>>
>>43852739
He indeed defeated the Imperium of Man in a massive war.

However the second part of the prophecy has him transforming into Mont'shaar after his victory. We don't know if that's really going to happen or not. Farsight spent two centuries trying to avoid that fate.

In any case, the Tau are safe now behind a wall of fire. Who knows what will happen to the Tau during the time it will take for the fire to burn out?

More spoilers for Mont'ka
Farsight Enclaves re-merge with the Tau Empire, Shadowsun and him have split command of the Fire Caste
Shadowsun gets saved by Farsight from the Vindicaire assassin
One of the Eight, torchstar, dies to Shrike while saving Farsight, this is the only Farsight enclaves casualty
Khan finally gets to fight Shadowsun, she shoots his legs off
It's implied the Tau get access to the warp/webway for travel
An entire titan legion is destroyed before it makes landfall, the Earth Caste salvages EVERYTHING
The Obsidian Knight doesn't make it to the Imperium's retreat, the Tau have to evacuate a CONTINENT to avoid him
The Obsidian Knight destroys an entire hunter contingent, including a cadre of stormsurges and a fucking manta

Okay, will this Warp access mean ANYTHING at all for Chaos to finally do something? Also I am still kinda dumbfounded with all this Tau win. Fluff wise if they put up anything like a fight of that extent against the Imperium, does the Imperium not have more than enough numbers and firepower to take care of them? This is where I would like to see something super interesting for the Tau. Does this Warp/Webway access have anything to do with it?

>>
>>43852944
Assault is a shitty aspect of the game that should just get removed and left to rot with AoS.
>>
>>43852901
the game has changed. now if you wanna be an assault army you need speed, powers, or durability. look at some of the best known assault units. marine bikers, thunderwolf cavalry, etc

oh and find someone not doing a shooting heavy army. though in my experience when i say i play daemons even the assault orientated marines shoot more
>>
>>43852804
Welp.

This will certainly be interesting.

They are basically a mini Imperium now, what with their new acquisition of technology and possible warp travel.

I can see what they are doing, they are trying to make Tau a bigger galactic player, and warp travel/ webway travel will do exactly that.

operationalize " given close to anything of a real chance to AoS".

How many games do you need to play before you can say it's shit? How many different missions with how many different armies?
I know you're just a shitposter trying to turn 40k general in to AoS hate-wank but it truly is a bad game.
>>
>>43852924
Why would Chaos give a fuck about Tau? as for the Tau winning, before they were even an army the Imperium was stretched to it's limit, so now that they are stronger than a chapter, and still the smallest macro scale threat in the area, the Imperium won't be able to siphon off the resources necessary to deal with them, at least not immediately, give the administratum a generation or two, then we will see the weeaboo-slaughtering campaign.

>>43852984

The Warzone Damocles is among the major warzone in the galaxy. The tank warfare there is among the largest the Imperium EVER fought.

If the Tau continued unopposed, then they would have grasped a sizeable chunk of the Imperium.

Are Blood Claws worth taking at all? Or is it just better to spend those points on Grey Hunters? I'm not looking to powergame my army, but I want my first 750 points to be a little versatile.
>>
>>43852964
Aside from being weaker, the whole assault phase could use a rework, as it is the clunkiest and most boring part of the game atm, any sort of choice added to the actual fighting in close combat would go a long way to improving the phase.
>>
>>43853043
Warning: high levels of delusion contained in this post
>>
>>43852804
So, to sum up, the Imperium has been BTFO on literally every level by an enemy that it outnumbers 1000 to 1. They lost battlefields, irreplacable war machines, and some of their greatest heroes while the Tau humiliated Imperium units at their specialties, nullified all of their preexisting weaknesses, and suffered exactly one loss of significance that's still a win for them because of the resultant shakeup.

I swear, the only person who comes out of this looking worse than the Imperium is Abaddon. If this is the best the Imperium can do, he has no excuse for not bombarding Terra right now.

