So where exactly am I supposed to get this many demons to just dump on whichever setting I'm in?
>>
>>43789189
Would "Chrono Cross is canon" be a 0 CP drawback, or do people dislike what it did to the story enough that it would be a joke drawback that gives you eleventy-bajillion points?
>>
>>43789210
Chrono Cross does so much different with the story that it's really not even the same setting. You could probably do an entire separate jump for it.
>>
>>43789205
Okami's Demon Blood lets you create demons from your blood. Bloodborne is chock full of perks for doing wacky things with your blood. After that, it's just a matter of becoming sufficiently huge-DC, Pacific Rim, FF10 and FF12 are good starts
>>
>>43789210
Some people actually like Chrono Cross.

I like Chrono Cross.
I mean, I don't think it makes a good SEQUEL, and it's a flawed, PS1 Era jRPG wrought with confusion, but it's cool and fun and had some neat ideas. And I did genuinely like it.

It just has the misfortune of being attached to Chrono Trigger, which has a lot of expectations and a devout fanbase.
But, taken on its own merits, I think it's a really interesting game.

Anyway, I agree with: >>43789225
The settings are sufficiently different, and do things so extremely differently both in tone, setting, and mechanics, that they would be better served as two entirely separate jumps.

Still pretty pissed off about the Dream Devourer, though.
I mean, seriously, what the fuck was that, Square?
>>
>>43789342
I've only read the LP for Chrono Cross, and I sincerely enjoyed laughing at it.

The characters are absurdly quirky even by JRPG standards. Like the clown girl who's secretly a dragon goddess. Or the skeleton clown.
>>
I've been reading through the Light of Terra DLC and I've come across something that puzzles me.
The description of the Yeld Spyrer armor mentions laser tubes built into the gauntlets.
Now my question is to ask: What the hell is a laser tube?
>>
>>43789490
It's a tube that shoots lasers. Presumably some sort of resonant cavity like is used in some radar systems, only tuned for the visible spectrum instead of microwaves.
>>
>>43789225
>>43789342
I agree. I'm not planning on combining the two, although if I do a Chrono Cross Jump (which won't be until after Parasite Eve), I'll include a standard +0 "your actions carry over" drawback in CC. Well, probably more a "your actions carry over unless they've changed things so much that Chrono Cross is now impossible, in which case there will be an Angelus Errare that lets you travel to that version of the universe instead" +0 CP drawback.

>>43789210
Unfortunately, the fall of Guardia is canon and within the ten year period from 1000 to 1010. But you can feel free to pretend anything after that is non-canon.
>>
>>43789438
The LP does a really good job of showcasing all the things Chrono Cross does wrong. And believe me, there is a lot of shit Chrono Cross does wrong. It is a Flawed Game.
But there's also good number of things it does RIGHT.

For one, if you ask just about anyone who actually likes the game, the two things they're going to tell you right off the bat is that the game is atmospheric as all get out, and that it has an absolutely gorgeous soundtrack. They NAILED those two aspects. And it's sadly something that just can't shine through in a picture LP.
Walking through that world, there's a lot of places that I found myself wishing I could just BE, spending time there. Except the pirate ship. FUCK THAT PIRATE SHIP.

I also think that the story, sometimes despite itself, still holds together pretty well right up until you fight FATE.
After that the whole plot takes a hard left turn into Evangelion territory and never lets up on the fucking gas.
But until that point it does pretty okay.

About a year ago, a friend of mine had just recently come to the endgame of Trigger for the first time, and was excited to play the sequel. I prettymuch leapt on them to give them this same spiel.
Because it's really not the same game as Trigger, and I've always felt a little sad that people judge it so harshly based on that.
There is a lot to make fun of, but based on its own merits, taken by itself, I think it's a pretty good game.
>>

Spyrer Armor is on my list of things to reverse engineer once I get out of LoT. The shits crazy. Self sustaining, self repairing and it evolves along side its user. Shits crazy useful.
>>
>>43789490
>>43789536

Alternatively, it's a tube that fires tubular lasers with a hole in the middle.

Stylish and distinctive blast patterns for the discerning assassin.
>>
>>43789876

It's always a bit interesting how the design of 40k gear is so obviously influenced by the need for it to be possible to make for a miniature.
>>
>>43789968
What's the advantage of a tubular laser as opposed to a circular laser? It'll leave the exact same shape, except with a charred chunk in the center.

I'd much rather go for a deadly triangle beam myself.

>>43789968
>>43790042
Just looked it up. Seems to just be some sort of laser gauntlet. Maybe a fore arm mounted laser cannon? The armor evolves around you so it may vary.
>>
>>43790042

Pah, triangle beam scum.

Anyway, I can't think of any real advantage, it's possible that having a hollow space inside will enhance or improve the efficiency of the blasting effect of a laser pulse - but that's pulled right out of my ass.

>>43790086

Well yeah, I mean it's clearly a laser rod. You could call that a tube though, it's not necessarily wrong if the tube is full.
>>
>>43789667
I agree. I wouldn't be contemplating a Jump of the game if I didn't enjoy the hell out of it, despite all of its flaws. It's just kind of unfortunate that it tries to live up to Chrono Trigger instead of being its own separate entity.

