So pure aug fist fighter ? Huh, I'd like to try that out. Since the character will be very pretty I might as well have them surgery rather than natural beauty, showing that she's all about upgrades and implants.

Any specs I should look into if I want to go purely for kicking rather than punching ?

If it's a Barrens "forced into doll-ing" parlor, free the girls and burn down the parlor. Proceed to be hunted by the Yakuza. Worth it for the bonus karma for hooding.

Failing that, just slot a BTL of my waifu and it'll be more fun

The real danger of BTL is that since it taps directly into those parts of your brain and is so vivid, that real life seems dull and shitty and unreal by comparison.

You might want to retract that "unreal" part. BTL has a long way to go towards inception levels of fantasy. The dry life is real, just unimaginably shitty.

I once had the team face try to seduce a corp secretary. He rolled amazingly well got her on a date and got the info. Then when he tried to break it off she seduced him, he glitched on his roll.

Looking to run a campaign, never really played nor have my players. They're not going to bother to read the rules. And in all likelihood would ask me to make their characters for them...

I'm going to do it in roll20 where I can make a macro for everything, but anyone know any good reference sheets for various common rolls.

Also been having some trouble with getting the initiative tracker working properly via macro in roll20 any protips there? Not a huge deal if not, found a good excel sheet which can track it well.

Related question: How much do you think a personalized bunraku doll program costs?

I want to have an NPC who is deep in debt with the Yaks because every evening he buys a puppet to share supper with him

Go to OP, open pastebin, take out the things labeled 'cheat sheets and reference guides'.

Also, if they don't read the rules before the campaign, it's going to go very poorly; SR is a clunky game and they should at least be familiar with the basics of their characters.

A personalized option for a program costs 1kNy (simsense option, unrated), though that's intended for skillsoft.
From what I've read in previous editions, personalized BTLs are highly addictive; addictiveness option is 1kNy per rating and that adds to addiction rating of the base program.
(see Unwired for this stuff)

Now, we need a base cost. Sim Dreams and Nightmares has a handy table, see pic.

>>43879131
>Also, if they don't read the rules before the campaign, it's going to go very poorly; SR is a clunky game and they should at least be familiar with the basics of their characters.

Our first three games we managed to avoid combat by doing tons of legwork and planning. When we ended up actually getting into a fight it took 4 hours.

Get your players to read atleast their fucking sections.

SR GM on roll20 here. I find macros to be worth more trouble than the time they save. It's easier to add initiative manually. Dice macros exist for shadowrun on roll20, but I never used them, cause I heard they suck a little.

If you know how to make dice macros, making good ones on your own won't take long at all.

So in the last thread people talked about housing. While the overall population may be smaller due to various issues, remember that a large amount of the population is SINless, and typically doesn't have real housing.

Also, while urban sprawl may be huge in areas like Seattle and Atlanta, there's lots of it also used for manufacturing and industry. Lots of D and E Zones are used for industry in addition to cheap housing. I imagine quite a lot is owned by various corporations (anything from small ones to AAA megas) and thus only leased out to their own corpdrones, or only part of it is leased out to the public with the rest reserved.

Not to mention other parts of land are simply zoned out for future office buildings, testing grounds, storage, etc.

It's why arcologies are popular with those that can afford to build them. In a fairly compact space you have living and working quarters, keeping your workers in a small box.

What would a spirit do if it liked you (after you'd run out of services)? Would they just stick around as a free spirit or let you bind them or just give you their formula?
>>
>>43883188
Depends on the spirit, but a reasonable response would be to probably offer a favor or two, with a caveat that if they don't like what they're being asked to do, you can go fuck yourself. What qualifies as "icky," in regards to favors probably varies from spirit to spirit.

Hey, SRG.
I'm a first-time player looking to get into the system, but I'm running low on inspiration and even lower on rules understanding.

How does a character like this sound?

>Pennin Taylor
>Street Name: Magic Man

>Grew up with a vast appreciation for stage magicians, sleight of hand, and pyrotechnics
>Fuck yeah awakened as a mage

...now what? I'm not sure where to go with a character like this, other than the painfully obvious route. I'm supposed to be slotting in as the main damage dealer for the party. How should I be distributing attributes and skill points?
>>
>>43885390
It's vital that you decide on his education now. Did he actually go to Magic University? Learn on the street? Hell, become an apprentice to another type like him (it's not the most uncommon backstory, I have to admit). To decide on that you could/should decide on his family. Rich or poor? Corpers, normmal people or SINless?
>>
>>43885390
>>43885465
I'll proceed. For attributes you'll just need Willpower and your Drain Attribute maxed, then probably some Body (if you need to overcast and well, for general not dying, especially since you go combat mage) and then what all runners need, Intuition and Reaction.
As for skills, you should think about going rather spirit-heavy. A mage is imho wasted as a damage dealer, if you go combat spells, you'll geek yourself before the other team gets to geek you, with all that drain all-around. You can also think about doing buff spells on your teammates, which can end up more effective than Stunballing everybody by yourself.

