ubiquitous aluminum chair.jpg

Okay. I have a bit of a weird one here.

This is the Emeco 1006. This is likely the single most ubiquitous chair in existence. Originally built by the Emeco for the US Navy in WW2, but they quickly began selling them as surplus to other government and private organizations. It became a designer item in the 1990s, but you'll still find it in just about any government institution somewhere. It's most famously found in prisons, but you can find them just about anywhere. They're in a lot of movies/TV shows, and a least a handful of games. Including Fallout 3/NV.

I own a set of five original Navy ones, and they're very good chairs. Light, durable, and surprisingly comfortable. They do get a little cold though, so wearing small shorts is not highly advisable.

If you're ever DMing a game and are describing a military/police setting, you can safely describe these chairs as being there.

I really like the brightly coloured guns this guy does.

They feel really uniquely cyberpunk/dystopian. In that they're obviously supposed to be used by some form of corporate or government police force who is simultaneously supposed to be able to kill at a moments notice, but be ubiquitous and non-threatening to the average person.

Elysium, it had pretty good concept art actually.

Also, the laser weapon might actually just be disposable or meant to only be used for one charge. So it doesn't actually have any way to replace it.

The name kinda implies it's some kind of "Break glass if emergency" weapon.
>>
>>44083581
If the laser weapon were disposable, why would they bother labeling the screws?

Also is it bad that what disappointed me most about Elysium was not seeing Jodie Foster as a more prominent villain?

It's pretty logical really. Your rifle is too long to effectively use in a trench, and your bayonet doesn't have a lot of reach, so you just go for the classic "stick with massive lump of metal introduced to the enemy's head at velocity" solution

For any actual modern take on things, we'd probably largely end up like this. Simple and somewhat basic in design to facilitate mass production (the ones here being churned out in a factory in China), all that's left really is probably to swap out the grip for rubber or plastic.

Making it look more modern/low SciFi, well, I guess we'll need a spray can of matte black for that.

>>44089373
>its a gladius

With the fuller and flat-ish hilt it's a lot closer to a large kindjal IMO. But I have a feeling whoever made it may not be all that well versed in swords, and the tacticool market may take better to Roman sounding things as well.

Wow. You aren't even a reasonable member of /k/ in this case.

Like seriously. Most of your complaints are either explicit or easy to figure out with a have a moments logically processing or understanding of some less common firearm designs.

>Not understanding shorter stocks for shouldering when armored/not having slenderman arms
>Not understanding inserting and locking a rotated drum mag
>Not having awareness that some rounds support highly curved magazines

Except the stocks are so fucking short you chicken wing like you're remembering the basics of KFC

There is literally nothing for the mag to latch onto. I didn't mention the fact that it'd be mechanically impossible to turn the rounds 90 fucking degrees when its feeds perpendicular to the barrel.

Third, no bullet except .22lr curves that much, let alone a rimless cartridge which is the only possible explanation since it's glaringly obvious that it's just a 10/22 magazine. And if you seriously think brass case ammunition will still be a thing in the future, you're an idiot.

And what are you defending? Mag works because, as said, it's basically a retarded PS90. Problem is that striker or hammer fired doesn't matter, he stripped out a huge chunk of what would be the action. And I guess it's okay to completely ignore the lack of a rear iron sight. And the fact that what you assume to be a front sight literally keeps the front of the mag down.

And yes, I know sabbots. Problem is that's not how they're designed nor work. It also completely ignores the fact that sabots were and still are complete and utter shit when compared to copper jacketed penetrators, like the special snowflake ammunition the p90 and fn57 is designed around.

And finally air burst is a buzzword when you don't understand the application or usage of it when your gun is fucking retarded ass all ungodly hell and would have your engineering license stripped from you would the design documents ever be leaked to another engineer or technician who doesn't have autism.

I picked the most glaringly obvious problems because, news fucking flash, they're the most glaringly obvious.

We live in the future, and we still use it.
>>
>>44092726
Except the military wants to replace all brass cased ammunition with polymer telescoped ammunition seeing as their LSAT project proved that you can have 556 ammo that's cheaper, 44% lighter and 40% smaller.

Meaning in a standard combat load, you're able to carry pretty much 40-50% more ammo which brings the standard combat load up to an average of 300. Heavy combat loads up to 450-500. Machine gunners up to 600 easily not counting the ammo everybody else carries.

Right now they're waiting on the 762 LSAT to make the switch and if that works, there will no doubt be a 9mm telescoped as well.

>There is literally nothing for the mag to latch onto. I didn't mention the fact that it'd be mechanically impossible to turn the rounds 90 fucking degrees when its feeds perpendicular to the barrel.
Nothing you can explicitly see, but that doesn't mean a catch of some kind isn't there. Also, what is FN-P90 of HK G-11?

