So, I've been invited to a silly game and I've decided to make a Pathfinder Magical Girl using the Aegis class, since summoning a psychic suit seems like a great basis for magical girl transformation shenanigans.

However, looking into it, how reliant will I be, as an Aegis, on putting shit together on the fly? Looking at the rules for how customizations work, it seems like I'll be rebuilding a significant chunk of my character every fight. Is it as confusing as it seems, or are there tricks to it?

I'm also going to be using some of the material from the Path of War 2 googledocs, specifically the Aegis customizations which grant Maneuver Progression. My question is, how does this interact with the Aegis's ability to chop and change customisations all the time? Can I change my maneuvers known almost as easily as I can change my maneuvers readied? Can I swap out entire Disciplines on the fly? I get that it's playtesting content, but I'm trying to figure out the intent behind it, and if I'll be gimping myself by mostly sticking with a standard setup and tweaking the details, like speccing into energy resistance if an opponent has elemental attacks and so on.
>>
>>44081179
Do you think we'll ever get a playable ghost PC option, /pfg/?

So at level 19, you can shoot a blast dealing 10d6 (*1.5 if you empower it) plus an extra 22d6 to 48d6 untyped damage, +another 6d6 if you overchannel, -2d6 to empower it, or -4d6 to maximize it (if you took those metapsionics). 300 damage +10d6*1.5 seems pretty good to me, even if it's not winning the DPR olympics, the average CR 20 monster has 370 hit points.

And don't forget that even if this is Fort, you're Con-SAD. You're gonna be able to afford as much Constitution as you want, and Elemental Overflow /also/ buffs Con (and stays up for a round after cashing out your burn, so you can keep getting its benefits most of the time).

Any way to get Guided Hand (Use Wisdom instead of Str or Dex for deities favored weapon) as an Inquisitor with minimal dipping? (It requires Channel Energy, Channel Smite, and proficiency with favored weapon).

Alright, fair enough. I'm the person who mentioned the sorc fireball damage, but I wasn't really comparing it to anything. that all actually sounds pretty decent.
>>
>>44081253
Have a character sheet for each suit you want to wear and no suit. You can only change customizations with a long process of like 8 hours, and all your customizations apply to all your astral suits (if possible). You'd have to use uses of Reconfigure to change anything in combat.
>>
>>44081315
Is Versatile Training actually worth it over something like Armed Bravery? Are you actually going to use both Bluff and Survival? You could probably take ranks out of Linguistics and use them for Bluff instead.

But there's also spending PP for extra Customisations, and the Initiator version allows you to swap out one Customisation per 4 levels as a full round action, along with regaining maneuvers. Still, from the sound of it it's not as crazy as I feared, thank you.

Is there a good way to scale up Swallow Whole for a PC?
>>
>>44081179
If anything losses me off about Ghorans, it's the face.
If it's going to be made of petals, why a face at all and not just a flower? These weird half-faces look terrible.
>>
>>44081512
Can't synthesist summoners get a hold of swallow whole for themselves? I remember running around with a basic eidolon that ate trolls, and synthesist can do anything the basic eidolon does.
>>
I'm running a game of Pathfinder and I have a new player coming in who wants to play a Gunslinger. I don't have problems allowing guns, but I've never had them involved in a game I've been in before so I'm not that familiar with them. I know the general opinion is that they're bad, but the player is very set on the idea of playing one and I'm not going to try and talk him out of it. What I'd like to know is what level of advanced firearms is best to allow. Should I just go all the way up to modern firearms?
>>
>>44081541
Are you cool with Path of War? Are /they/ cool with Path of War? I'd go with the Gunsmoke Mystic if yes to either, instead of the Gunslinger.
>>
>>44081530
No clue, really.
>>
>>44081541
Remove misfires and attacking touch AC in the first range increment and a lot of guns' badness goes away (though reloading and being expensive as hell still happens to be a problem, they're in roughly the same place but with less problems)
>>
>>44081535
>>44081576
I ask because I'm making a race trait for tieflings that gives them large size, swallow whole, and potentially something else.
>>
>>44081565
I am, but they aren't. They're a new player in general, so even though I allow some 3PP stuff they say they want to stick with Paizo material for now while they're learning.
>>
>>44081253
Oh no, not to worry!