Oh, and don't forget getting a mentor spirit!
>>
>>43885390
>and even lower on rules understanding

You will need to correct that, because Shadowrun is a very crunchy, obtrusive, and poorly designed game.

Magic is at its worst when dealing straight damage, outside of a few corner-cases. You can deal a lot of damage with spells, but you're going to eat a lot of drain in the process so you can only cast a few big spells in a run before incapacitating yourself.

Guns and grenades work very well, and mages tend to carry them as well if only to keep from standing out.

Mages draw much of their strength from their versatility - they can cast damage spells, but they can also cast a lot of other spells, summon spirits, and counter enemy magic.
>>
>>43885618
>Magic is at its worst when dealing straight damage, outside of a few corner-cases.
I actually know only of one, and that is the Witness My Hate quality. Which fucks you, but (normally) lets you fuck everyone else before.
>>
>>43885691
I was thinking of using mana spells against living opponents with absurdly high armor (the classic cybertroll), actually.

Witness My Hate effectively just lets you cast spells at a higher force before taking phys instead of stun drain. I guess if you've got a pain editor it makes a difference.

What I'm hearing is that fireball mage is a really bad idea, haha.

How about Chaos Magic from Street Grimoire, so I can take intuition as the spellcasting attribute (that's how it works, yeah?) followed up by a spread of:

BOD: 3
AGI: 4
REA: 4
STR: 1
CHA: 2
INT: 6
LOG: 3
EDG: 3
MAG: 6

This makes for a bloke with minimal physical strength, but pretty impressive raw magical talent and understanding. Decent reaction and agility combine to keep him alive, and he's already a little naturally lucky.

No studious magical background, other than watching the con artists on the street work their own brand of magic. (This lets me use Street for knowledge skills?) SINless in the urban jungle seems reasonable for this.

What's the importance of Mentor Spirit? It didn't seem that really impressive.
>>
>>43885783
There's no pics of /dev/grrl but she was brought into 4ed as a loli hacker because if you don't include at least one child hacking prodigy you lose your cyberpunk license.
>>
>>43885824

any time frame on the rigger book? god damn..
>>
>>43885786
>What I'm hearing is that fireball mage is a really bad idea, haha.
Yep. Well, a fireball here and then is fine, too, and may be a very good part of a tactic, but not a fireball per round. You either fireball them to soften them up or to mop up at the end. In-between you work with conventional means and/or spirits.

Chaos magic is pretty great and was actually what I thought about with this guy.

Attribute spread looks very solid, as long as nobody expects you to face (which some people automatically expect of mages).
Look at all the Int-linked skills, and buy some of them, it's a nice synergy. A fuckhueg Perception pool is a VERY nice thing to have.

These +2 Dice in SEVERAL things is very useful, and a bargain for the 5 karma. Also it gives you something really, really nice to roleplay with. Also don't forget to get a specialisation in whatever your mentor gives you a bonus in. Suddenly, it's +4 for for example a spirit type. Rolling 16 dice is way better than rolling 12.

>This lets me use Street for knowledge skills?
Nope. Sorry, omae.
>>
>>43885786
>>43885918
Ah, forgot to mention. You could think about going meta. Elf boosts Agility and Cha, Dwarf boosts Willpower, you could even think about going Orc, because a tuxedo street magician orc is friggin awesome and also because you apparently are supposed to get in fights a lot. And well, orcs get no Int malus.
>>
>>43885786
>>43885918
>>43885954
Shit, still forgot some things. First of all you forgot to mention your Willpower in your attribute spread. And then I wanted to expand on the Street and Knowledge bit. Each singular Knowledge skill is put in one of 4 types, and Street is well, for stuff you can legitimately describe as "street knowledge", like Safehouses, Fixers, Gangs, maaaybe Police Procedures. Capisce?
>>
What defines a "drone". Like can a weapon or gun become a "drone"? I think I remember seeing that there is some kind of tripod turret that can be purchased and it functions automatically?? Would a rigger be able to rig into it? What CAN'T a rigger interface with in terms of machines or whatever? I know it has to have a rigger interface but what can a rigger interface be placed onto?
>>
>>43885918
Oh man, a second look at Mentor Spirit actually is pretty nice.
Do you suppose Cat is appropriate? Toying with opponents, illusion spells, and staying limber feel "right" for the character.