Oh, and falling into the familiar trap of trying to tie up all the loose ends at the very end of the game, but running low on development time before the game is finished. And trying to tell an Eco-friendly fairy tale in a lush and colorful world where humans and human creations spent centuries restoring the pristine wilderness after it was almost wiped out by non-human activities.

Sorry, that last part always bugged the hell out of me.
>>
>>43790143
You'd think a rectangular shape would be most preferable, to maximise the surface area of the weapon's impact. It's already a concentrated ray of plasma, might as well zorch away
>>
>>43789667
I like Chrono Cross too. It's sad that the CT fanbase is such a hateful one.
>>
>>43790392
Why would you want to maximize surface area? You want to focus as much energy in one area as possible for greater penetration.

Even the regular Imperium Lasgun has enough punch to make craters in concrete. Eldar lasguns are even more powerful than that due to psychically grown crystals and more advanced technology. Just reason why they're flashlights is that lasguns are practically worthless as they don't have any armor penetration. They're really watered down versions of their Dark Age of Technology designs. Then again everything is.

Do jumpchains HAVE to start in Pokemon? I'm considering trying this out, but I know too little of pokemon to do anything with it.

If not, what would /jcg/ recommend as an alternate starting point?
>>
>>43793076
Ranma 1/2. It's a great way to get both a copycat style, which you could always use, and an at-will genderswap.
>>
>>43793076
I would suggest Harry Potter. Because it's a relatively low danger setting that won't get you killed unless you get involved in the main plot or stay in Britain.
>>
>>43793076
You don't have to start in Pokemon, but if you don't you can never go.
>>
>>43793076
I believe you can skip Pokemon but you can't take it afterwards. As for alternate starts, probably inFamous. Power level isn't ridiculously high, you get a free power, and the perks are great for all around beginner buffs.
>>
>>43793076
No, but most people agree that you can't do Pokemon if you don't do it first.
>>
>>43793215
>>43793221
>>43793223
Why is the consensus that you can only take it as your first? Is there something that you could break in the Pokemon world by having some other powers?
>>
>>43793250
Because QS, the man who made it and the entire concept, said so.
>>
>>43793273
Oh. Fair enough
>>
>>43793250
No.

Pokemon was the first jump and it's something the guy who started this all said at one point. Why he said it is some subject for debate and a lot of people don't really like the rule but it's not a big enough deal for people to get too upset about it. It's also as good a jump to start in as any.

I think the reasoning was that Pokemon explains the premise and explains that the jumpchain is a reward for completing it. This however doesn't hold water as you can still skip Pokemon meaning you skip both the explanation and the thing you supposedly had to do to get the rest.

Really you can ignore it and nobody'll get annoyed, just don't start crowing about it in thread.
>>
>>43793319
They'll get annoyed if you post about it in thread, so you're lying to him.
>>
>>43793357
>just don't start crowing about it in thread.
>They'll get annoyed if you post about it in thread

Good job disagreeing champ.
>>
>>43793415
Then why is it relevant to mention 'people won't get upset'?
>>
Does the Pokemon Rebreather allow you to breath in space?
>>
>>43793319
>>43793357
As far as I'm aware, people only get annoyed if you use the fact that you hit Pokemon late to do bullshit like catch an entire team of Legendaries and make them into Companions.

...which you can do anyway with Return, so whatever.
>>
>>43793447
It's based on what Misty used to breath underwater. A rebreather filters the water to make oxygen you can breath.
>>
>>43793250
Never worry about breaking anything in Jumpchain. Breaking worlds is some jumpers raison d'etre.
>>
>>43793486
The Jump says it allows you to breath in Toxic environments, so i asked.
>>
>>43793532
Space isn't toxic. It lacks air entirely.
>>
>>43793545
And even if you could breath, you'd probably get the Bends
>>
>>43793576
How would that even work? The bends require pressure differences in depths of water and how it reacts with nitrogen in the blood.
>>
>>43793545
Nevermind about breathing, think of the radiation poisoning
>>
>>43793679
No pressure in space. Oxygen and water will bubble and 'boil'.

I think we should just come to an agreement now that if it's ever discovered OAA is dead, we'll steal the computer from his next of kin and upload it ourselves. At this rate, it seems the more likely outcome than him ever getting decent internet.

Alternatively someone could buy him a USB and he can send it to one of his friends through the local library or McDonald's with free wifi.

Gentlemen, we're in a bit of a predicament. Earlier today on reviewing Light of Terra we found that a 51 does not, as we somehow initially though, equal Healing Hands. It in fact means "roll 1D6 Wyrd Powers", or 6 in our case.

The results-Float, Weapon Jinx, an extra Lucky Aura and uh...three consecutive Psychic Blade rolls. I wish I had the foresight to screencap the Dungeons & Dragons dice roller to prove it, because I can't quite believe it either.

To compound things further, we'd already rolled one Psychic blade so. Yeah

The question remains: What the blazes would Psychic BladeX4 be like?