>Third, no bullet except .22lr curves that much, let alone a rimless cartridge which is the only possible explanation since it's glaringly obvious that it's just a 10/22 magazine. And if you seriously think brass case ammunition will still be a thing in the future, you're an idiot.
Could be a round with angled walls, or caseless with angled primer to accommodate feeding needs. There are lot of things that could be going on with this.
>>
>>44092791
Calm your tits, Anon. My point is, we could have switched years ago (Kraut space magic yadda yadda), but didn't. Similarly, there are tons of weird sci-fi reason why we could still be using brass in the future. I mean, take something like Elysium, and it's because the entire planet turned into retarded future Mexico.

>And what are you defending? Mag works because, as said, it's ... the fact that what you assume to be a front sight literally keeps the front of the mag down.
"One apparently you don't need to aim considering the lack of irons." You have insufficient information for your claims. I'm not saying yes it was thought through, but with a reasonable amount of suspension of disbelieve and some marker dots for the rear and on those front hooks. Also, look at the sighting system on a Calico, or groove sights on pistols, or a bead on a shotgun. There are a lot of different ways you can aim a firearm. Arguments regarding the internals are hard to place either way, as it could be a super-light bolt with a lowered return spring (actually supported by the apparent charging handle) or a number of other explanations.

>And yes, I know sabbots. Problem ... like the special snowflake ammunition the p90 and fn57 is designed around.
Just pointing out that no, the round wouldn't blow up on you like was implied. And that there isn't anything in the cutaway that is "Not how they work." It might be impractical compared to some other options, but maybe that is solved by material sciences.

>And finally air burst is a buzzword when you don't understand the application or usage of it when your gun is fucking retarded ass all ungodly hell and would have your engineering license stripped from you would the design documents ever be leaked to another engineer or technician who doesn't have autism.
Stated as being for vehicle mounting and used by robots. Given those applications and that it would fill a similar role to current multi-shot grenade launchers (Oh, with airburst) that isn't really that big a deal.

>didn't even make a big deal about cooling shrouds on a low-ROF automatic GL
>>
>>44092726
>>44092791
There are a lot of logistical reasons for it, not to mention that brass casing is a primary form of heat dispersal in many small arms, so you would have to design around that. Not saying it can't be done, but at it's core that is a big change for a military to refit everything they have.

I've seen all of the stuff about weight comparisons, but I've not run across anything documenting independent trials about heat-related concerns.
>>
>>44089082
Can I summon the Dragonzord with that?
>>
>>44082970
My cooking school had those because they're food safe and you can plop them in a decarbonizer safely. Most uncomfortable chairs in the world after 2 hours though and not meant for people who are all legs.
>>
>>44092841
Oh I'll tuck my elbow, meanwhile have terrible control since my arm is pinned to my shoulder.

Second, mag is smooth. Smooth thing have not catch. Small word need because idiot. P90 also rests on top of the gun and has a way of securing the mag. G11 did the same except when you twisted that weird lever, it locked the mag in place and fed a round into the action.

Third, having a round that angled is bad. It doesn't accommodate feeding, it hinders it, having angled walls makes bigger mags, heavier mags, more expensive mags, more expensive rounds, bigger rounds and equates all together to a retarded artist with no sense of grounding in mechanical design or engineering.

>>44092845
Yes, roughly 140 years in the future, we still use AKs that somehow shoot bullets that would be impossible for it since they're literally just AK47s, have mini airbursts because the writers don't understand how concussive damage works, still use brass cased ammo at all even though it corrodes, cooks off, is heavy, far more expensive, far more difficult to manufacture, far more difficult to design around. Not to be an ass but brass is shit. Heat dispersal is sometimes brought up but the LSAT works around this brilliantly and manages to keep cooler than any other open bolt LMG on the market while also being just as reliable and nearly half the weight of its counterparts.

>>44092974
Where do you see irons? Why would you take a rifle, a gun meant to be aimed for precise shots, and remove the one thing that allows you to make them? Shotguns also have spread, it's not much but they also tend to have their own sights. And if you decide to go with a super light bolt, you suddenly run into the issue of having too high of a ROF. The location of the charging handle is pretty obviously the only way the artist could imagine there being a way of charging a round considering the bullpup config.
>>
>>44092705
Brass will be a thing till the end of time. Cheap and handloadable unlike caseless rounds, microfusion cells or what have you.
>>
>>44093535
Not talking about caseless and

>Not having caseless 3D printer
>Just pour chem mixture, shit out 200 rounds of ammo, shove bullets in
>2115

This is the future that is 99.999% secure seeing as that's what DARPA wants to achieve with 99.999% certainty. Eventually once 3D printers become advanced enough where you're able to print out rounds, the industry for reloading will die, especially seeing as we're heading towards a Printer based society and manufacturing industry. From 3D printed buildings, to 3D printed food, to 3D printed guns, to 3D printed organs, to 3D printed whatever.

>Not talking about caseless
>And if you seriously think brass case ammunition will still be a thing in the future, you're an idiot.
Okay then what would they use instead of cased ammunition? Maybe, I dunno, caseless rounds?