Most of your suit is going to be on defaults. Reason for this is that you use the Aegis System to fill out all sorts of holes, etc that would be much more expensive or harder to get in other ways.

Notably, stuff like darkvision if your race didn't have it. Flight at character level 5*. Powerful Build, later Augmented Weaponry (and a little later still instead use an essence pool + Armory of the Conqueror shape customization), and so on.

You'll quickly find a core that uses up much of your Custom points. Do try to wear real armor later on, the aegis one doesn't scale that well.

As far as customizations go and switching around, Reconfigure doesn't get used TOO much, but it can be handy as fuck in emergencies. You usually shouldn't need it, but rather, you'll know when it's time.

The Initiator Soul is 1pt for SO MUCH GOODNESS. Not only can you switch things on the fly (be careful: if aegis-learned maneuvers/disciplines are deselected, like any other prerequisites anything you built off of those WILL go offline until you reactivate them properly!) but you can do temporary reconfigures with just an action cost, as your maneuver refresh action!

You CAN swap things out on the fly but since that deactivates things and shit needs to be re-readied, it's not usually a good idea in battle.

tldr: You'll build a solid core of "all the time" abilities, customizations, veils, maneuvers and whatnot. You CAN reconfigure and rebuild, not MUST. It's a bonus or target/location prep, not a requirement!

>*Aegis 5 or 3+Student of the Astral Suit. Which you NEVER NOT TAKE unless flat out Aegis 20, but you'll probably want to multiclass at least a little

I've taken the leadership feat and have decided to bring in an illusionist wizard as my cohort. The party has several casters of divine and arcane, of 2/3s and full, but no actual full arcane casters yet. What schools should he oppose? Enchantment is out for flavor reasons, or else I'd have probably already picked it. So far I'm leaning towards necromancy and abjuration. He won't be helping the party out in combat very much, aside from indirectly by making scrolls on the cheap for the party. Am I going to be missing out on much by taking those as my opposed schools?

Also, I haven't decided what to do with his latest (9th level) feat yet, so I could have him take Opposition Research to get rid of one of his opposed schools. So, I could do that, if there's nothing better to do with his feat. Again, he's not really going to be directly involved in combats.

One of my players is playing a Construct.
Meaning that if his character ever hits 0 HP, it instantly and irreversibly dies forever.
I want to come up with a houserule that'll help with that.
Right now I'm thinking that rather than be permanently forever-destroyed he just collapses into a pile of shit, and if that pile of scrap is brought to someone proficient with the construction and repair of constructs, he could be "resurrected" for a price.
However, there is surely a good reason constructs are instantly forever-destroyed, right? Could you guys share some thoughts on this?

I am going to tell you how to make a transforming hero in 3.P.

>Apply the Petitioner template to an intelligent magic item (it's a Construct), giving it a CR of 1 and thus making it playable as a monster PC. Then take a level in any class. It doesn't matter which, though something based on mental actions is probably best.
>At lv1 take the Human Heritage feat from the 3.5 splat Races of Destiny, causing you to count as a human. At lv3 take the Racial Heritage feat, which allows a human to count as one other humanoid race. Choose blue.
>Take 8 levels in aegis, using the blue's Annihilator racial archetype from UPsi (who becomes Medium while in their astral suit). Pick up the Quick Suit and Student of the Astral Suit feats along the way, and select Extra Passenger as a customization.

You now have a magic belt, wristband, gemstone, etc. that can transform into a suit of Medium armor and equip itself to you as a free action.

Then you have the dozens of followers.

Um, no, one of the criteria for her redemption is to basically have true love with a good-aligned mortal and have that love returned.

Not to mention
>She longs for the day she might meet someone with whom she can experience real love. The man or woman to connects with her as a person and a friend could develop a relationship with her that's as strong and enduring as any the wounded world has ever known.

