If a significant number of our men are supposedly Veterans of the Long War and our armour is supposed to consist of relics from long ago, how come virtually all of our men seem to use modified Aquila and Indomitus patterns? They weren't particularly common during the Heresy, having just entered production, and I'm fairly certain the Loyalists wouldn't supply us with new ones, so unless a vast majority of our armour is somehow stolen it seems unlikely we would use virtually identical equipment. Shouldn't there be more III, IV and V suits? And the Indomitus suits make even less sense, seeing as how what Terminator suits we do have are supposed to be ancient even by Space Marine standards and a prize everyone lusts after since we can barely make more, so why don't we have more Cataphractii and Tartaros suits? This is especially strange considering the Indomitus pattern was popularized by the Ultramarines after the Heresy, so we would already be in the Eye of Terror by the time it became the standard pattern. Even Warmaster Abaddon himself seems to wear an Indomitus pattern suit, which doesn't make any sense considering he's supposed to be wearing his Heresy era armour, which most certainly was of a different pattern entirely.

>so unless a vast majority of our armour is somehow stolen
that's the answer. Chaos marines have no real manufacturing capabilities to speak of, so they have to steal and scavenge from the loyalists.

>Indomitus pattern was popularized by the Ultramarines after the Heresy
that one's a retcon
>>
Inconsistency in 40k? well i'll be!
>>
>>43721186
>that's the answer. Chaos marines have no real manufacturing capabilities to speak of, so they have to steal and scavenge from the loyalists.
That is factually wrong. Warmachines of the Lost and the Damned makes it perfectly clear there are entire Hell Forges, not even just in the Eye of Terror, but outside of it too.

Also, why are there no beakies among the Traitor Legions? We know the Alpha Legion used Corvus Armour for a fact.
>>
>>43721169
actually most of the CSM armors are based on MK V, just highly ornate.
>>
>>43721169
Simply because a traitor marine managed to survive since heresy does not automatically mean his equipment from those times did, hence looting.
>>
>>43721225
>entire Hell Forges, not even just in the Eye of Terror, but outside of it too.

plus Dark Mechanicus.
also, let's not forget that during the Great Crusade explorator fleets were basically a host of warships and Mechanicum FACTORY SHIPS! there were even SHIPYARD SHIPS!

they could produce anything the crusade needed on the go, except for maybe capital ships, so producing armor wasn't a big deal if they had blueprints and the required facilities
>>
>>43721277
Wouldn't that make them more like Carcharodons, wearing mix-and-match patchwork armour? And if the Red Scorpions and Carcharodons can have ancient pre-Heresy suits, why can't the Traitor Legions who would presumably have a much larger store (as well as access to a lot of the original STCs)?
>>
>>43721225
Not something chaos forces have ready access to, mate. They're as, if not more reclusive than the mechanicus. Also, the warbands themselves are usually not sitting on forgemasters of their own, ignoring outliers like the iron warriors.

Chaos Marines being less supplied and maintenanced than their loyalist counterparts is classic. They make up for it by being more experienced and having daemonic shit.
>>
>Loyalists having ancient relics is usually explained by Warp shenanigans
>Chaos Codex literally says that for some of the Traitor Legions, it seems as if mere days have passed since the Heresy
>With three Loyalist Legions all but destroyed during the Dropsite Massacre, they presumably should have suffered a significant loss of Great Crusade materiel compared to the Traitors
>They get access to stuff lost for Loyalists, like the Kharybdis
>People still try to play it off like it makes perfect sense Loyalists should have more Great Crusade gear than the Traitors
>>
>>43721169

Because the overgods, the great geedubs... are cheap and just add stuff to the vanilla marine armour models
>>
Stop making this same thread over and over again, you shit lord.
>>
>>43721625
>you shit lord
Dude... Come on!
>>
>>43722025
>thread necromancy

Embarassing.
>>
>>43721225
Yeah, there are forges, but unlike admech these demand payment upfront, stealing from loyalists is easier.