As long as chemical propellants are still a thing bullet casings will be around until we hit mass effect or switch to plasma or something. Odds are we just won't use brass and instead some other material that is lighter/stronger/more reusable/sinks more heat. Hand-loadable casings with built-in reusable electric primers would be neat.

>especially seeing as we're heading towards a Printer based society and manufacturing industry
Maybe in a couple thousand years when 3D printing hits star trek replicator tier and you can assemble things out of atoms.
>>
>>44093965
Uhhh... The polymer telescoped ammunition that has been developed in the LSAT project, that was mentioned twice over.
>>44093128
>>44092791
Which take up less space, are far lighter, by about 14% and 40% respectively, and when questioned about cost, had projected costs being lower than regular brass case seeing as you can put out hundreds of feet of polymer tubing far quicker than you can anneal brash or steel, for a far lower price point since the price of brass has been rising.

And with caseless being lighter and having a 40% decrease in volume, the future will be caseless once heat resistant chemicals become more available as it has the potential ability of completely eliminating the logistics behind shipping ammo and could make Carriers mobile centers that require minimal restocking for infantry.

Need 556 and 762? Fire up the 3D printer and print out a shit ton. Don't need to worry about guns firing either because chances are, you'll be able to swap out the caliber with the change of a barrel and mag, instead of needing another gun for logistics to ship, along with mags and repair parts.

And considering that right now, we 3d print organs, 3d printed houses are not just a proof of concept but a heavily invested one now that its been proven you can easily build fuckstrong houses with them, with economic 3D printers being in the easy 500 to 800 dollar range depending on the size you want, with stronger materials being developed, some fiberglass impregnated resins and polymers being as strong as aluminum while others not quite as strong but don't require fiberglass and rather use aluminum dust, printers that can print multiple polymers one after the other, some using recycled plastic, some using beads, and the dozens of other innovations that include printing electronics and circuitry, food that DARPA has a working model of, along with everything else...

Yeah, it's going to be in the next 50 years with the military spearheading the campaign.

The fuck you talking about retard?

Houses are being 3D printed on massive industrial sized printers using concrete mixtures.

DARPA is funding a program to 3D print food using various pastes.

You can already 3D print a receiver, but many parts on a gun still require metal for something long lasting. But you can now build a gun from scratch.

Organs ARE being 3D printed using stem cells.

Are you just some religious fundamentalist retard who can't into news? This past year has been chock full of shit for 3D printing. From better methods of printing metal to actually metal and plastic printing full guns, on metal minus barrel and springs, to organs to houses.
>>
>>44095470
Doesn't have to be plastix anymore. You can buy metal infused stuff then plop it in a furnace you made from an old garbage can to solidify it all. Even robust enough to make molds and shit using it.
>>
>>44095597
You mean aluminide? The aluminum impregnated plastic? Or just aluminum cans because that shit is fucking strong.

Why not just make a 3D model, make a wax model, cover it in clay and then make your thing?

Is that what you mean?
>>
>>44095750
You'd have to make a model using material that won't kill the wax then make a blank using the mold out of a material that won't kill the mold but keeps the detail then use that blank to make a stronger mold to make a final blank. Use the metal infused one and pop it in a furnace and you got a final product. Use it as a blank to make mold for a stronger final product. Cuts out alot of steps.

You don't even need the 2x4...just two tubes that can fit in one another, and a fixed firing pin. Slam fire.

Eh, normally I imagine that if someone's going to have a sword in modern times, it would be a curved cutting sword rather than a straight sword. Not much in the way of armor plates to try and pierce through, and if there is armor it's probably too tough to stab through in the first place. Now, as for the blade material, I imagine some kind of semi-flexible carbon fiber bullshit could be handwaved for most settings. And it would probably be matte black or grey regardless of what it's made of, since shiny things really don't go together well with modern combat.

so... are we gonna have a new thread of items or what?
>>
>>44102374
I guess.
Still, I like how they look, especially for a post-apoc setting.
I kind of want to make a thread wholly dedicated to this kind of improvised stuff/redneck engineering, I can't get enough of it.
>>
>>44102473
well, I have quite a few guns left to post if you want to make a thread. I love this shit as well and would be happy to dump wht I have. I also have some mad-max level cars and stuff that I can post.
>>
>>44092378
I make junk weapons as a hobby, but to my absolute horror they are being treated as legitimate art pieces and now I have to enter them in a show and pretend they're not just weird bullshit. I know nothing I make is good, it's really more a personal exercise of "how good can I make something with substandard tools/materials/skills".
I actually do a lot of the building "live" in threads on that other chan that gets spam filtered here if you type it out.

Also shit, didn't notice image limit. nevermind then. Even posting this would be a waste but not posting it after wasting an entire minute typing would be a greater waste.

That shotgun is retarded though. If a human uses it, it's way too front-heavy. If a robot uses it, they're better off using some kind of external feed.

8/10 aesthetics would watch the movie it's in.

>>44102871
Not to go all /k/ or anything, but as that loses large size of the mag, doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of the p90 (which I've been lead to believe is to be light and carry a lot of ammo in its mag?)