VtR and VtM do quite a lot with blood magic, we think

Darkstalkers has blood magic too, with more shapeshifter stuff

Buffy can grant you mystical medicinal demon blood

Legend of Spyro's dragon supplement can turn all your body parts into potential magical reagents

You may or may not want to avoid the chaos origin in Webmage, which turns your blood into primordial chaos

Jump #01: Pokemon

Name: Diamond Paige.
Age: 16
Region: Orre
Gender: Male
Small Town (-50CP)
Actual Starter (Free)
- Torchik
Freerunning (-100CP)
Mechanic (-150CP)
Technician (-300CP)
Pokeglot (-600CP)

----Items & Equipment----
3X Master Balls (-100CP)
50K Pokedollars (-50CP)
Collapsible Baton (-100CP)
Medical Kit (-50CP)

----Flaws & Drawbacks----
Damned (+300CP)
Marked (+200CP)

First off, I immediately hightail it for Cresselia's Island so I can get Darkrai to fuck off. I expect this to take something like a year, mostly occupied by my first few encounters with Cipher and getting the money to travel by working as an adventuring mechanist and technician.

I expect I spend the next four years traveling, fending off Cipher, and evolving Blaze. (Yes, I am bad with names, how could you tell?) I might have also accidentally started more then a few gang wars during this time as well.

The next four years are spent in Hoenn, collecting rumours, sightings, and general hear say. My goal? Capturing Rayquaza, Groudon, and Kyogre.

The last year is spent going back to where it all started. By this point, Orre should have its own little league, which I will pretty much wreck. I also spend this year taking the fight to the crime empire that Cipher had become.

>I'm considering trying this out, but I know too little of pokemon to do anything with it.
I didn't know shit about it when I jumped it, and I still don't know about it some months and hundreds of jumps later.

For my build I just looked at the doc, and asked questions in thread. If your'e so inclined, you can do the same. My point is that you do not need to know anything about a setting to jump jump.
>>
>>43794352
Also there's a 40k jump that replaces your blood with razor blades/acid/whatever else. Dawn of war maybe?
>>
>>43794719
That's an interesting approach. I generally try to at least get a feel for a universe and its characters for a bit before I decide on my builds. Sometimes I find something really worth playing/watching/reading this way, which I think is a plus. Knowing the general power-levels for a world will really do you some good, you know? I'd have tried going with The Infinite from Bayonetta if I didn't check it out first.
>>
>>43794834
Eh? We don't have a Dawn of War jump but that does sound like a chaos mutation from Dogs of War

Last thread gave me the idea of making an US Abyssal fleet that would give Japanese shipgirls the maximum amount of salt.
>USS Enterprise (CV-6) Enterprise vs Japan. Guess who won.
>USS Washington (BB-56) Sank Kirishima in a 1v1, didn't take a single casualty throughout the war.
>USS Arizona (BB-39) Sunk and ready for revenge.
>USS Harder (SS-257) Ate DDs for breakfast.
>USS Sealion (SS-315) Sank Kongo while she was in a task group with Nagato, and Yamato.
>USS William D. Porter (DD-579) Say what you will but she was scarily good at anti-air.
>USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413) Everyone knows this one by now.
Funny thing is Enterprise and Arizona being Abyssals would probably turn public opinion against Japan since if those two are Abyssals then the rest of the Abyssals are probably US ships as well. Which explains why there's so many of them...

Anyway anyone know an US Cruisers that would make the Japanese salty?
>>
>>43794838
Well, jumps are supposed to be crafted in such a way that you can survive the vanilla, drawback free, jump with just what's offered in the jump. WIth some settings that's hard.

But as for the blind jumping, jumping somewhere you no nothing about, that's half the fun for me. I like the fish out of water, Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs court experience. Thinking about what I'd do in a jump after I've done my build makes it a bit more real for me, if that makes any sense.

Hey Jumpers, what do you use as a base for yourselves and your companions during your jumps and your off-time?

I'm thinking of getting the Tower Seed from Ar Tonelico, but that shit's expensive, since I didn't take the Origin Background. Thoughts?
>>
>>43794881
San Francisco and San Diego come to mind as the most decorated heavy and light cruiser respectively.
>>
>>43794861
Speaking of Dogs of War, how does the "race/class" thing for those work? Is it possible to buy more than one (of the sensible options, obviously; Blood Dragon and Knight Errant, say, rather than Orc and Skink, though Orc and Skeleton might work)? Do they come with attached lifetime memories, and if so, where's the drop-in option?
How does the companion import option even work? Do you just give them a race/class and none of its perks? Do they get the race/class and all the free perks for it? The latter seems like a better option, in that you don't end up with lizardmen having no issue with the cold, mages who can't cast, undead who... aren't, etc, but it kind of throws the whole thing with varying point costs out.

We use the Bhunivelse simulacrum from FF13-3 as a crib. Just chillax in our hovering technognostic command center with our companions, and throw things at the peasants when we get bored.