>>43885954
Meta is off the table, I'm afraid. We're keeping this a humies-only party for now. I'd love to do sleight-of-hand with hands the size of dinner plates, but some other time.

>>
>>43886028
A "drone" is generally something with a Pilot rating. Or, in other words, a device that can operate independently and with at least some basic logic to it. A rigger interface is for jumping in, which isn't necessary to be a drone, strictly speaking. AFAIK you can install it everywhere with a sensor array and some action it can perform, unless your GM says no.
>>
>>43886070
I'll be sure to mention drop that line in game, thank you.
I nearly forgot.
>>
>>43886080

Now... can any drone theoretically be controlled via rigger remote control thingy? What is that shit called in s5.. rigger command console? Hell, why do they even have this damned thing? Is it actually useful to link all your shit like that?
>>
>>43886049
Cat is one of my favourite Mentors out there. But I would check in on your GM/group about it if you're supposed to be a damage dealer.

That Willpower is golden, and you're right about the knowledge skills stuff.
>>
>>43886103
All drones can be remotely controlled even without it. You just use their AR controls, that's what the Control Device action is for.

The RCC is for running autosofts and controlling drone armies, basically.

And that's where my knowledge ends, I don't actually know a lot about rigging.
>>
Could a mage get away with using Agony instead of having a weapon skill?
>>
>>43886880
>Could a mage get away with using WHATEVER instead of having a weapon skill?
No. Just buy your 5–6 points in Automatics or Pistols (+spec) and call it a day. That's enough for either suppressive fire, which is a great contribution to a fight, or to tase a motherfucker with an absolutely legal weapon you can take almost everywhere
>>
>>43886906
>WHATEVER
I dunno, I've found that spirits are a nice replacement for weapon skills.
>>
>>43887069
You can shoot a gun while being on 8 boxes down on your stun damage track. If you summon shit their, you'd get knocked out. And we haven't even started talking about background counts and similar pleasantries. It's a great alternative, don't get me wrong, but nothing is as safe and controlled as having a gun (or other mundane combat methods). You always need a safe backup.

The RCC has two big functions

1) It can store and run autosofts for your drones. Most drones only have one autosoft slot, so they're very limited in what they do. The RCC is basically external memory that lets drones be more flexible.

2) Without an RCC, you can only give commands to one drone at a time, as you access each one individually. An RCC lets you give commands to all your drones, or whichever ones you specifically select. It's necessary if you want to have a drone swarm.

Guys, I thought about buying Sleeping Tiger suit for my infiltrator-bioadept. But RAW it'd seem that I'd need to enable wireless in order to collect on those cool sneaking bonuses, which is obviously a poor idea if I'm going to head into any compound with basic Matrix security. Am I reading this right?

Also, the "ruthenium polymer coating" upgrade doesn't need the wireless to be enabled, yes?

From what it looks like in the book, a purchase grants you a pair, either on your hands or on your feet. So basically, you could get two pairs, one for your hands and one for your feet. It says for each pair you get +1 unarmed damage. I would, if I was running a game, only allow the two pairs to be purchased. That's just me though. Another GM might allow you to take it to strengthen the blows from your elbows or knees as well. Guess it just depends on your GM's discretion.
>>
>>43888714
The Sleeping Tiger's RPC function is listed as a wireless bonus, so I would treat it as such. RPC's description doesn't mention wireless functionality, so I would waive the wireless requirement for standalone RPC that's added aftermarket. Talk to your GM.

Smart firing platform can turn a gun into something like a drone. It doesn't seem to be able to be hooked into a RCC but you can give it commands and targeting info.

The problem with Bunraku comes, obviously, when the dolls aren't allowed to ever turn the personafixes off.

Spirits thought of as ghosts, or memories. Some mages might decide that a mentor spirit might just be a manifestation of their subconscious.

Not necessarily humanoid, but human concepts. It's dead easy for a hermetic to think they have an imaginary friend that they bounce ideas off of, some larger-than-life figure that might be their subconscious or a thought construct.

When I asked why, the GM said that he'd heard of so many characters with "free'd bunraku puppet" in their background that he thought it would be funny if the criminals in question noticed a high amount of escaped bunraku becoming shadowrunners with a personal bone to pick. And they wanted to avoid that kind of conflict. Much better for business in the long run to just honor the contract.