Of all the Paizo waifus, she's probably one of the least open to polyamory.
>>
>>44083670
She's finding true love as a path to redemption. Once she's fully redeemed and is basically Desna-lite polyamory should be on the table. It's not like Desna would disapprove. Heck, as flighty and hard to entertain as she is it'd probably be more fitting.

Why haven't we gotten a reformed fiend that isn't a succubus? They have a lot of potential for both motivations, mindsets, and relations with both the party and other NPCs, but Paizo has only given us "succubus who desires true love" and "succubus who desires to become an Montreal Lord for no real reason".
Nocticula trying to become a Montreal Lord isn't even all that useful of a move AP wise since she won't be able to break Pazuzu's Staff.

Make them aware that the upcoming floor of a room is a partially-real illusion. Make will saves to believe in it, else fall into some shallow water and face the monstrous crabs waiting below. Since not everyone will make it, people who successfully believe in it can make it to a crank in the wall (or multiple cranks) that will tighen the chains on the pincers, tying the arms down so that the people who fell can climb up the ladder at the exit.

Free excellent dungeon room that flexes will saves, an overlarge party can all contribute to, and shows off CMB; you're welcome.

Unless you think strong and enduring relationship can't have sex with anyone outside of the relationship then nothing in that excludes polyamory.

Monogamy would totally be in the cards but if, say, you're some air headed Desnan prodigy who romances her and you go "hey let's ask that paladin for a threesome" or whatever then she's not going to turn it down because she wuvs you the most, atleast not inherently.

There's nothing about a Desnan worshipper or about finding one person you love the most that makes you monogamous, especially in Paizoland.

Building off of what >>44081629 said, as I'm currently playing an Aegis with Initiator's Soul, the best and I mean absolute best feat you can acquire for that customization is Weapon Group Adaptation.

Any weapon you select with it will apply to /every/ discipline you use. It seems kind of silly, but if you find yourself using a discipline a bunch and pick up Discipline Focus, you'll be using your favorite weapon with that +2 damage and +2 to DCs from the maneuvers, even at 12th+.

Seriously, it's good shit. Aegis is an awesome class, even if it can't solve every problem in existence. I love it, and my group is only tired of me saying "but AEGIS" whenever they bring up a soft spot in their own class.
>>
>>44083940
Just use the spell creation template. It's literally in the rules and blast spells have the easiest rules to adhere to so that you're not being particularly unfair.
>>
>>44083953
Jubilex has Sloth and Nocticula's fuckboy brother has Lust, so if we're going with the setting being Golarion they should probably be the Demon Lords associated with those sins.

My word is my bond. When I give my word formally, I defend my oath to my death. Traps lie in idle banter or thoughtless talk, and so I watch my tongue.
I am at all times truthful, honorable, and forthright, but my allegiance is to my people. I will do what is necessary to serve them, including misleading others if need be.
I respect the forge, and never sully it with half-hearted work. My creations reflect the depth of my faith, and I will not allow flaws save in direst need.
Against my people’s enemies, I will show no mercy. I will not allow their surrender, except when strategy warrants. I will defeat them, yet even in the direst struggle, I will act in a way that brings honor to Torag.

I'm trying to build one of these maximum power full-bullshit divination wizards, mainly to prove some points, but I want to start with a believable starting point.

for example: that build uses sacred geometry, which is just fucking out if your DM has two braincells to rub together. Also things like simulacrum wish for the +5 to every stat are just not allowed.

Here are the constraints I currently have:
>20PB, non-autistic mode. 19 is highest attribute after point buy, nothing below an 8, not two things below 10.
>Standard wealth by level. No crafting shenanigans. No blood money, no false focus, etc.
>level 12 build. RAWbullshit-dm-can't-avoid/handwave-has-to-house-rule really comes online at level 13 with create demiplane, simulacrum, and control weather
>actually fucking pay for spells, and actually list what spells you have prepared for "an average adventuring day". No quantum state spell list allowed.

Any other constraints I should add to the list?

