Those are robits. Also extremely heretical, and would bring so much of the hammer down on the Tau that it'd make The Scouring look like a scouting party as virtually every Chapter sends at least some forces to fuck up the Tau's day.

- Angst about something
- No stupid stereotypes

Pick one, when it comes to marines. Even guys like Star Phantoms and Space Sharks who are no nonsense or angst have tons of stereotypes.

>Shit like this is why I prefer Crimson Fists

Are you serious? Angst about being whittled down to a dozen guys. Angst against Orks. Angst against lost home. They also have the stupid fist and Mexican stereotype, and what they "do incredibly well" is fucking nuke themselves and get wrecked by orks.

Sure it would. Space Marines were born and bred to follow and have a sense of honor. Yet they follow an emperor they have never seen and hasn't lead in over 10k years.

Some Space Marines fight valiantly fight against some of their honorable Tau betters and notice how their ethereal leader is leading in the front by example. They immediately pledge support to the ethereal senpai. The Tau are obviously overjoyed to include such massive pauldron meatsheilds into their vanguard. All for the greater good.

>They immediately pledge support to the ethereal senpai.

Marines already rarely do this for humans, they're not going to do it to xenos whom they are literally brainwashed and conditioned to hate. It's like saying Farsight will become a permanent ork lover for the sake of the Greater Good.
>>

>>

The fuck are you talking about. Marines almost never ally with xenos, and the one time they did (BA Necrons) people threw a bitch fit. The most recent Tau codex is straight up marines vs. Tau.
>>
Pretty much any Imperial Fist successor. Seriously, they have all the coolest dudes. Black Templars, Executioners, Crimson Fists, Excoriators, Astral Knights, Invaders, they're all badasses.

Apart from the Soul Drinkers, because fuck the Soul Drinkers. Your Chapter Master sprouts fucking spider legs and you don't suspect that maybe Chaos had something to do with it?

>Carves the aquilla into every skull. Actually well played

>1/3rd of the way through a campaign, mission is to thunderhawk into a chemical weapon facility on a desert world, amidst miles of canyons
>Slaughter cultists and token Night Lords guarding the facility. Plan is to blow the facility up.
>Attempting to rig explosives. Space Wolf rolls 100. Burn fate, ask him to roll again. Rolls 97.
>Explain it will take 10 hours to rig the facility to blow. Enemy reinforcements from enemy Despoiler Class due in 2. Take a sample of bio-weapon and evacuate.
>Space Wolf says "You go, I'll try and fix the explosives."

>Mission plays out like 3rd level of Soviet Strike
>After spending 3 hours digging in, setting up traps, 6 marines prepare to defend a 3 mile industrial complex with multi-levels.
>They find an automated AA system to keep aircraft at bay
>Suddenly, rumbles from the canyons, as hundreds of traitor guard spill into view, riding rust covered chimeras and blood-painted russ tanks.
>When the regiment reaches the periphery, all hell breaks loose. Librarian lances a Leman Russ, Crimson Fist uses a looted Night Lord missile launcher to pop a Hellhound, the enemy advance over mines. Enemy fighters swoop overhead but the BS 25 automated turrets pop two of them. Space Wolf tactical, Black Shield and Imperial Fist counter attack, covered by Apothecary, Librarian, and Devestator. Group starts slamming meltabombs left right and centre. Hundreds of cultists swarm forward. Hellish mutant overlord arrives. Space Wolf punches his skull in.
>First wave defeated, but the group take some heavy wounds. 500 dead cultists/soldiers + 5 wrecked leman russ battle tanks, 2 destroyed fighters, 1 hellhound, 6 chimeras.
>>
>>43617468
Space Marines bowed before Necrons before, through Mindchackle scarps. Also a Grey Knight was kissed by a genestealer and fill under the control of the Hivemind. This means marines can be brainwashed into service of xenos.

>>43618678
>The most recent Tau codex is straight up marines vs. Tau.

And in a lot of the fluff it mentions the marines developing respect for the Tau they are fighting. Heck, the marines and Tau have shown each other kindness on the battlefield by sometime sparing each other.