Took ages to adjust the spell in order to fit a hot tub, minibar and row of arcade machines on there, though.

The Onsen from Tenchi Muyo or the Hollow from Changeling. I keep small groups of companions, so we don't really need anything big.

The Metal Gear solid jump has an Oil Rig you can plop down if you need something huge, and the Light of Terra has both a Light of Terra and a Pre-emptive Retalitation for free. Neither are reality warping supermachines, though.

We live in a haven bag when traveling or starting out in a new world. Its a very nice sack, but its still a sack and space is quite limited. We considered changing to a more 'open' plan that would save some space since privacy is a long dead concept in a hive mind but decided against it for various reasons mostly related to where would we put our posters without the screens we used as walls?
>>
>>43795116
>but that shit's expensive, since I didn't take the Origin Background.
It's still cheaper than taking the background. Unless I'm misreading something, the advantage to the background is that you get a copy of the tower attached to the warehouse, where you can keep stuff between worlds, including fancier modifications to the tower than the seed can grow itself it seems.

Rebreathers aren't for filtering oxygen from water or the atmosphere, they are for literally rebreathing your breath, adding back the tiny amount of oxygen you use from a much smaller storage than something like a SCUBA tank. They're not what are used in pokemon, which might actually be a gill-like apparatus, but you wouldn't call that a rebreather. Since lot's of the things on the gear list aren't from pokemon, I'd assume it's what it says it is, not what's in the show. And yes, Rebreathers work in space.

Heavy cruisers Astoria, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Northampton, Pensacola, Portland, Vincennes and light cruiser Atlanta all took part in the battle of Midway, a loss for the Japanese.

Of those cruisers: Minneapolis sank the Takanami at a later date.
Pensacola & New Orleans bombarded Japanese land positions later in the war, Portland seems to have taken out the Mogami though that's not certain?, Vincennes used deck bombers to take part in the Doolittle raid, and the Atlanta sank the Akatsuki in a night attack.

Oh, and there's Bloody Curse from Valkyrie Profile. It does a lot of things. Here's the description:
>Bloody Curse (400 CP)(Discount Undead)
For creatures without any, the Undead seem to have quite an affinity for blood. You could just consume it for a weaker version of soul eating, but it has so many more uses. You can summon and manipulate it, use it to cast spells, or even cause it to explode. Because of its magical nature, this blood is much harder and sharper when solidified or put under high enough pressure than it has any right to, somehow equaling divine weapons in cutting power, and the energy its releases equal to that of magic. Flying sickles of blood, a quickly traced ritual circle, or an exploding geyser of blood are just a few uses of this power, and the inventive will discover many more.

We feel differently about that - those kinds of perks basically truncate your ability to experience a full range of emotions and staple sections of artificial personality responses over your own. It's dehumanizing.

>>43798324

CherryTree is basically just NotePad with nested tabs. OneNote has far more in-page utility, such as collapsible paragraphs, insertion of images or screengrabs from a jump and the extraction of the text from said images.

It's honestly not that bad. It should still remain banned of course, but it's pretty mild.

Unless you don't have defences against both mind-reading and mind-control, or at the very least the former. In which case it becomes rather the opposite. Legilimens and Obliviate get tossed around like candy in that setting. For example, Snape regularly uses the former on students and Gilderoy the latter, and they're supposedly respectable professors at a prestigious school.

Snape uses it in the basic way though which is more or less just knowing you're being lied to while looking them in the eye.

Lockhart attempts it once after someone discovers his big secret and tries to make him fight a basilisk.

Not really.
Legilamacy (or however the fuck it's spelled) is only used by three people that I'm aware of. The first two (Dumbledore and Snape) require eye contact, and even then there's only a couple of cases where they are shown to do so, and even THEN, they have to vocalize. The third case (Voldemort) is a special case as he has a direct root to his victim's head.

As for Obliviates, as long as you stay away from Lockhart (and really, you should be doing that anyway since he's a ponce) you're in the clear as it's only really used on Muggles.

As >>43798449 points out, there it is not a low risk area.

I think a better example of low risk, high reward would be something like Terminator.

Get a Series 800 or 1000 body and then pay (of you didn't roll) to be in 1980. You'll have 4 years to prepare to kill the Terminator and aid Sarah Conner and Kyle. You then end up with a cybernetic body that is immune to handguns and breaks steel doors all while passing as human.

>And this is bad why?

Humanity in the hardware and software sense is a precarious thing, of uncertain value. Humanity in the moral sense is subjective, and not limited to humans.

But abandoning yourself so frivolously, by picking options on a page, is not looking before you leap. If you want to expand your mind, remove out-dated ancestral instincts, become a digital intelligence, modify your emotional response to stimuli or your simulated neurotransmitter balances, that's perfectly fine and laudable.

I just feel it should be done with more thoughtfulness than just selecting an option on a page and assuming you understand the implications, because fiat. Even if you'd enjoy the person you become - even if you know that you can make yourself happy with it.

Of course, it's a matter of personal preference. I'd be fine with Desty Nova's form of immortality via mindstate copies, and some may be fine with large-scale and non-gradual replacements of core personality functions.