>>44084532
How did your foray into the gaming den go?
>>
>>44084723
It is not, because it says "increases by" and not "increases to". paizo copyeditors are shit, that's why medium got tombstoned to make room for more psychic spells.
>>
>>44084723
Yeah. I'm guessing they didn't want it to be ambiguous that you're adding your tier to your Improved Initiative, rather than replacing, but the word "increases" does that.

Like I said, that's poorly written but the infinity interpretation doesn't work because you'd be infinitely redipping on the same bonus from the same source.

Blood Money, Fabricate, and any number of spell that can raise your strength and you've got infinite money. It might take a year or so but a Wizard could easily get those +5s to stats. Your GM would have to ban Blood Money, too, which isn't totally unreasonable but if you're gonna keep applying restraints to the class then you're missing the point of the tiers.

Does this seem like a good character build?

Inquisitor X/Cleric 1/Monk 1

Level 1: Level in Cleric with the Crusader Archetype, use starting feat for Channel Smite and Human bonus feat to get Guided hand (I would have WIS capped) Not sure what Domain I would want, open to suggestions for a cooking Character. Would also take Wisdom in Flesh to get Disable Device and add my WIS mod to.
Level 2: Level in Monk for WIS to AC
Level 3+: Levels in Inquisitor with Infiltrator Archetype and the Conversion inquisition.

If I have everything right I should be getting WIS for attack rolls, Intimidate, Disable Device, and AC. Then get WIS x2 for Bluff, and Diplomacy.Next level I would get WIS to initiative as well. Is this TOO cheesy or does it seem like a cool concept for a very strict Chef (Think Gordon Ramsay)
>>
>>44084849

kinda? The low level buffs are great and fine, especially the self buffs. divine favor is amazing. mirror image is bullshit, etc...etc.

But often a kick ass martial who can cast mirror image is better than a full on gish who can sorta cast and sorta brawl. You ether can out-cast the wizard or you can't, and you ether can out-murder the tarrask or you can't. If you are just "ok" at both then you won't spend your actions well.

Level 20 session.

Cleric chick of Desna, focused on battlefield control and planar locking. Bad shit can't enter, bad shit can't leave.

I'm a dwarven fire druid blaster (it works somehow, don't question it). Walk around with an Assassin Vine army that grows from a vineyard in a portable hole in my backpack. Wrap people up, ignite the vines, mechanically equivalent to Fire Spin.

There's a Lich that's been raising serial killers as a means of accelerating his stockpiles. Because of him, we end up fighting Big Bads from months ago all over again with Undead powers. Shit gets weird fast, so we track it down.

We track down his dank cave, I terraform the entire cave with brush, something I've managed to do with an army of plants, fertilizer, and some custom alchemical power components for Entangle.

I'm the only one who can sneak in and scout it out. We don't have a Rogue, but I've got Stonecunning and the highest perception and stealth.

Baddies show up on the outside after I've flooded the place with vines, grass, and saplings. I have to run in quickly. Before I hop into my bushes, she gives me a kiss and says "Good luck". The Dragon Disciple fails a Spellcraft check and we all laugh at him.

I get into the heart of the chamber where he's sitting smugly on his throne. Everyone's still fighting above, but it's only been like three rounds to get there. I spot the thing the Lich is holding: a Crystal Ball. I'm on it.

Legit just stands up, unaffected by the vines trying to pin him and says "Kill". I fail a Spellcraft check, but I'm not an idiot. I've got exactly 100 HP by the time I get down here and absolutely nothing's happened to me.

She winks at me after the Lich's turn ends.
>>
>>44085039

why are they even fighting in the first place? aren't metallic dragons good? is this one of those Baby With The Bathwater scenarios like SKR writes about?
>>
>>44085488
That's not the entirety of my statement you idiot.

The Dragon automatically wins 45% of the fights, period. No contest. Unless you arbitrary start the fight at 370 feet away (I'm assuming your typical arena setup where they're like 100 feet from each other).

The Dragon also has a greater than 5% chance to win initiative (I believe the Solar wins 65% of the initiatives on average?). Basically, whatever percentage the Solar wins from initiative, it loses nearly half of those fights anyhow due to Frightful Presence. That amount that he is now winning is less than 50%.
>>
>>44085535
Who wins in a fight? CL20 sorcerer or CL20 wizard?
It depends on the DM and the tactics used. THe fight won't last a full round though.

