You need something good in the earlier turns to help you build up. I recommend instead of doing straight angel you do Angel/Spirit and use the ghosties for some chumpy 1/1 flyers early game.

If Avacyn's Pilgrim is off limits, then run Search for Tomorrow instead. I have no idea if Aether Vial is right for this deck, but once it's on 4 or 5 it could be fun. The deck is Modern legal, but if you're playing real casual, then you could run Swords to Plowshares instead of Path.