How are the people still not grasping that the Imperium is up to their ears in shit? Chaos alone outnumber them vastly and are currently hammering on their door, and if they get through the Imperium is finished. At this moment in time, they can't handle Chaos on their own, nevermind deal with a major WAAAGH! or Hive Fleet. The fact they are sparing ANYONE to fight a comparatively benign race is suicidally stupid. Just because you have a fuck tonne of guys doesn't mean you can wipe out a smaller faction when you are simultaneously fighting 3 other races who are all individually more numerous than you.

There is no "close combat" per se
Units within 3" of an enemy unit have to "retreat" in the movement phase or "pile in and attack" in the assault phase but it doesn't effect them in the shooting phase so they can shoot the guys they're engaged with or even ignore them and shoot someone else.

yeah, you're right. shooting doesn't have many downsides while cqc has tons. i would add in the 6th nightfighting rules where you can't see more then 36" without searchlights or nightvision. adding in pinning to all templates might help as well. let units assault the turn they disembark if the vehicle didn't move. flying monstrous creatures can change flight modes and assault. let units with fleet run and assault. also jump/jetpack units do this because let's face it there is little reason to use a jump pack when bikes offer more

I'm not sure what setting you're looking at. The Chapter who killed a small, weakened Craftworld was subsequently flattened by Biel-Tan. Not familiar with the GD the Imperium permakilled, but I do recall that temporarily killing Angron cost 100 Grey Knights, along with the countless Guardsmen and Astaetes killed in the preceding battles.

And they actually have a check and balance system in place for its use. Inquisitors who call in Exterminatus can face the Ordo Excorium, who judge whether or not the planet was unsalvagable. It's the one thing they can be held to account on.

IIRC, the Ordo runs something like an 80% conviction rate. Make of that what you will.

Yes, compare it to an eviscerator.
>must assault the vehicle
>2 armourbane attacks
>25 points
vs
>can shoot the vehicle then assault the passengers
>1 armourbane attack per pistol
>15 points each

Taking two in a death company squad isn't a bad idea even just for popping rhinos or the like to get into the meat inside, but if you know your opponent isn't bringing light vehicles they're pointless.
>>
>>43853541
This is awful advice. Melta pistols have offensively short range and will never be used. And you can only charge what you shoot meaning even if you did pop the vehicle you still couldn't assault what is inside.
>>
Would it be cool to take 2-3 exorcists at 1500 points in a casual game?
>>
>>43853558
not disagreeing with the validity of melta pistols but,

>And you can only charge what you shoot meaning even if you did pop the vehicle you still couldn't assault what is inside.

They should have made a Tau vs ork campaign instead.
Have them gain worlds on several ork empire thanks to the infighting of flamboyant ork tyrants at the cost of having the remaining orks of the region starting to unite.

I fear it's tau vs imperium because you can't have anything happening in 40k without the imperium being involved.
>>
>>43853558
Wrong. You can always charge the contents of a transport you wrecked
>>
>>43853525
It's hard to say when there's not limit on what you can bring.

Melee units charge by determining how far they can go then picking a target within range so they is no risk and no overwatch.

They're short range but still better than getting into assault to deal damage to vehicles. BA are all about getting the charge off, even really good units like death company can crumple when counter charged. They're worth their points when you have a fair idea you'll be facing chimera, rhino, raider or trukk spam.
>>
>>43853481
The Imperium won on Damnos but it did nothing more than restore status quo ante. Less the casualties. However, the unit that destroyed the transport CANNOT charge any units because its target unit was killed in shooting.
Inferno pistols a shit.

Pandorax is a bit of a wierd case. The Imperium did hold the planet, but Abaddon got everything he really wanted out of the campaign without losing anything he cared to have. Instead of everyone losing, everyone won. Except Corpulax and Epimetheus. They lost pretty badly.

Right, I am looking to make my own Blood Ravens descendants, so, I made some Psyker-heavy chapter tactics to complement them in friendly games:

1) All Vehicles, Characters and Independant Characters may take a 25-point upgrade to gain "Psyker: Mastery Level 1" or "Psychic Pilot: Mastery Level 1" if the warlord of the army takes this upgrade, they get "Psyker: Mastery Level 2" their melee weapon then gains the "Force" special rule

2) Detatchment may not include Librarians

Essentially, they are based on a planet that the Tyrant Star has visited an alarmingly large amount of times (then again, 1 time is an alarmingly large amount of times) so, there is a VERY high Psyker presence on the planet.