As for AL, it has been suggested to use loyalist for these anyway, as they have limited exposure to warp and offen disguise as loyalists
>>
Why did they name the Leman Russ tank after the primarch of the Space Wolves, who while still kind of a cool guy is no, say, Rogal Dorn?
>>
>>43722440
Dorn is a faggot who almost tore the wounded Imperium apart because of his pride.
>>
>>43722274
>hanging out in threads you don't enjoy

Super-embarassing.
>>
>>43722712
As opposed to Russ, who basically refused even when Dorn realized he was being kind of a dick?
>>
>>43722440
the one who found the STC for the tank was called Leman and russ is basically a typo. it means rush.

compare to land raider and land speeder
>>
>>43721169
The answer is that the models don't match the lore. Many traitor marines still run around in relic armor- but GW only cares about representing the "modern" chaos space marine, basically some scrub chapter who went traitor in M38. This is why we don't have Legion Rules or even Legion gear. GW only cares about chucklefucks like the Crimson Slaughter or Flawless Host.

I always assumed that Veterans of the Long War were few in number but made up most of the Elite, however Renegade Chapters who co verted while wearing Aquila, or Marines who scavenged made up most of the Armies/Warbands.
>>
>>43725827
Logically speaking, the Traitors outnumbered the Loyalists by the end of the Heresy, considering three Loyalist Legions were all but wiped out (the Salamanders having less than a 1000 Marines left, for example), and the Warp fucks with time, so they should make up a fairly significant portion of Chaos Space Marines.
>>
>>43728176

>>43725770
>>
>>43721169
They can probably use warp fuckery to create it out of the blood of those who wore it and died to chaos. Or some bullshit.

>>43728176
The warp doesn't fuck with time, time simply isn't a valid factor in the warp, its basically like if the universe forgot to write down a number in the calculation of your travel time, freaked out at its own mistake, and then put in a random number that seemed "close enough". Which causes mass confusion but is usually close enough to what it should be that warp travel is reliableish.
>>
>>43728176
Actually,
a) Many of these died during infighting etc (remember Kharn?)
b) Even if the marine is still alive, armor and weapons do need maintenance, which, without spares is rather hard to do =>stealin new armor
c) It is known that the legions of old make new marines (Iron Warriors for example)
d) even if some old stuff still exist, why would they abstain from stealin and lootin?
>>
>>43728305
That seems an awful lot like the warp fucking with time, senpai
>>
>>43728305
Except for the times when you end up exiting earlier than you entered. Or spend a day in the Warp and emerge a thousand years later. It all depends on how deep you go. Most Imperial ships stay relatively shallow, because daemons. Once you're in the Eye of Terror, anything goes. The Chaos codex specifically mentions that to some Traitors, it's been like three weeks since they were chased into the Eye.
>>
>>43721186
>Chaos marines have no real manufacturing capabilities to speak of

They have.
>>
>>43725827
In the night lords novels its stated that there are over 12k night lords still alive in 40k. Broken down to warbands obvioulsy, but the NLs are one of the smaller Legions. based on that number, you can assume that there are easily 15-20k Word Bearers and iron Warriors each. Probably even more.

That would make Renegade Marines in the hundred thousands.
>>
>>43721169
Come to think of it, Indomitus gives a 5++ because of emprah fragment in shoulder plate

Why do CSM termies get that?
>>
>>43728796
Very minor Chaos boon...or sheer hardcore.
>>
>>43725578
This is false, unless they specifically went back and retconned the more. The leman was named for woof Russ.
>>
>>43728881
I'd rather want:
it is a fragment from emps armor
and looted for good use

HARHARHARHARHAR
>>
>>43728931
Why do chaps fags have the worst autism? At least Tau cunts are legible
>>
>>43728925
don't think they ever retconned that
It is said the space furries have some wolfbane powered leman russ battle tanks with heavy fangbolters and a dozerpawn
>>
>>43728953
because we also have the worst codex and everything cool has been taken from us and we are left with some sprues and models that are older than we are........

we need to delight in something
>>

GW just don't care enough to be consistent
