What they do allow for is hitting your opponent in the head with a force that would run a high risk of breaking your hand into pieces.

While it doesn't directly make the punch more powerful it lets you throw a harder punch at the skull.

Look, all this is simply an argument over the language of your sentence.

When you say that you make a punch MORE powerful, you are saying that the force of the punch is increased and/or multiplied greater than what the athlete could physically put out i.e. enhancing the boxer's strength.

What you actually mean is that the gloves remove mental limitations the boxer has by creating an illusion of safety, allowing him to throw punches within his physical capability, but at a greater force than he hitherto felt safe enough to throw at.

In essence, what you meant could have been expressed in the sentence that you wrote, but in substance, I do not think most people would have understood your point without further clarification.

I know its late but fatalities in boxing only became a semi common thing after gloves came into use. If you got into a street fight in some crazy world where you had boxing gloves on at the time and the other guy didnt and didnt want to grapple you you would have an advantage.