Is this too OP?
>>
>>43853789
Yeah, I looked in transport and assault, even under the "emergency disembark from wrecked or destroyed vehicles" and it didn't say anything.
>>
>>43853584
Charging in AoS is 2d6" just like in 40k.
>>
>>43853810
Yeah but you roll 2d6 for each unit and then declare a charge for units with in that range.
>>
>>43853847

It's a pretty small force compared to the Imperium as w hole, which is the point. The Imperium has 10 000 times the amount of planets as the Tau, but their worlds are spread thinly and surrounded from all sides by enemies, so they could never send their entire military might against the Tau. The Tau don't have to be able to defeat the entire Imperium, just whatever crusade the Imperium can muster against them. The second Damocles Gulf Crusade is certainly a quite large crusade, with multiple Marine Chapter, countless guard regiments and an entire Titan Legion, and represents a significant investment to a single warzone by the Imperium, but it's still a very small part of the overall forces Imperium has spread through the galaxy.

>>43853203

The thing is that thematically the Imperium is supposed to be slowly falling apart. There are some cases where they do gain new ground (such as establishment of new sectors, or reclaiming worlds that have been lost for a long time), but generally they're getting pyrrhic victories at most.
The high point of the Imperium was during the Great Crusad,e when the Emperor still walked among men and had a vision of a unified galaxy and a golden age of humanity. The the Heresy happened and everything got fucked up forever. Now the Imperium is a mockery of the Emperor's vision, slowly falling apart from outside threats and inside corruption (both the Chaos kind and just the rules being more concerned with their own wellbeing than actually running this).

40k is, and has never been, a HFY setting. It's not a story of humanity relaiming the galaxy and stomping all the xenos. The Imperium is the Roman empire before its fall, barely holding the growing hordes of barbarians gathering outside the gates.

It's this mainly for me.

As neither a Taufag or Imperialfag what annoys me is just how fucking stupidly impossible the whole thing is.

The Imperium wasn't just given a bloody nose, it was rekt and sent packing. Now, I'm all for smaller forces overcoming larger does when it's well written or makes sense (Zulu is a good example of this even... Different discussion nvm)

But this was neither well written or believable. The Imperium outnumbered the Tau to such a fucking hilarious extent that Tau should should have been wiped by sheer numbers and brutal goddamn attrition. But they didn't. In fact they kicked ass and forced the Imperium to deploy forgotten and forbidden technologies to stop them. All the while making some of the Imperiums heavyweights look like chumps. And again, while I don't care if characters die, it has to be well done. Which it wasn't.

I liked the first crusade because the Imperium beat the shit out of the Tau and made them lose a load of territory. It was only brought to a standstill because of Shadosun and Farsight both managing to barely hold it off. And even then they were saved by a hive fleet.

This was just stupid. Unbelievable and stupid. And the fluff of the Obsidian Knight was stupid too, as badass as it sounded first reading it.

Rant over.

>Assassins got blasted after only killing a minor character.
They killed Aun'va, who is the supreme leader of the entire Tau Empire. Sure, he's not exactly often seen on the tabletop, but fluffwise he's massively important. It's the equivalent of somebody assasinating the pope or the president of the USA (or both combined, really, as he's both the supreme leader of the empire and their spiritual leader). You know how badly Tau tend to react to any ethereal getting killed? The moral blow of Aun'va dying would be orders of magnitude worse.

As mentioned before, the Imperium can't throw all of its forces against the Tau. Even if they massively outnumber them, the Imperium has its forces spread through the galaxy and is fighting enemies on all sides, including several threats considerably more dangerous than the Tau. They threw as big of a force as they could muster in a reasonable time without diverting forces from other imporant warzones, but said force wasn't big enough to crush the Tau outright and ended up being defeated.
Same thing happened with the first Damocles crusade (they made good progress initially, but by the time they reached the first major sept world they got bogged down due to difficulties with getting reinforcements fast enough to replace losses, and by the time the Imperium decided that the resources sent to support the crusade that hadn't made any progress for a long time could be better spend to fight the Tyranids they Imperial forces were actually getting pushed back).