How would Ace Attorney work as a starting Jump?

Drop-in.

I'll Allow It.
Logic.
Objection!
Sidekick.
Civil Procedure.
Great Revival.

Attorney's badge.
Sharp Suits.
Office.
Wad of Cash.
Book of Law.

I have two of the most broken powers in the Ace Attorney world. Actual legal knowledge, and no obligation to use any of it. I didn't murder whoever the guy was that they found me in front of, and until my sidekick digs up some evidence I'm going to throw every statue and roadblock in the book at that guy who really wants to convict me. Your evidence? Technically inadmissible. My evidence? Blatantly inadmissible, but the judge will allow it. It'll be a hard fought battle full of blatant stalling and pushing I'll Allow It to the limit, but at the eleventh hour we'll come through with evidence that instantly turns the case on its head. Whether or not that direction will be a logical one remains to be seen, but after the actual killer is discovered I can start taking cases.
>>
>>43798505
>>43798541
Here's the thing though. You're not in the movie, which can only hire so many extras. You're in the world. It's not _just_ Snape and Gilderoy you have to watch out for, but an entire secret society of magicals with a rather medieval way of thinking.

Plus in about six to seven years there'll be a Wizarding War - in which Legilimens, Obliviates, Imperios and Avadras definitely will be thrown around - unless you can seriously derail the plot. And the scenario here is that it's your first jump, and all it takes is being in the wrong place at the wrong time once...
>>
>>43798183
I like starting in a series of jumps that allow me to hone mundane skills to beyond-mundane levels. lots of espionage, soldiery, swordplay, archery, and the like.

Then, when a jump takes away my magic, and my mental powers, I still have my foundation.

What are the notes for Assassin's Creed going on about when they say "Precursor Clones fielded by 2015."? Even by the end of Syndicate they haven't gotten a clone working. Is it just speculating?

Do the Pieces of Eden for a Companion's background count as background based? I ask since they have to spend at least half their points on background specific stuff before they can buy other stuff.

Fine Weapon could be a cane-sword, right? Would you have to be in Syndicate time to get it? I have a vague memory of someone in an Ezio game with a sword or dagger hidden in a cane. I'm probably going AC4 or Modern age but still want a Cane Sword.

When the jump mentions the Hidden Blade bracer can be bought twice, and they're free for assassin's, does that mean that assassin's can get two free, or do they have to pay for the second one? On that note I don't suppose they'll get the option for the modern day taser thing, or would I just have to make that myself?

Speaking of making things, with Enlightenment and the Mysterious Tablet could you make your own Pieces of Eden? If not what if you had Pieces to study and some reverse engineering perks? I only ask the second question because the item description turns the whole 'messing with these things is dangerous' thing up to eleven by making any attempt at disassembling them cause them to blow up, no matter how good you are. It'd be more accurate to say the slightest misstep would do that, since the Precursors presumably had no problems working with them; Abstergo were just messing with things too high above their tech level, while Jumpers can go way higher. (I think at least one explosion was actually intentional, though bigger than expected, as either an Assassin or just someone working against the Templars tried to destroy a Piece of Eden the Templars had.)
>>
>>43798959
Brilliant. You keep doing what you're doing there, you crazy rules lawyer you.

>>43799023
Or you could just use that as a pretext to blow the whistle on the whole medieval cabal shebang and point out why they're dangerous and need to be stopped. You can't Avadra an artillery strike.
>>
>>43799023
I highly recommend hitting up FFTA before Potter. Ribbon-Bearer is super-cheap immunity to Avada Kedavra and Imperio, and will help against most other curses even if it doesn't make you immune. You also pretty much can't die in FFTA unless you're an idiot, so it's super-low risk too.

Just don't take Marche to the Sea. Bad idea for your first Jump.
>>
>>43799023
Here's the other thing: The War? That's only relevant for three or four years at best, actually closer to two, if you allow the plot to play out the same.
And for 75% of the first three years, you're far away from the conflict in a building protected by Dumbledore. For the last year, it's easy to fly under the radar.
Furthermore, it's pretty well implied that ligament-ligil-fuck it, mind reading, is a rare-ish skill. So it's not like your average thug in Knockturn Alley is going to be able to divest you of your secrets. Obliviates are mostly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, since it's not a lose condition.
Imperious can be resisted with enough willpower.
As for AKs, well, don't get in that sort of situation and you'll be okay.

Of course, if you know enough about the books, you can always go to Dumble's and say "Look, Voldie's horcruxes are here, here, and here. This is going to happen next year, this is going to happen the next year, Voldie is going to resurrect himself, and so on.
Or find the graveyard in Little Hagleton and fuck with Riddle Senior's bones. That'll do...something.

Avada Kadavra, meet Automat Kalashnikov.
>>
>>43799110
But you can artillery strike an area that they aren't in anymore because some of them got smart and teleported out. You can also be made to hit your own people, or be unable to find where to strike without a magical person to find it for you.

>"Now whatever you do, don't stop running in a straight line, and keep shooting straight ahead. CHARGE!"
>"Yaaaah- oh wait I forgot to buy milk, back later."

