In the 41th millenia the Imperium of Man is at siege at all fronts. Losing and gaining terriotory happend daily. But the Imperium would collapse if it weren't for the Imperial Navy that binds all the planets together for the God Emperor.

You are the captain of one of the Emperors finest ships the Imperium can offer. What type of ship do you command?

>Emperor class battleship: Can have up to 8 squadrons of attack crafts in it's hangar bays. Has a few Lance batteries and other minor turrets and cannons.
>Retribution Class Battleship: Strong prow, main cannons are on it's broadside
>Apocalypse Class Battleship: Only has Lance and Nova cannons, is a bit harder to maneuver that most ships
>Oberon Battleship: Jack of all trades, master of none.

>3 votes for a ship is requered to have a ship

the quest will continue after you have chosen your ship

You are the captain of the Emperor class battleship the "Ceremite Star", a very old ship, built in the orbital docks of forge world Cognis.

The ship also has the following:
>300.000 souls on the ship
>250.000 of them are regular seamen/spacemen?
>50.000 of them are Naval armsmen who defends the ship from any (an hopefully) all potential boarders
>It has 8 full squadrons of attack crafts
>7 years of water, food and munitions
>5 main Lance batteries
>50 smaller flak turrets for close range/anti fighters
>Hull is 100%

The only thing missing is the amount of frigates.

There are 6 frigates in our fleet that provides us with additional support, supplies and firepower.

You are currently stationed in orbit over the hive world Assak and have been resupplied with people, food, water and munitions.

The astropath onboard the ship has picked up 3 distress signals from 3 planets not far away:
>Agri world Apel-Sin who is requesting aid due to incomming Ork ships
>Death World Terrabys's Jaw has an inquistor who is requesting ships to repel a tyranid splinter fleet from escaping the planet
>Shrine world Jyrka is requesting help in order to battle heretic ships in orbit

You decide to aid the Inquisitor, you give an order the fleet to set course to Terraby's Jaw. After a many hours of doing a quick jump in the warp you come across a single black and red coloured Retribution class battleship surrounded by 10 or so frigates in the same colour scheme.
You are getting rediation readings from the planetes surface, and you can see that these readings originate from the ship bombing the surface with it's shells and Nova cannons.
But as you approach you can see that many frigates are burning/crippled/destroyed.

What do you order your ship and the fleet to do?
>Hail the Inquisitors ship
>Position yourself on orbit and start to bomb the planet
>Hold position for now
>something else (write in)

I guess more like a hybrid one. The main ship "is" a character in a way, but you still have resources, a crew and other ships and frigates

>>
>>43727791

You hail the Inquisitors ship. He says his name is Lexus from the Ordo Xeno. He has been in orbit around this planet for 2 weeks now. Bombing shooting down bioships that comes from the planet. But now he is running thin on manpower and supplies. Lexus "asks" if you could assist his ships in destroying incomming bioships.

What is your response
>Yes or no
>>
>>43728174
Yes, of course
>>
>>43728174

>>
>>43728174

You order the fleet to bolster the Inquistors fleet and provide support.

*Ok this is how combat is going to work:
You have 2 action points, you can spend them on thing like: Fire main cannons, launch fighters, evade, retreat, etc
When shooting, you will have X amounts of shots, let's have a simple autocannon as an example. It fires 10d100 shots, and if it target a slow moving ship then it hits on 60 or less (I will modify these depending on the situation)
You can choose to use X amounts of availabe frigates to help your chances, becuase one frigate can increase any required dice value by 5 (unless a frigate is a target for an enemy or is unable to provide support of any kind
Do you guys got it? Any questions?

writing the encounter after this post, so it gives you time to ask questions about the combat system
>>
>>43728376
6 Launch squadrons to set up a cap.
Leave the other 2 to cycle through when cap squadrons need resupply

As your ship begins to send missiles and other kinds of bombs down to the surface your ships radar picks up 3 incomming lesser bioships, they could be a threat if the manage to latch onto the ship and release it's xeno abominations onto the ship.

