent all her coin in taverns and brothels, a mercenary to her bones. Had a vengeful streak a mile wide. Finger banged a sorceress to steal a magical map, and that wasn't even my idea. Shit was SO cash.

By the end of the campaign she was the Alderman of a township. People who spoke up against her had a tendency to disappear, but the town had never been so peaceful. I like to think they built a statue of her.