>Apothecary studied chemical weapon. Finds something horrifying. Night Lords have found a way to engineer the Null trait into geneseed. Plans to create a shadow legion that will get behind Cadia, and cut it off from warp reinforcements in the 13th black crusade.
>Night Lords arrive on the planet dropping around the entire perimeter. AA fire silence by lance batteries from above.
>8 hours until the explosives are set
>Advanced party arrives, consisting of Raptors, Rhinos, Predators, Bikes
>Become that guy and decide they won't survive this
>Deathwatch retreats into the thicker parts of the industrial zone. Start to use sporadic firepower. Chip away a bike rider here, immobilise a rhino there.
>Night Lords establish a cordon but don't advance...
>12 dreadclaws slam into the heart of the complex, spilling out a mix of Night Lords, spawn, and chaos hounds
>It's on. As a team they move to wipe out the first pod, then the second. Night Lords regroup and come in after them. Hit and run.
>Squad of night lords runs around a corner, and get obliterated by an ambush from a point blank captured leman russ shell
>Librarian goes super nova with psychic powers, ripping spines and spleens out.
>Space Wolf and Dark Angel fighting back to back, dicks hard with machismo
>Night Lords dropping like flies to the most obscene dice rolling I've ever seen
>Suddenly becomes Expendables 3
>Insersion Force cut down to 50% strength calls in the perimeter force.
>150 Marines + Traitor Guard vs 6 utterly fucked and bleeding, ammo spent brothers
>Traitor Leman Russ bursts out the front of the complex, and takes out the lead Chaos Predator, driven by Dark Angel Apothecary and Space Wolf Tactical, who have torn out the seats

>Helldrake crashes into the middle of the advancing Night Lords
>Crowd parts and Major NPC Lieutenant, Krugax the Everstorm strides through his troops. BAMF with a hulking two handed, demonic maul
>Imperial Fist Assault Marine climbs to his feet, close to death. Former Feast of Blades finalist... he takes three steps toward him. >They roll initiative....
>Imperial Fist cuts his head clean off
>Night Lords are impressed... then open fire, cutting the Imperial Fist to ribbons.
>Joyriding Leman Russ sees it too late, and starts firing shots into the crowd of gathered Night Lords, before withdrawing back into the building.

>Growing impatient, he orders the Night Lords to begin one final thrust, with every cultist and traitor and mutant they have at the fore to soak up firepower.
>Meanwhile, he musters up his 7 terminators, dons his own terminator armour.
>The whole force of some 200 Night Lords charges the place, backed up by descending Raptors.
>I drop a message to the players that their strike cruiser can fly by and risk a teleport, but they need to reach the tallest tower on the facility before the enemy corner them
>.....they decline, and order the cruiser to bombard their position
>The enemy waves hit. They fire off a few shots, then retreat to the next room, then fire a few shots, then retreat to the next room. By now their bolters are heresy era chaos ones. >They have enough grenades to blow up a few rooms and set booby traps.
>The enemy close in from all directions, occupying 75% of the complex.
>The Black Shield World Eater gets jumped by a possessed uber lieutenant called Ebonisus. Almost gets killed but manages to trip off the booby traps in his building, taking them both out
>And then there were three
>Blood Angel Librarian senses an immense disturbance in the warp
>8 Terminators teleport into their midst. The supreme leader and his retinue have arrived.
>Sorcerer Lord Nemessiarion locks with Blood Angel Librarian Tabris.
>Space Wolf with plasma gun goes toe to toe with the terminators. He takes out two before a combi-melta burns his guts to ash. His last scream is to the Apothecary "My gene seed best not go back to the rock!"

>"Laughing at you... from high orbit."
>Night Lord com link goes wild "Incoming orbital bombardment. An Imperial Cruiser has just launched its full payload."
>"At the ship? Take evasive ma-"
>"At you, my lord."
>The Blood Angel Librarian smiles, then everything within 20 miles simply ceases to exist. At the cost of six brothers, they baited out a huge Night Lord force of over 250 marines + 5,000 chaff, and stopped a plan to besiege Cadia.