Both of these are true. Legally speaking, a bunraku is what your first paragraph described. A prostitute who has personafix chips installed when they work, so that they can fit any personality type/fetish that the client desires.

Where it gets icky and sex-slave-y is when you have companies that don't let you turn off your personafix and keep you as an actual slave against your will. This happens in the darker underworld aspects of Shadowrun as a setting, and this is where many people would have in-character issues.

The former is completely legal and normal. Maybe frowned upon a bit by those who don't understand desperation, but more or less normal. The latter is a frightening situation you don't want to find yourself in, and because it does happen it's the image that pretty much everyone has of bunraku.

>>
>>43900048

Well, yes, essentially they're all human constructs, but the humanoid ones tend to embody things specifically to do with humans, as opposed to traits we see reflected in animals.
Fire-Bringer or Dragonslayer have no animal equivalents. Same for artisan, or blacksmith. The humanoid ones are easiest to accept by Hermetics because they are so specific to people, they can be considered to embody some aspect of the caster.
>>
>>43900048
I meant that they're easy to relate to real people; you can imagine a Fire-Bringer or a Dragon-Slayer easily (and they are in fact hard to think of in the abstract), but a Shark is more primal and separate from human society and interaction.

Your idea would work fine, though there's still the problem that A) they need to come up with an idea of what free spirits are, because hermetics don't believe they're independent creatures, and B) why would they take advice from random magical phenomenon?
>>
>>43900139
>Your idea would work fine, though there's still the problem that A) they need to come up with an idea of what free spirits are, because hermetics don't believe they're independent creatures,

Where can I read more about this?
>>
>>43900190
It's older fluff, from back when mages and shamans were separated. Hermetic theory used to hold that spirits were basically inefficient spells, magical phenomena created by shamans to help them understand how they were using magic.

Nowadays it's fairly outdated (especially that free spirits are relatively well observed) but hermetics then to think that spirits are semi-sentient beings, the result of magical environments given shape by the caster but not fully-formed creatures in and of themselves.

>>
>>43900487

Not really. If you believe that your perception of things is altered by how you understand them, and in the case of magic it's clear that different interpretations result in different manifestations, then it's easy to say that the metaplanes and its denizens are just projections of the visitor.
>>
How viable would a bioborg infiltrator with some adept powers be in 5e? Would I be spread too thin, or can I make it work?
All books allowed.
>>
>>43900487
Ah, but who's to say they don't congeal around the mage upon their arrival? Who's to say that specific metaplanes even exist, and they're not simply formed from the reaction of a metahuman mind upon the 7-dimensional space that is the unlimited potential of magic, forcing that potential to fit preconceived notions because humans by definition aren't able to comprehend infinity?
>>
>>43900601
Bioadept infiltrators are generally the best infiltrators. But the emphasis is generally on the adept bit.
>>
>>43900368
It's still kinda backed up in that Hermetic spirits can't speak and lack any real outward appearance of being people, largely because hermatics believe that they aren't people.
>>43900487
Most people avoid going to the metaplanes.

What book's it in?
>>
>>43900487
a) Old fluff
b) The metaplanes are the Planes of human imagination where constructs of human imagination seem to exist. They are real, but not really their own beings. They are basically thoughts/memes given mana flesh.
>>
>>43900716
Knitting supplies? A case of old mushy romance trideo flicks? A ticket to Maria Mercurial's latest comeback tour? I dunno, what does she like?
>>
>>43900725
Fair enough. I'll figure it out. Thanks.
>>
>>43900716
What are her knowledge skills like?
>>
>>43900115
I guess so, but I'd think that any mentor spirit could embody some aspect of the caster. That some traits are reflected in animals doesn't make them less relevant to people. Nor do I think that a mentor spirit's traits being based on those of an animal make them less relatable as people.

Like, there's a fiction on page 138 of Street Grimoire where a Hermetic student named Scott learns geomancy from Wolf. Wolf in that story doesn't really have any wolf-like traits, apart from looking like a wolf. He takes a seat in the classroom and heckles the student's professor, then winks at Scott when he turns to look. He generally acts cordial and charismatic. With that kind of portrayal, I don't see any fundamental distinction between the animal mentor spirits and the humanoid mentor spirit.
>>
>>43877586
Do you guys change any part of the fluff of the world when you play? If so, what?
>>
>>43900749

Bloody Business
>>
>>43900657
They can still communicate telepathically though. The book specifically mentions spirits reporting back the results of their tasks.
>>
>>43900817

There's always exceptions, but mages tend to look at spirits as intelligent servants, nothing more.
That's why humanoid Mentor Spirits could work. You'd be able to fluff it as a ghost of a human, or a memory of one, or even a projection of the mage's psyche without much fiddling.
I suppose, since otherkin exist, any animal could work, but you know, what does that say about the mage's perception of the self?
>>
>>43900836
Cut out all the Earthdawn shit, obviously.