>>
>>44085552
Trick question. The rogue steals the Wizard's Arcane Bond and UMD's it to cast a free spell from the Wizard's spellbook and kills them both.

Then, the Wizard gains the initiative.
>>
>>44085560
Because it's a thought experiment and most 1 on 1 fights would happen at an arena like starting distance. I assume you'd just start the fight such that either combatant can reach the other in one move action, or atleast a charge. If we start like 400 feet away the Solar can't even charge the Dragon.

>>44085552
Whoever wins initiative, assuming no prep from either. The guy who wins initiative jsut casts a no save and suck spell (like euphoric tranquility or Time Stop) that lets him prepare an unwinnable situation for the loser of initiative.
>>
>>44085588
Can't steal and UMD an item in the same turn, both would take a standard action.

Steal is a combat maneuver, which is a standard action.
>>
>>44085636
Well it's not relevant in a fight between spell casters but that seems like a reasonable starting distance to me.

If you want to start further out then that then where do you stop it? Charging distance seems like as good a metric as any. If you want to get the Solar out of the Dragon's Presence range then why don't we get the Dragon out of the Solar's casting range? Which arbitrary metric of starting distance do you want that isn't based on the creatures' movespeeds?

>If the wearer [of a mnemonic vest] is a spontaneous caster, once per day she may use a spell slot to cast a spell from a written source (such as a scroll or spell book) as if she knew that spell. The spell must be on her spell list, the same spell level or lower than the expended spell slot, and the same type of spell (arcane or divine) as the spell slot expended. The caster must also understand the written source (such as using Spellcraft or read magic) and be carrying it. Activating the robe is not an action, but casting the spell otherwise works as normal, including casting time, providing components or foci, and so on. Using a mnemonic vestment's properties does not consume the written source.

How do I perform team attacks with my best bro?
>>

My personal favourite setup is basically any initiator with Hunter on the other side. The reason for this is simple; When people look at the Hunter class, what they see is a martial character. They see an animal companion. And that's about it.

However, consider the extremely potent effects of utilizing maneuvers alongside those teamwork feats that you get for free, and get a creature that operates directly as a teamwork buddy for you. Teamwork feats are actually quite powerful if used properly, but are underwhelming due to A) both people in the team needing to take the feat, and B) needing to be in a position where you can make use of the feat. The Hunter bypasses both of these problems. Additionally, due to the fact that Hunters get all the druids spells level 1-6 and every single Ranger spell (often much earlier on than said spell was intended to be used), you have a plethora of buffs for both your companion and yourself to spam before combat, potentially making you much more dangerous than you have any right to be.

You also get the second best number of skills in the game (6+Int) from Hunter, as icing on the cake. that could work remarkably well with, say, a Warder. Since Hunter relies on Wisdom for its spellcasting, the obvious choice is to go for either Mystic or Stalker on the other side, but since you'd mainly be using its buffs to supplement your initiating and your pet, you don't need a ton of wisdom, allowing you to essentially leave it aside for later buffing with magic items and such, so you have basically everything as an option.

though, I will admit, a Gunsmoke Mystic working with a baying companion sounds amazing. I need to do that at some point.

>Party is facing a magic rhinoceros trio
>I secretly add an extra rhino that uses stealth to move around the party, come up behind them, and attack them with its horn plus sneak attack damage
>Because it's a Spynoceros

I think the players are justified in hating me sometimes.

I've been having a pretty good go at team attacks with Hunting Party from Golden Lion.

(Also, picking up Guard's Oath from Eternal Guardian to make sure that my opponent has to either face me head on, or lay down arms and try to flee, has been an excellent choice.)

Warlord focusing on Golden Lion/Solar Wind.

Take Cavalied Order of the Dragon on your other side, Castellan archetype if you don't want a mount. Jump into Golden Liegionnaire if you can to bump up aid another bonuses.