The 3 bio ships have 10 HP each

What do you want to spend you actions points to do?
>Fire cannons (Hit chance of 50 with 5 d100). does 4 damage each
>Fire flack (Hit chance of 30 with 15 d100. Does 1 damage each)
>maneuver the ship (will decrease the bioships accuracy with 20)
>Launch fighters (roll 10 d100, on 40 and below you make a damage, but on a 80+ you lose a fighter. You have 8 squadrons to lanch, each of them has 10 fighters. Does half a damage each, unless on 5 or below, then it hits on a 3)
>Do nothing (saves an action point for the next round)
>>
>>43728627
>Launch fighters (roll 10 d100, on 40 and below you make a damage, but on a 80+ you lose a fighter. You have 8 squadrons to lanch, each of them has 10 fighters. Does half a damage each, unless on 5 or below, then it hits on a 3)
>maneuver the ship (will decrease the bioships accuracy with 20)
>>
Rolled 81, 48, 81, 51, 10 = 271 (5d100)

>>43728627
Fire the cannons and move the ship!
>>
Rolled 34, 40, 65, 1, 44, 50, 24, 51, 20, 44 = 373 (10d100)

Launch fighters
Maneuver the ship
>>
Rolled 55, 21, 97, 20, 28, 25, 91, 54, 48, 22, 85, 12, 42, 82, 36, 6, 49, 42, 40, 67 = 922 (20d100)

>>43728627
2 actions of
>Launch fighters (roll 10 d100, on 40 and below you make a damage, but on a 80+ you lose a fighter. You have 8 squadrons to lanch, each of them has 10 fighters. Does half a damage each, unless on 5 or below, then it hits on a 3)
>>
Rolled 60, 83, 26 = 169 (3d100)

>>43728647
>>43728694
You launch the fighters as you maneuver the ship. The ships made 6 damage on one of the bio ships

Now the bioships fire thier acid spores. They now hit on 20 and below due to the maneuver of the ship.
If they hit they lower the hull with 6% each
>>
>>43728757
all acid spores missed. Your turn 2 has now begun.

[I have also noticed a slight problem here. I didn't account for several people rolling simultaneously, any idea on how to fix this "who's rolls are chosen for the action" problem
>>
Rolled 78, 1, 55, 53, 85 = 272 (5d100)

>>43728804
Fire cannons and continue to maneuver
Also I would suggest going for the first rolls that are for the selected action.
>>
>>43728804
You could have everyone wait to roll after the vote is counted?

Anyway Manuever around some more and try to get some frigates to focus fire on one of the ships?
>>
>>43728804
best of 3 or roll yourself after action is selected.

>maneuver the ship (will decrease the bioships accuracy with 20)
>Fire cannons (Hit chance of 50 with 5 d100). does 4 damage each
>>
Im going with people rolling, and voting what best action(s) to take (from those that people have chosen to roll for and/or do
>>
Rolled 49, 32, 46, 47, 96 = 270 (5d100)

Ouch. Ok so in the meantime:

>>43727069

Carriers aren't king in BFG. In BFG, massed firepower is how you win, with attack craft playing an important secondary role.

Reasons: Fighters are too short-ranged relative to capital ships, have little combat endurance once engaged, aren't that much faster than their mother ships, and can be eliminated by a smart player using escorts and long-range gunnery.

That's not to say you can't play a carrier fleet in BFG. You can. But a pure guns fleet is perfectly competitive against one, and a mixed fleet can reliably beat either. And that's whether you balance your fleet by points or hulls.

That's why Mars battlecruisers and Dictator cruisers rock. You can have a gunnery-based battleship or battlecruiser lead a task force, with the carrier as the second biggest ship. Then fill out your fleet with a couple cruisers and some escort squadrons.

I have an emperor, but it's useful more because in addition to its launch bays it has murderous long range weapons battery firepower. Oberons are good in-universe for patrols and operating more or less alone; the flight bays replace the need for frigates and destroyers. But if I know there's a big fleet action coming, I'll take a Retribution.
>>
>>43731664
Actually fights are faster than ships and have theoretically infinite range until they are eliminated from attacking ordinance or shipping. Most ships are slow 20cm while fighters are 30cm and can turn on a dime
>>
>>43731488
Or maybe he just died.