After having a lot of beers, and just sharing my UTTER FUCKING AWE at how amazing my players were with their dice rolls and their tactics, plus their amazing ability to stay in character, all I can say is my favourite chapter will always be the Space Wolves / Blood Angels / Imperial Fists / Crimson Fists / World Eaters / Dark Angels. I guess I just love the Deathwatch, and what a melting pot of emotions it can be. Some might play it as tension, with the Wolf hating the Dark Angel and vice versa, but in the chaos of battle they developed a friendship and trust. I guess that double-fail on the bombs had to happen for a reason. Chapters can be dull and cookie cutter, but the marines that make them can be amazing to explore, especially when taken away from the collective bubble of their comrades.

He may not have the best rules (In fact, i'd say he probably has the worst rules of any of the unique character chapter masters (only being above average in melee, no better than a standard Wolf Lords at range and having no army-wide benefits) But dammit, Grimnar is the best for 1 undeniable reason...

He has the greatest beard in the universe

Say what you like about him and the rest of the Space Wolves (Who are my first founding of choice) but that fact is undeniable and makes him one of the greatest.

Much like the Ultramarines were ruined by Ward not understanding what made them cool to begin with, I feel the Space Wolves (and to a lesser extent the Blood Angels) are going in the same direction. Back when I first started playing in 3rd edition, Space Wolves were awesome and just behind the Black Templars as my favorite Loyalists. Now they just feel... weird. There's so much goofy shit, and not in terms of Space Vikings awesome goofy, just really dumb. I want to go back to liking the Space Wolves, but they're making it really hard for me. Traitor, World Eaters because it is clear that Red goes faster. Night Lords because I geninuely like the idea behind using Fear as a weapon. Iron Warriors because muh anti-siege. and Thousand Suns because space magic all over the place.

Look man, even renegade marines, beholden to none but their own wishes, regard aliens as completely beneath them.

An enemy worthy of killing face-to-face, maybe. But nothing beyond that. It's part of their rather thorough indoctrination methods, and a set of values further reinforced over centuries of conflict.

When pitted against aliens, Chaos and Imperial Space Marines have quite similar views.

Inside a suit pretending to be a defender of the Imperium and creation of the Emperor, is a man who has betrayed his species, the Emperor and all that is holy.
It is Quadruple heresy.
So the suit itself resembles Astartes power armor, which is Heresy.
The Human inside betrayed the Imperium, which is Heresy.
The Human inside willingly serves Xeno masters, which is Heresy.
The Human inside is fighting against the Imperium, which is Heresy.
I could probably state more as well and any Marine or Inquisitor would have way more.

It is a damn good design choice because of how much it should piss off any member of the Imperium.

Iron Snakes are the closest you will get. For some reason GW focused more on the Roman/Byzantine than Greece. Minotaurs are more Spartan than Iron Snakes, so of the two, Iron Snakes usually gets relegated to "the Greek chapter".

Lexicanum. It is slower to be up to date, but it is much, much more reliable since they are so hard on the sources.
>>
>>43636436

Lexicanum is worthless. It doesn't even have 50% of the info that 40k wiki is. The amount of "false information" on 40k is vastly overblown. If you read everything on 40k wiki and everything on lexicanum, the amount of extra stuff that is legit you got from 40k wiki that isn't on Lexicanum would vastly outweigh the info from Lexicanum itself.
>>
>>43636500

Just as an example, go look up Carcharodons. I looked it up because you faggots love arguing about the so much. The 40k wiki is 100% accurate, last I checked, and I've read everything from their DW entry, to the judges short story, to Badab War 2.

Lexicanum ONLY has things from Badab War 2. It's missing the DW librarian info, the short story info, the IA2 campaigns, everything.
>>
>>43636500
Lexicaum is legit. Warhammerwiki is run by people with agendas who slide in fanfiction between the fluff to further their agenda.

Take the Miriael Sabathiel page for example that which is all sourceless garbage. Before people raised a fuse about it, the page had 4 citations to the CSM and sister codexes. When anons reviewed their sources and saw that the fluff isn't there. Warhammer wiki stealthy removed the false citation but kept the false fluff on the page.