Buff dudes and stay at range with Warlord, then hand out teamwork feats like candy and use a bunch of aid another stuff (like Covering Fire) to buff your party.

Ratfolk have a racial feat for that.
>>

Sweet, where can I find it? Doesn't seem to be in ARG.

That one teamwork feat from Distant Shores that involves being gay. Bonded Mind.

>Last guy to make a character for session this sunday
>Party is 2 melees and a supportive (read: intentionally self-gimping) wizard
>Get a feeling so complicated
The good person within me is telling me to play a healbot divine caster so everyone can have fun and we won't have to rely on the wizard's UMD and conveniently placed wands of cure wounds
But every other part of me says: go hog wild
This is the first time the GM is allowing Psionics and I want to do some fuckin' rad shit, but...
>>
Are there any other time-control things I can do using DSP material other than riven hourglass?
I have a huge boner for chronomancy.
We're running spheres too but the time sphere is just some gay slow/speed buff shit
>>
>>44086323
Play a Vitalist; you can be a psionic healbot that takes the "bot" out of it and replaces it with "badass".
>>
>>44086323
vitalist lets you have not-quite-both at once. expanded knowledge at level 3 gets you some sweet cool 1st level power for offense (tip: they can augment well) and you're not half bad at patching people up (or buffing them to hell in advance)
>>
>>44086323

I feel like it should be mentioned that relying on UMD and Wands of Cure Light Wounds is perfectly acceptable. Those things are dirt cheap. If you're just looking for healing it's probably better to do that than to actually build a character for it.

Hey guys, what are the new sub disciplines in DSPs new "Focused Disciplines" book?

Also why does it have "one for each of the six disciplines" when there are seven disciplines?
>>
>>44086513
athanatism doesn't count, duh.
>>
What are some classes that can go into a super mode where they absolutely shit on everything for a little while?
I'm talking like barbarian rage but concentrated into a couple turns.

You can have a look at them yourself here:

https://www.sendspace.com/file/iik823

One of them, Telepathy (Mystique), has a rather odd ability:
>Recall Another’s (Su): Starting at 2nd level, you can grab ahold of other people’s memories. As a standard action while you’re psionically focused, you may make a Sense Motive check. One intelligent creature within 30 feet of your choice must then make a Will save. If they succeed, they may not be affected by this ability for the next 24 hours. If they fail, you gain all of their memories from the past 5 hours, plus one hour for every point by which they fail the Will save. This is a mind-affecting effect.

What is the Sense Motive check for? Is the target aware of this effect on a successful saving throw, seeing how this is not a psionic power?
>>
>>44086887
it's like a puzzle where one of the pieces has its nibs cut off
there's no clause saying all psion class features have a save DC of 10 + 1/2 psion level + Int
>>
>>44086908

That is another good point as well. There is no saving throw DC listed.
>>
Is it wrong of me to want to switch characters like 4 sessions in just because I feel like my current character doesn't fit the campaign well?
>>
>>44086928
it's almost like they intended for the save DC to be your Sense Motive check but forgot to say it (because the playtest for this got no publicity due to PoW)
>>
>>44087007

By RAW, this is not affected by a Ring of Mind Shielding, and there is no indication to the target on a successful saving throw. It is also very easy to raise a skill bonus.

A telepath (mystique) could stroll around gathering the memories of just about anyone at 2nd-level, at-will.

So all of this talk about reformed succubutts makes me kind of want to play a tiefling refluffed as a succubus who got redeemed so hard it lost most of its racial features and is now trying to make sense of this new scary world.

Dumb y/n?

which is handy until memory modification comes into play. idunno, man. I guess the answer is to prevent more disasters like this by watching DSP's playtest schedule.

Seems legit to me, senpai.

Does anyone know of the feat that lets you take knowledge skills for outside your class? Heres my problem. Im a bloodrager and I want to take the feat to gain knowledge religion into a prestige class.

Requesting Gunsmoke Mystic build. PoW (duh), SoP, and other third party allowed within reason.

Just fuck me up, I want to make someone at the table laugh or cry or both. Zero character ideas on my end = no complaints when I play whatever build you guys want.
