WHFB Warhammer Fantasy Battles: Trolling Edition

I have a friend that wants to run a WFRP campaign, but he didn't like the look of 3e. But I don't want to screw with the earlier edition's percentile. So, I have a few questions.

How's the 3rd edition? Does it really casualize it to a board game? Or just streamline it? Do you HAVE to buy all the components? Does it still play like a typical tabletop RPG, such as being able to use imagination to attempt anything? Or is it really restrictive? What he wants is the Warhammer feel, does this deliver?

If 3e isn't the way to go, would we HAVE to use an official Warhammer ruleset? Maybe there's another system that can give that dark fantasy and lethal feel and just port in the setting? Any recommendations if so?

How much 9th age have people played and whats the general consensus on the changes? Is it to much like 8th or has it got its own flavour?

I played one game only so far against my best mate.

So far so good. I liked it. My mate too which astonished me to no end as he likes to keep playing his over the top bullshit armies and thus doesn't take well to change.

If they get the external balance right it will be great, I think. I'm painting minis right now. First time in about a year or so. All because of 9th.

In WFRP, if you don't follow the refresh rate on actions (because it feels like an MMO) does it break the game?

I think I've come to be at peace with the fact that WHFB is no more and the new releases are not looking good to me either anymore.
It's liberating in a way. Even though about selling a bunch of the stuff I'm likely never gonna do anything with anyway.

But then there are these announcements about Specialist games coming back...
I'd definitely be down for a FW sponsored Mordheim/Necromunda/Inquisitor/Epic/Warmaster.

It's over-designed. To much emphasis on the big spiky monster design and absurdly built armour and less on building a distinct character profile. I mean, look at the original Archaon model, his pose is distinctive, illustrates his character and is relatively unique, where as his new model is pretty much another character on big monster thing that GW is pumping out by the bucket-load these days.

Why is there a hole in the sword?

You can see very clearly that several elements of the dragon have been constructed by copy-pasting chunks of other digital models together.

I'll stick with a recast Acheron on foot on top of a FW dragon if I want to put him on a dragon.

The digital sculpting does play a fairly noticeable part though.

They do copy paste or reuse mirrored stuff a lot.
Again though, it's in the way that you use it, not what you use it.
There are loads of other companies that get by without having to resort to that.

Working on a 9th age list to join my friends, think I've finally got an idea of the changes in this edition. Monster mounts suck dick, the devs hate mondo-kitted lords that AREN'T footsloggers, and for the most part everything seems relatively balanced.

Rate my list, bros.

9TH AGE DREAD ELVES:

Dark Master: Beast Commander, Raptor, Heavy Armor, Hardened Shield, Whip of subversion, Speed Potion - 165 (GENERAL, GOES WITH KNIGHTS)

Dark Master: BSB, Banner of Murder, Fleet Commander, Heavy Armor, Shield, Halberd. - 161 pts. (GOES WITH SPEARMEN)

Sorceress: Level 2, Dispel Scroll - 120 pts. (GOES WITH REPEATERS)

CORE:

5 Shadow Riders: RCBs, Shields - 110 pts.

14 Dark Repeaters - 154 pts.

30 Warriors: (Spears) Full command, Banner of Courage - 275 pts.

SPECIAL:

20 Executioners: Full Command, Banner of Speed - 305 pts.

9 Raptor Knights - 234 pts.

Dread Reaper: Repeating Shot - 75 pts.

Raptor Chariot - 100 pts.

I like the idea of a beastmaster commander both in fluff and in the crunch. There's gonna be a strike force of monsters, knights, and a chariot to terrorize and flank anything that gets in the way and with enhanced LD from being around my general, monsters will stick around. Medusa are powerful this edition and pair really well with a hydra to screw over enemy ld checks as well as if they both flank a unit it's as good as dead. The knights unit all together shits out 24 attacks in a turn, the raptors will have hatred, and my general with the whip can eat challenges all day long.

Standard spearbrick anvil with bsb, immune to fear/terror, and reroll 1's and 2's to wound for extra damage power.

Some magic to add to ranged power and possibly buffing.

Executioners are my only question here:

Should I use a brick of 20 executioners or sub in 20 Tower Guard?

Just bought her, to use as my Bretonnian Damsel...I never..ever liked the real Bretonnian damsel model.

I'm just starting up my Bret army and looking for a few custom/substituted pieces... Need a unit of Knights and lots of peasants

Thinking of starting up an Empire force
Flipped through the army book and noticed something
How come the Warrior priest is so cheap, when he has such amazing value
Maybe do something like stick one in a big old block of halberdiers or something along those lines

Isn't he like, 90 - 100 points? With worse stats than a Captain at half his points? And More expensive than a Wizard who has a wider versatility?

How do you figure he is cheap?

Does anyone know where to start with Warhammer fantasy lore? I love the lore of the setting and want to learn more of the world but have no idea where to start. Any recommendations?