Or:

>"Drop the bomb at these coordinates."
>"Gotcha, just gotta go turn off the oven at home first."

That said, if a magical (such as you) helps them... yeah, they'd get rolled, but you'd better have a way to stop them imperiousing the muggle military leaders and getting lots of people killed as revenge.
>>
>>43799158
Ribbon Bearer is nice, but how does it make you immune to AK and Imperio? Am I misreading it?

I definitely second the recommendation for FFTA as a fun low-risk jump if you don't take the drawback, though.

>Or find the graveyard in Little Hagleton and fuck with Riddle Senior's bones. That'll do...something.

I seem to recall there was at least one fanfic where they laced the bones with so many magical drugs that... well, Voldemort returned, but he spent the rest of eternity stoned out of his mind.
>>
>>43799212
Not that anon, but if I'm reading it correctly, Ribbon Bearer protects you from status effects. In Final Fantasy, Instant Death is a status effect. So, if there's a magical effect that would normally snuff out your life instantly with no chance of a saving throw, you're immune, because fuck your bullshit status overrides.

Even so, probably shouldn't sit there and tank green energy bolts. That's not the kind of thing you want to have slip through on a technicality.

So I, and I believe many other jumpers probably, thought the Orgel of Origins was an infinite energy generator. Apparently not. It converts space and matter from a specific point in the universe into energy, and if it is used extensively enough, will consume the entire universe. So, not the best choice for super-high energy production in universes you don't intend to destroy, but a nice recycling plan for ones you don't like.
>>

>>
>>43799704
Yeah, the thing is, that's a straight up retcon from how it worked before. It actually worked differently before Surge decided to change it. So the author has said you can just decide if that's canon or not.
>>
>>43799110
Thanks! In that case, have the full recount of what happened in that Jump.

I developed a reputation for being someone who can throw together a defense out of nothing, and people with outlandish cases start coming to me for a defense. They didn't kill anyone, it was an alien abduction! They couldn't have killed that person, their friend confessed to framing them in their sleep! In that weird way that happens in detective shows, my detective sidekick and I spend more time investigating what happened than the actual police. A few times we've found evidence that the person we were going to defend was actually guilty and declined to take the case, but more often than not they had been caught in some weird coincidence that framed them for murder. Part of me really enjoyed the way it resembled an alternate reality Psych, even though there was a lot of work involved to throw roadblocks in the way of the prosecution and perfect my grandstanding. I enrolled in a few public speaking classes and Shakespearean theater productions to really bring Denny Crane to tears.

At the end of the 10 years, I'd grandstanded against fake mob informants, serial killers, disgraced judges, and corrupt government employees who thankfully didn't know how pleading the fifth actually worked. Not only that, but I had a couple hundred thousand dollars in the bank and a detective who I could count on to run into the courtroom with a vital piece of evidence at the perfect time. Generally speaking, I was in a good position to continue.

Let's see. In FFTA, it nullifies all status ailments, while in FFTA2, it protects from all debuffs and adds 2 and 5 to the Defense and Resistance stats respectively.

So you'd be immune to... berserk, blind, charm, confuse, control, disable, doom, being turned into a frog, immobilize, instant death/knockout, delayed instant death/knockout, having your attacks or magic or resistances depowered, petrify, poison, silence, slow, being put to sleep, and zombification.

Probably not. AK is specifically there for instant kill, whereas Death Flies does damage on top of instant kill. You the same person who talked a thread or two back about making a Gauntlet of it?

'Cause I'd love it, and I'm not sure you got to see me saying so, since the thread died about a minute after I posted. Assuming you're that person.
>>
>>43799846
It's a Japanese comedy show. It's hilarious and famous in the West for "punishment games" like Silent Library.
>>
>>43800047
Remember that in the movies it blows giant chunks in the statues Dumbledore uses to block it. Your standard early-game Jumper is probably less durable than a statue.
>>
>>43800099
And yet it somehow doesn't explode Lily Potter into bloody fragments, or any other individual it hits for that matter.

That's exactly why! I have a lot of the batsu parts written or partly written, but I would really like to talk with someone who knows the show well and could help add references to the descriptions for things.

In HP I was a rich American-Briton. I also was a half-giant with Wandless Magic and Non-Verbal specialty. Mum was the giant, Dad was the rich Yank. Grew up in America, but moved back to UK at age of 10. Hogwarts was a better school according to my pops.

There's not that much to reference though to be honest, a lot of the things that Gaki no Tsukai brings up are often from Japanese daily culture. (If you saw Downtown's older skits a lot of it shows through, or Tokyo 03 - though you'll want to be able to understand Japanese for that.)

Especially in Gaki no Tsukai, a lot of the characters are especially important. Tanaka and Endou for example fit very specific roles in the characters that they play that are pretty common in manzai. You'd need to watch a lot of the episodes to see the recurrences though.