Please. Pask is one man, from one regiment, from one planet. The codex just gave him a profile because he's Cadian.

You know what I like about the imperium? The fact that there's no way in all the stars that Pask is unique. The imperium is too big to even FEEL losing him.

Ten million planets, half a billion regiments, a hundred BILLION guardsmen. even if one in a MILLION is a tank ace, that gives us ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND tank aces.

This, xenos scum, is why the imperium endures. No matter who we lose, there is ALWAYS someone that can step up to take their place. >>
>>43854476
Theoretically yes, but in practice that would be hard. The Imperium does have about 10 000 time number of planets (around a million vs around a hundred) but that still doesn't necessarily mean they have enough forces availeable to easily crush the Tau. They're constantly fighting against rebellion, Orks, various xenos raiders, not to mentiong big threats like Chaos incrusions and the Nids. Mustering the amount of forces that could easily crush the Tau completely would require leaving a lot of sectors poorly defended and vulnerable to other threats, and drawing smaller amounts of forces from all over the Imperium wouldn't be practical because warp travel over long distances isn't know for being particularly fast or reliable.
That's not to say the Imperium would be content to leave the Tau around. They do want them dead and consider them to be a big potential threat (they're not a big threat now, but their technology advances rapidly enough that they could be in a few centuries), so they did throw the biggest force they could reasonably assemble in a reasonable time (with Tau, waiting for a few centuries to gather a bigger foce isn't very practial because they actually do advance their tech and by that time your information on their capabilities is outdated and the force might no longer be sufficient to crush them outright), which amounted to a pretty large crusade.

Seriously? They were designed to appeal to Americans. It even said outright in their Designer article in White Dwarf back in 2000 - knights in space, affix bayonets, etc were all considered very British things by GW, while "The Tau with their clean, near future, almost 'manga' technology" and focus on mobile firepower would appeal to the American demographic, according to Graham McNeil back when he was in the Design Studio.

So Tau must have been selling really well since the Riptide and 6th edition codex.
They got several new and updated kits, more than most armies. They became more competitive, putting them in the same conversation as Eldar, Necrons, and SM.
Now they get a campaign, and have their asses lovingly kissed by GW in the fluff.

2016 will bring us many, many unpainted Tau armies fielded by WAAC tards and general retards. Expect to be subjected to loud, idiotic conversations about Tau vs. Imperium. And the occasional hissyfit when Tautards Optimized Stealth Cadre underperforms against a Daemon or Nid list.

Not looking forward to this. But I rarely play 40k anymore so it should be minimal exposure for me.
>>
>>43854535

FW's Taros campaing has (or at least had in the old version; I'm not sure if they've kept the scenario missions in the updated version) a scenario revolving around an assassination of an Ethereal, which is pretty much like that. The Tau has severals squads of Firewarriors and the Ethereal, while the Imperial player has only one model but it's an Eversor Assassin.

In the storyline, the assassins succeeded in killing the Ethereal, although the mission was only a partial success as the other target he was supposed to kill, the Tau commander, was not present at the location at the time.

You do know that 40k has literally been designed to turn a profit for a publicly traded company, right? Every single piece of fluff, every model and every image has been created to get you to spend money. So does that mean that the entire universe doesn't exist in your imagination at all? Or is it just a section that vaguely reminds you of a sub-culture linked to people piloting robots? Why not crusade against every single Black Library book? Or fuck, why stop there? Go boycott Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars, or almost every single franchise humanity has every created. They all just want your money.

So if you want to take it out on a small section of a sci-fi universe because you think it makes you smarter than everyone else then go ahead, but then you might as well ignore the entire universe you fucking hypocrite.

Dual pistols on Jump troops is a SoB gimmick I thought?

Also the Sergeant, or at least I assume he's the Sergeant since there's no other distinct stand out dude, has a grenade launcher. Because that makes sense on assault troops.