Moved CFD to the back, because there's enough body-snatching already going on in-setting that I don't need an incurable disease with 100% victory that should sweep the globe in a matter of days, and only doesn't because reasons.
>>
>>43900716

>>43900872
And african greys can count, use english, and are about as intelligent as a very unintelligent toddler. Your point?
>>
>>43900878
Nobody says that your animal-named Mentor Spirit should look like an animal. Shark can pretty well be an emaciated but vicious pirate as an embodiment of Hunger. And so on.
>>
>>43900903

I always thought CFD was just the scare of the moment. It's not like this is an active problem for most people, just shit they talk about.
>>
>>43900878
I'm saying that the book emphasizes how the mentor spirits are archetypes, and can take whatever form is appropriate to the caster's beliefs. Just because the book lists a given mentor spirit as an animal doesn't mean it has to be one.

In other words, I don't see why the animal mentor spirits should be off the table.
>>
>>43900973
>>43900817
You could make it a more human spirit too; mentor spirits have a bunch of different forms. Dog might be a literal dog, or it might be your old college roommate, the one who died in that freak beer pong accident.

There's no rule saying you can't take an animal spirit and see it as a human, but it's just an easier jump with something that's already human-based.

>>
>>43900968
It's not pressing, but with stuff like the whole 'Space is almost entirely taken over by headcases, they're planning a rocket ship out of the galaxy, and they sent messages across global grids to everyone' they're well known enough.

And it's a lot easier to justify nanobots taking over than it is super-rare shedim, or relatively rare and difficult to hide insect spirits. I just hate the paranoia of 'oh, maybe they're infected and are plotting against you, how can you tell?' I don't play games to make people more stressed out.

I just finished Hong Kong, and I have to say, the characters in this one were way more interesting and well done than any previous iteration. Being born a orc must really shitty. They live far shorter than humans. Why the hell would you want to be an orc? From a fluff perspective lol.

I don't think orcs chose to be orcs, omae.
>>
>>43902068
>lol
They're supposed to be the downtrodden. No one likes them (except Big D) and they die too quickly.

Personally I have always houseruled that out. I hate it. They still have shorter lives than humans, but it's closer to averaging on sixty or seventy instead of fucking forty.
>>
>>43902097
most orks die of other reasons than old age, unless you count gang shooting or industrial accidents as old age. so it brings the avg life expectancy down.
>>
>>43895898
>PED Marine
my african chum
>>
>>43902145
>>43902097

Wait.. so age 40 IS HELLA OLD FOR AN ORK?! Christ.. So are they like "adults" at age 10? What the fuck?
>>
>>43902145
Yeah, even in my houseruled Shadowrun fluff there's still a low average life expectancy for orks. But in the actual race section of 4eA, it says that they live stupid-short lives, averaging at 40. While I'm down with them being shorter-lived, that's just a bit too short.

>>43902170
They're adults when the rest of the races are adults. They just are supposed to die stupidly shortly after. Kind of like how elves live for...what, was it a couple hundred years? The races don't all just live normal human lives in regards to time.
>>
>>43902170
>>43902190
They pretty much ARE adult at 10 (at least, well, bodily. On the other hand, shitty lives tend to make people mature faster). Which sucks for them a lot.

Also dwarves live a couple of hundreds of years. Elves… Nobody knows yet, because even the Spike babies haven't become significantly older as of 2075
>>
>>43901984
Nope, you've got some other toaster lover on your hands.
>>43901978
Pretty much, yes. The way I write has a lot to do with it, but I lead a rather subdued life all in all so I'm not surprised it comes across that way.
>>43902068
From a fluff perspective it's not exactly a choice. Personally speaking I consider the 'they all die at forty' thing be almost entirely social but largely avoidable, providing they can get access to proper lifestyles and medical care, like >>43902097.
>>43902145
Even aside from that, the fluff points out that they age much quicker, reaching full maturity by 14 and being well past their prime by their 30s.
>>43902170
Full physical maturity at 14. From memory orks at EVO gain their legal majority at 16.
>>
So orks try and pack as much life in those few years they can. sex, drugs and rock n' roll, live fast a leave a pretty...err... corpse.
>>
What advantages do orks have racially? Like what would make someone envious of an ork?
>>
>>43902240

Read somewhere, maybe Seattle 2072, that Orcs are physically mature at age 12, which makes middle school awkward, as you have a bunch of sex-crazed teens running around next to kids who are just discovering their sexuality. High school is -really- awkward for them, being that they're a bunch of built 20-somethings, perfectly capable of making rational, adult decisions, being treated liked children.
>>
>>43902364
You serious? Obviously their raw power. A scrawny orc is bigger and strong than many trained humans.