Without knowing what it is you're looking for it's hard to really describe without going into way too much detail. (Alternatively, if you're really interested in manzai culture, wikipedia isn't bad)

I typically live in my magical castle that I got from a jump (I forget which, Castlevania maybe) that grows from a single brick. Either that or I take one of the ships that I've acquired and live offplanet.

I'd say I'd live in the LoT, but I kinda stopped making jumps after that point because after that there's pretty much no way to lose until DBZ Jump, so I just declared it the last jump before then. I probably stole the plans for a Terran Battlecruiser at some point, so I'd probably live in a more spacious, automated version of that.
>>
>>43800229
Valid, but I think people might as well just say they're immune. It's not like you can't magic cancel AK anyways. Makes me wonder what Harry Potter would be like if a global magic cancelling field popped up.
>>
Does the perk "You...Blocked?" from 8-Bit Theatre jump require the use of a sword? Could you use a staff or a shield instead?

Also, I found the strip where Fighter blocks falling damage. For the entire party.
>>
>>43800219
Half blood obviously. Considering it's kinda difficult to be Muggleborn as a half-giant and that pureblood well the giant blood is proof enough.
>>
>>43800237
Van Helsing is the one with the grown buildings.

Man, I love-hate that jump. All the perks are awesome but the mere existence of those items means pretty much all of my CP goes into picking up at least one combo.

The Gauntlet is specifically going to be a 24 Hour No Laughing batsu game, and the "drawbacks" will be elements of the batsu that will be guaranteed to happen. Things like a long bus ride with stops for comedy skits, the Jumper and their companions's families showing up, GOD DAMN, and games of tag. What I want to reference are specific instances of those things happening, so the Gauntlet has the flavor of Gaki no Tsukai and people who haven't seen the show can laugh at the crazy things they're bringing on themselves.

It will admittedly be difficult to keep the references to manzai without the Jumper being accompanied by the entire cast, and if they don't know who anyone is they won't know why pic related is so funny. Actually taking the cast could be a free perk or drawback for people who know the show.
>>
>>43800491
Nope. There is a Supreme Commander jump, though.
>>
>>43800514
I'd kinda argue that as with all manzai, it's the characters that make it funny and not so much the circumstance. Tanaka getting fucked over everyday anyday is hilarious because of Tanaka's reactions and personal attitude to stuff.

I think though, you could probably just use youtube episodes to set up the specific scenes that you want to reference from, stuff that people can search up themselves if they want to figure it out. It's either that, or you go all out with explanations...but that's going to be a lot of work for you - so you need to sorta prepare yourself mentally as for "how much effort do I want to put into this"?

Depends on the god in question. Supernatural has Archangel blade & Mjolnir. Asura's Wrath has divine cyborg bodies. There's plenty of other settings that have god killing capabilities.
>>
>>43800606
I agree with you. The American version of Silent Library is much less fun than the original. Without the characters, a batsu game is just people getting punished in weird ways.

Using Youtube scenes is a good idea, but translated Gaki no Tsukai videos are being taken down lately. A mix of those two would be possible. I have the time to write a really detailed Jump, but if it's TL;DR nobody will play it. Do you have any advice on what information is essential?
>>
>>43800791
People will play it even if it's tl;dr, as long as it's coherent, there's consistency, and it isn't completely outlandish. Hell, XIV was 269 pages, and I have people that built for that, I doubt Gaki no Tsukai will get to that length.

If you're going to do a gauntlet, you need to set up the atmosphere. In a standard jump, it's a very tentative connection between the person making the choice and the consequences afterwards, since they have a higher level of free choice with what they can do. In a gauntlet, you need to engage them directly, and give them an incentive to engage in return. Without the former, people don't know why they're here, without the latter, they don't see a reason to stay.

Setting up the atmosphere helps with that, if there's an existing narrative, then people don't feel as lost to begin with, even though they might not understand the subject material. Give them a world, explain to them what they're doing in that world - could be that they're part of the actual show, or maybe this is a game show to entertain the Benefactor. The rest of the atmosphere depends on what kind of scenes you want to put in. Hot springs? A visit to the temple? Silent Academy?

Don't be afraid to use OC, but if you use OC (they're excellent crutches), give them character, borrow off of people in Gaki no Tsukai if you have to. If there's someone for the jumper to interact with, at least they're not thinking of everything for themselves.

I dunno, that's just my 2 cents anyways, take it as you will.

Idk how you would do Nids. They're not individuals, they're a hive mind. Even the Hive Tyrants aren't individuals. In the end every Tyranid gets to go back to being goo, except for the Nids that patrol the Hiveships.
>>
>>43802752
There actually is one tyrant who is an individual, and other tyrants have been stranded to the point of reverting to individuals before.

There's also whatever type Toby is. I forget the name, but Tyranids actually make them to function like normal animals with individual wills, feeding, and reproductive habits so they can serve as an advance force without any fleet support.
>>
>>43802772

Old One Eye, he's been on his own for so long.
>>
>>43802752
The same could be said the Zerg, from a certain point of view.
>>
>>43802859
Not really, many zerg just aren't sapient, those that are however are individuals, who's self is separate from the hive. They converse with one another, they don't blend into one. They aren't any more of a hive mind than the protoss really.