I don't give one fuck, off the top I wish a Space Marine would try me
Real shit, y'all counterfeit, y'all Imperials bad business
That's why the game all fucked up
Fuck Glocks, I'm all about Fort Knox,
Ride through your neighborhood
Throwin' money out the window like what!
You about the dollar
(No, no, nothin' bout it)
Yo poor life been without
My life in the spotlight
Oh no no no, I ain't even got to talk about it, talk about it
Hol' up if you really bout it
Tell these Imperials we don't even wanna talk about it, what

I don't know everything
But one thing, one thing I do know
One thing, one thing I do know (I know, I know, I know)
Is one day I'ma have everything
It was all a dream
It was all a dream
I want it all

I pity Araghast. He has no support to keep him from getting knocked down, and his Gods have probably left him to die now. He can no longer boast now that he's backed into a corner. I wonder if he thinks pillaging those one thousand worlds is meaningless now. I hope he realizes what being a slave to darkness really means. He will die, just like the countless others the Chaos Gods have seduced, and be forgotten just like when those disposable tools died.

Any current rules/models for Saturnine pattern Terminators? Are they likely to get Horus Heresy attention at some point if not?

I like the idea of Terminators with enough dakka to justify giving up one of their close combat weapons, and storm bolters are not enough dakka. Pretty piddly really.

It's more that there's no good guys in 40k.
There's bad guys, worse guys and slightly less bad guys.

Tau, Eldar and some of Imperium, like the more noble Marine chapters, fall into the less bad guys, while Chaos and DE are worse guys. Most everybody else is a bad guy.

ebay, probably. One of my friends had bnch of old 40k models, including a few pauldronators that he sold off a while ago. I didn't manage to get any of the termies, but I did snag the guitar-playing noise marine as a present to a friend.
>>

Hmm... Fair enough if that's good tactics (Artificer Armour on regular marines? Man, I know nothing about 30k), though honestly I can't really identify one of these dudes as a clear sergeant.
>>
>>43853802
>if the warlord of the army takes this upgrade, they get "Psyker: Mastery Level 2" their melee weapon then gains the "Force" special rule

Firstly, you should specify that you can't give Force to Relics, I mean, Force "Burning Blade" sounds like the ultimate MC eater.

Secondly, I would change that to "If they Warlord of the army has Chapter Tactics: [INSERT NAME OF OC CHAPTER] then they may pay 25 points to become Psyker: Mastery Level 2 and may replace one of their weapons with a Force weapon."

That way, you can't have a Force Chainfist or Force Lightning Claw.

Something I have been wondering for a while, is it canonically possible to have Force guns? I mean, could you have, like, a Gunkata Librarian with twin Force Boltpistols or something?
>>
>>43857497

Yeah okay looking over this, the only good upgrades are:

Jump Packs,
Fancy radiation grenades,
Artificer Armour,
Arguably a power sword, which wouldn't give up the bonus attack the way a specialist weapon would and isn't as expensive.

The rocket launcher is nice, but too pricey and heavy so badly suited to an assault unit.

Are units pricey in general? 150 points seems a lot for pre-upgrades 5 regular tactical dudes with twin bolt pistols.

Also: What else is good for a Mortalis list? I kinda like the look of Alpha Legion, I think.

>>43854447
>the Imperium has its forces spread through the galaxy and is fighting enemies on all sides

The same can be said for every faction in 40k, with one glaring exception: the Tau.

All the various factions are beset on all sides by foes, and yet only the Tau get to effortlessly swat those foes aside and more or less be allowed to just do what they please.

And then there's the Tau's immunity to the laws of the galaxy. The Imperium had AI once upon a time. It nearly completely destroyed them. There's a good reason for that: Chaos. There's a reason the Adeptus Mechanicus is conservative as fuck; every time they try to outright invent something things go massively wrong. Even the Eldar and Necrons are still using the same tech they always have. Orks do invent new stuff but typically take massive casualties in the process, although they don't really care about that.

There's a constant theme in 40k: knowledge is dangerous. The Tau just don't get affected by that. They create millions of AI systems that never rebel. They find Chaos artifacts and suffer no ill effects whatsoever. They experiment with the Warp and instead of what should happen (Event Horizon) they just invent a new way of traveling.

Now that they have webway access I can't wait for them to be effortlessly blowing aside Harlequins and rebuilding the damaged sections of the webway that even the Eldar are scared to go into.