Can you conceal Cyberdecks?
Hermes Chariot seems to be the size of a large tablet, which doesn't seem that hard to hide if someone tried to conceal it in their lined coat. but the designs in shadowrun returns seem way to large to hide in anything smaller than an inconspicuous duffle bag.
>>
>>43902992
Returns is back in the 50s, where decks were massive keytars. 4th and 5th reduced their size dramatically.
>>
>>43902992
SRR takes place in the 50s and their decks are keyboard-esque. 70's Decks are more modern tablet size, could fit inside a large pocket.

This is /dev/grrl's cyberdeck and carrying case from 5E. (Sorry about the borders, hasty picture). They're about the size of an iPad, probably, and they'd be easy to hide. Classic decks from pre-2nd Crash were huge out of necessity, as far as I know. New 5E cyberdecks are significantly smaller, since I believe they're derived from the cell-phone-sized commlinks that were used for 4E hacking.
>>
>>43902992
What everybody else said. And also you can make your deck look like, I dunno, your favourite dragon dildo. This way people will need to look in the matrix or inspect your dildo close-up to understand it's (also) something besides the dildo functionality.
>>
>>43902992
Shadowrun Returns isn't set in the current time of the tabletop. You can slap a cyberdeck into your head as a implant in 5e, so it's pretty damn easy to conceal.
>>
>>43903181
sounds like a bitch to repair if it ever takes damage.

>>43903210
Yep. Gotta take the deck out (via surgery), fix it, then reimplant it (via more surgery). There's a reason why it's popular with government/military forces and larger corpsec deckers. Because Uncle Sam/the consumer is paying for it, not the user.

So one weird thing about old Norse philosophy, was that they believed people were modular. As in, parts of you could break off into their own independent entities, wander off, be loaned to others, or be reabsorbed. For example, Huginn and Muninn are not just pet ravens. They're literally Odin's desire and contemplation, personified and detached from him. Same for Freki and Geri, Odin's wolves.

I was thinking of some homebrew for Norse mages along these lines - a spell similar to Watcher, where you sacrifice an attribute dot and one or more skills tied to that attribute in order to create a far more aware watcher, who has the specified skills. This spirit can give teamwork bonuses to anyone performing the specified skills, and maybe a few other things. You can cancel the spell to reabsorb the attribute, skills, and the spirit's memories, but if the spirit dies, everything you gave it is lost permanently.

What do you think?
>>
>>43903892
Cool idea, absolutely not viable in SR.

Also, losing stuff permanently (possibly) based on GM fiat is a VERY VERY bad idea. Don't go there.
>>
So what kinds of spirits does a Christian Theurge summon? Ostensibly they'd look and behave like angels, but the fiction seems to contradict this. Like, in the first fiction of Street Grimoire there's an Eastern Orthodox mage with an ally spirit that doesn't personally identify with Chrisitanity.

Is there any more detail on this subject?
>>
>>43903629

I've counted. She's 21, going on 22 soon. This is because she was 16 in 2072. The current metaplot date is late November 2077, if the date on Hard Targets is something to go by.
>>
>>43904335

The Catholic Church's stance on spirits is that they are not angels and demons but nature spirits.
>>
>>43904381
Exactly, spirits. But Theurges don't "summon" "spirits". They draw on the power of LORD and humbly ask angels to appear.

>>43904335
It obviously depends on how this concrete Theurge sees their magic.
>>
What enhancements are good for riggers? Also, how do riggers defend their stuff from deckers? I feel like you need decker skills to defend all your expensive equipment from well.. deckers.. How do riggers deal with deckers?
>>
>>43904381
So why do voodoo mages get to summon Loa who act like Loa, but when a christian mage calls down angels, they get flying cats instead? Seems pretty arbitrary to me.
>>
>>43904613
The RCC has a firewall rating IIRC. Also you can slave it through your commlink which the better ones have a decent firewall. Also you link it to your decker's PAN and he's also responsible for keeping the team's electronics safe.
>>
>>43904613
>How do riggers deal with deckers?