>>
>>43803040
Norn Queens can squabble with each other and are the ones to actually decide what evolves and what to produce, so they're individually sentient at least. Not the ships, they control those. Sapience is hard to determine with the Queens.
>>
>>43803048
Aren't Norn Queens... y'know. Massive, sentient and/or sapient vaginas?

Like, they literally don't do anything but decide how their hive fleet will evolve and all that nonsense, plus them giving birth to all the bugs?

Norn Queens are described as constantly pregnant and with external 'spawning pools' on their bodies forever squirming with larva.

They're not vaginas. They just have a bunch of them, and worse things besides.

As written, it seems to be based on Fighter's latent talent with Zodiac Kenshido and also his class change so-seems so. Stacking technique learning perks like Lore and martial arts proficiency perks like Adaptability might give you the insight to adapting it for other weapons, though. Or bare hands, in the case of our Kaleid Hero Stye.

>>43799075
IIRC there's one Precursor who sort of died but survived as an AI and has lots of biological clones of himself infiltrating the human race. They're the Sages. They're all modeled after the genetic template of one guy

Not sure what you mean by background based, but if they're from the appropriate background then yes, they ought to be discounted according to the latest update

Sure, and why would you?

Pay for the second, I think.

Both seem to imply only partial understanding. If those alone, you'd probably only be able to reconstruct technology partially based on the Pieces of Eden instead of bonafide Apples or Swords or whatever. Personally what we did was cooperate with one of the "surviving" Precursors' plans in exchange for filling in the blanks on our knowledge-and then tricked it into being disassembled as pure data by not explaining precisely how magic works when she was doublechecking the global forcefields.

Yep - that's optional, as others have mentioned. I wrote the Ar Tonelico jump independant of Surge details, that, IIRC were either untranslated at the time or had not been updated to the wiki.

So it's independant - I think there should be a note to that effect in the most recent file.

You *can* have the universal compression version, however there would be two things to mention in that situation:

The universal collapse only works because of Ar Tonelico wave-physics, and so in other universes even if it was fuelled by a black hole that would be extremely unlikely to have the same runaway effect. But if you want to destroy the universe, why not? It'd probably end the jump, and at any rate Oldwalkers can turn dimensions into shiny baubles.

And, of course, where does the black hole appear and what does it consume? Like most such perk-related machines and items, I would err on the side of minimal setting changes and just say it pulls the energy it uses from fiat-space.
>>
>>43803381
I know about the Sages, but the notes say the clones are fielded by 2015, which thus far is not the case. They have no working clones, and the Sages have been around for a long time.

The notes say companions have to spend at least half of their CP on perks from their background before they can buy other things, and I just want to make sure PoE's discounted for them count. I wouldn't feel the need to ask but there are some arbitrary restrictions on the Pieces that make me leery of assuming anything.

The Fine Weapon mentions it has to be appropriate to the timeline, and since they've thus far only appeared in Syndicate I want confirmation before assuming I can get one in Black Flag, or maybe the Modern Day.

Paying for the second seems to make sense, though I then wonder if it gets a discount. It's only 50CP difference but I'd like to spend that if I have it.

I think I'll have to wait to get an answer on making my own Pieces, but your plan makes sense. I can probably get some help from Minerva, especially if I set things in motion to remove Juno so the machine can be used safely. I also know where to get all except the shroud and maybe the Staff if I pop into Black Flag, though if I go Modern Day I lose track of a lot of them.

Thanks for your opinions ASA, hopefully the jumpmaker (I think it was Clover?) sees this.
>>
>>43803537
Another question for the jumpmaker, is the Too Old For This drawback just adding 30 years to your age and making you have to do everything important yourself, or do you actually become frail and easily banged up with the drawback overriding strength and durability perks?

I assume it's based on Ezio in Revelations but it seems to indicate age has taken a far greater toll on you than it did he.
>>
>>43803537
Hi.

Your arrival bumped up the schedule.

PoEs count. But you only get one. So if one gets one, you can't and another companion can't and vice versa.

Sure, why not.

You'd need time and experience with PoEs. I should fix that mention up, as Precursors didn't have these things go off willy nilly, so improper meddling would kaboom it.

>>43803613
Both. Age doesn't matter to some Jumpers, so I wanted to make it clear what it did.
>>
>>43803648
Right. That (the clones and making PoE's) makes me think I'll go with Black Flag so I can study as many of the Pieces as I can, in addition to being in my favourite AC game since Brotherhood. Thanks for that.

Ok, so I have to put up with being old and frail, while trying to be a pirate in the Caribbean. That'll be fun.

Yeah, I know we only get one, but I figure an Assassin with an Apple is just so fitting, so my Assassin Companion gets imported as an Assassin and gets an Apple.

Cane Sword! Wooo!

It would be nice for them to be extremely dangerous, rather than guaranteed explosions. Also, though it's not a Piece, the chest in Syndicate that holds the Shroud had some very powerful defenses, and I'll enjoy setting those up any time I need to defend somewhere.