By hiring one to protect their precious drones. Alternatively, by finding and ventilating the drekhead trying to mess with their precious drones with extreme prejudice.
>>
>>43902190
It' s not even long enough for any of the fluff orcs in the books, ever, even people who logically would never have been able to afford leonization.

Basically it's a fine tradition of CGL/FASA having no clue what they're writing about.
>>
>>43902190
One of the reasons for their low life expectancy is lack of access to medicine, higher rates of violence, etc. A rich orc with access to nice things, education, a stable job and supportive friends will probably live longer.
>>
How do you guys Priority your Deckers?

I've got a vague idea of making an Adept Decker who takes advantage of Improved Reflex, in order to hack in AR just as fast (or faster) than normal Deckers hack in Hot Sim.

But, I'm not the best with CC, and I've never done any burnout work before, so I don't really know how to do this. E human, D skills, C magic (adept, +1 for special skill for being human), B attributes, A money? Need a minimum magic 4 to get improved reflex 3 (3.5 power points), and the +1 magic for being human let's me Comfortably get some cyberware.

But I'm not sure, and definitely looking for critique
>>
>>43905338
Not that much. It's been made clear since first edition and confirmed in every following one that orks got the shaft from mother nature on top of getting the short straw when it comes to living conditions and racism. They simply mature and age faster.
>>
>>43898257
That's how it goes in Neuromancer.
>>
>>43905504
What edition are you playing?
>>
>>43905504
Keep in mind you lose out on the bonus deckers get from being in hot sim. With that being said, you have an extra .5 points to spend on adept powers and I'd recommend the Light Touch power, which gives a people a penalty on perception checks to notice things you're doing with you hand. Combine that with the palming skill and you can do your decking out in the open with few people noticing you.

You're painfully low on edge, so that'll be your next investment after chargen. Maybe spend 10 karma to raise it to 2.

Other standard deckers stuff like a Cerebral Booster are recommended as per usual. Anything else you want this guy to do besides deck from AR?
>>
>>43906068
A datajack will do the same (and more) for 0.1 essence and allow him to go in hot if he ever needs it. No need to waste power points on that.
>>
>>43906055

5e.

>>43906068

I do understand that I'll be missing out a little bit (I plan on giving him a Datajack, so hot Sim is still possible), but, with having him only in AR, it makes him have absolutely no fear of biofeedback damage of any kind.

And... not really. I know that typically you're supposed to be more than a 1 trick pony, but this guy is mostly just going to be a decker. Mayyyybe an off - face if we don't have one, but I doubt it.

Also, Humans have, at base, 2/7 edge. Sure, 2 edge is still pretty damn low, but it is better than 1. And a 15 karma sink early on for 3 edge would be a great investment.
>>
>>43906118
A good point.

>>43906145
Whoops, mixed up human's starting edge. Yeah you don't need to do that at chargen, but definitely think about it later. If you don't want to do the Light Touch power because of the datajack like >>43906118 said, take the improved ability power for an extra die. If you feel like taking a risk at addiction; remember that initiative from adept powers stacks with drugs. You can lower that Improved Reflexes if you feel you'd like something else.
>>
>>43906145
What 'ware would you like to grab exactly beside the datajack?
>>
>>43906118
Trodes let you got hot if you have a hotsim module
>>
>>43906195
Yes, and?
>>
>>43906181

Honestly, I really don't know. Minimal stuff, but mostly headware. I'm not the most proficient with adeptd OR deckers, much less combining them together, but this idea seems like a lot of fun.

(Fluff wise, I am gonna try to have this guy be a DJ at a club, so that HAS influenced this list)

Data jack is important. Cybereyes will let him always exist in AR. Cyber ears will do the same (and since he'd be a musician, they'd be kinda tricked out cyber ears, rating 3).

I also considered having an implanted commlink or cyberdeck, but those seem like a waste of precious essence when I'm limited to just 1.0 essence loss to keep myself at 4 magic points.
>>
>>43906241
Cerebral Boosters are a good boost for a Decker (many Matrix actions are linked to Logic).

If all you want is being able to see AR all the time, an implanted Image Link is enough, no need for full cybereyes.
>>
>>43906288

Eh, I always forget that's a thing. But, that being said, image link is .1 essence alone. For .2 more essence, I can have rating 2 cyber eyes, image link for effectively free, and a bunch of other bonuses like low light/thermal vision, flare comp, and vision enhancements.

As It stands, a Data jack is .1, rating 2 eyes are .3, rating 3 ears are .4, making a total of .8 Essence. If I were to get these all as alphaware (not that big of a stretch), that drops them to .64 essence in total.

Cerebral boosters are .2 apiece. So getting both would put me at .4 essence (rating 2 is 12 avail, so i couldn't do alpha if I wanted).

Now, granted, if I dropped the cybereyes to rating 1, I would have .56+.4, for .96 essence cost (5.04 essence total), so there's something to think about there.
>>
>>43906445
Or get contactswith imagelink
>>
>>43906445
Grab the biocompatibility (cyberware) quality. That'll save you exactly .06 essence, enough to drop you under 1.

I understand 5e embraced the idea that now everything is wireless, but it still talks about jacking in and stuff. Also, apparently there are VR glasses now, so you don't actually have to waste essence for a cyberjack just to get onto the Matrix.

so how does it all work? in what situations do I need to jack in? how much can I access wirelessly? do I need to bring a decker on site if a run needs hacking, or can the guy stay in the other side of the city in a safehouse?

I also played Shadowrun: Hong Kong to get a general idea on how stuff works now, but in the game if there was no jack point in a mission, then there was no decking.

SRHK was in the 2050's, 56' if I remember correctly, which would be before 4e, when wireless was adapted into the rules.

Generally, the decker needs to be there. Noise, and the resilience of Hosts make van-decking a practical imposibility.

Hosts can take Slaves (so can regular devices like decks), which protects them from wireless attacks with their Firewall rating, but this would be the chink in the Host's armor. If you get a mark(shorthand for your control privileges on a device) on a slaved device, you get an automatic mark on their master, and since the Host's Firewall rating protection only works on wireless connections, you can use a universal connector to connect to a device directly (contending with it's own weak Firewall rating) and hack a mark, which "echoes up", and gives you access to the Host right away. Remote-decking is not advisable not because it's hard(well, it is, but it's doable), but because directly connecting is so, so much easier.

There's a 5e flowchart for decking. But, honestly, it DOES take some getting used to. Do not feel bad for being nervous about it. Hell, I still don't feel the best about it.

I'll try to find the chart to help ya out.

Also, this thread is on its last leg, don't feel bad about the new one.

Say, who did the german mentor spirits for chummer? Couldn't find any pulls/issues in the github.I just noticed they are in, but with several errors.

Can the next thread question be about Terrorism and HTR teams?

My runners threw a back of grenades into a Saeder Krupp lobby and left blood outside because they failed stealthing past security. I was just going to make 20+ badasses in chummer and pick some awesome drones, but if there are book guidelines, other GM experiences, I'd love to hear them.

For the love of god, if you're making a strike squad, make them a strike SQUAD.

Don't make them just charge at them and swarm them like mooks. Have highly specialized characters that work as a team to execute your goal.

Have them first find out where the team is. Then, lob in some stun grenades (or tear gas. That works too). If this is in doors, have pairs work in tandem to infiltrate and execute. If they're being attacked outside, have a pair of crack shots lay suppressive fire from above (giving superior positioning bonuses as well), have a sniper (possibly with a spotter giving teamwork tests, depending on how much you want to fuck then), picking off people in cover, a mage tending to the team (up to 3. I don't know how badass your group is. The first mage needs to be offensive. The second needs to be support, with improved attribute spells and increase reflexes and shit like that. 3rd needs to be dedicated to healing, and then utility, in that order.).

Having some melee Sam's isn't a bad idea, just make sure that they don't get caught in the suppression.

Oh, and for the record: run and Gun, bulls eye burst. If you got yourself a sniper with a barrett, which has a base AP of -6, and use this? It's -18, and an additional -4 for the APDS rounds for a whopping -22 AP. Throw in a bit of ware from chrome flesh that let's you remain still (each rank gives you +1 to your maximum aim)(I forget what it's called, unfortunately), and give him, I don't know... 6 agility, +4 muscle toner (?), 11 skill, 2 for smart link, let's say he can aim 5 times... specialized in sniping... that's 30 dice to snipe.

And then have the spotter equally as effective with teamwork tests. You'll turn a literal tank into swiss cheese with those numbers.

In the end, make a team that REALLY works together, not just a bunch of mooks with better guns than normal.

I would think 6th world divine magic would be decidedly Neoplatonic in nature.

For a Christian metaphysics that works well with Shadowrun's spirit mechanics, check out Pseudo-Dionysius.

I haven't played Shadowrun in over twenty years.

What'd I miss?

Depends on who you ask. By my understanding: I got better It got refined, and the latest two editions seem to be pretty well even for "which is better"