The Brotherhood of Normant are an ancient Chapter of the Dark Angels and among the few that can lay claim to the honor of being forged in the Second Founding. They were a single Legion Chapter force (couple thousand dudes) that went into the North-Western part of the Halo Stars during the end of the Great Crusade and got stuck there during the Horus Heresy thanks to warp storms.

They made a brilliant last stand against an Ork WHAAAGH to defend a lone human world they had stumbled upon which upon reestablishing contact after the HH, claimed as their homeworld and christened Nourmaundie.

Due to living just at the limit of the Emperor's light/beyond it, warp travel takes a longer and the small empire the Brotherhood has carved out of sector is under constant attack by the trillions of Orks that surround them. Because of this they forsake the Codex and keep their old Crusade numbers of three thousand brothers. This force is in turn split into three groups, and cycles about the sector booting Orks off human territory and cleansing new planets to be colonized.

Culturally the Chapter is Anglo-Frankish, most of their founding members originally came from northern Franc on Terra and were raised on tales of the chivalrous conquests of the ancient kings of their people.

When they founded their new Chapter, they sought to bring those ideals into reality, and ten thousand years later the Chapter has sired a very successful feudal sector empire that has grown beyond the nurturing embrace of the Chapter into its own independent entity.

In war the Chapter specializes in mobility. Its Ravenwing Company is absolutely ginormous and split into three separate formations deployed across the sector wherever needed. In ten thousand years of endless warfare against the Orks, the Brotherhood has found that the most effective means of combating Orks is to slaughter their leadership in the opening engagement.

Con'td

The Chapter equips its Black Knights with power lances and sends them out to hunt down the enemy leadership like the dogs they are and spit them on their spears before the enemy knows what happened. They also favor the mass deployment of mechanized infantry whenever possible to further increase the mobility of the Chapter on the battlefield. The Orks specialize in attrition based warfare, so it's critical that you don't let the greenskin dig in.

Another deviation from the norm is in their recruitment of aspirants and how scouts are organized. The Brotherhood of Normant has no official scout company, and instead each Company has its own small collection of scouts. The scouts are assigned for various reasons, for Companies simply needing additional reinforcements in an upcoming campaign, or a Company Master wishing to educate some scouts on a nature of warfare his company specializes in (void combat, armor assaults, ravenwing bikes, etc). Regardless, numbers fluctuate and Scouts are commonly shuffled about the companies depending on needs or orders from the Grand Master.

Having realized I've only seen vertical and horizontal versions, has someone done a "diagonal" one, so to speak? Apologies if this sounds silly, I've never actually painted before
>>

I can't stand halved or quartered color schemes.

Nah bro, this team were fucking hardcore. Third campaign by that point.

First Campaign: Attacked a chaos-held city that played out like Strider 2014. They deep strike into the middle of the city's parliament building. They step out into the middle of the chamber, gunning into members of parliament and cabinet ministers, media crews, and enforcers. The governor however is absent, replaced with a decoy servitor. 6 Deathwatch Marines (Black Shield was replaced with Ultramarine Techmarine) fight their way out of an entire city filling with renegade troops + A squad of Thousand Sons.

Turns out the assassination was a ruse. They were sent in to buy an Inquisitor time to infiltrate the city and locate an Emperor's Tarot deck carved from the wraithbone of the infinity circuit stolen from Ulthwe. The deck allows the user 100% flawless study into the future.

Squad cripples the army, detonates the city power station, levels half the city, shuts down power for the rest, kills the Thousand Sons in the blast, then boards the Inquisitor's ship when they learn of the ruse.

Inquisitor deploys Eversor Assassin + his elite retinue to destroy them, and Ultramarine dies. They steer the ship into the planet, escape by shuttle, and drop it on the remainder of the Chaos city

Second Campaign took place on Armageddon, and some of the worst dice rolling ever occured.

Blood Angel Librarian meets Yarrick with others for briefing. Rolls Sag + 30 to see what he knows of Yarrick. Rolls 100.

"Who the Hell is commissar Yarrick?"
"Hero of armageddon?"
"He's an old man with Xenos tech. Out of my way you sack of meat and dust."

We decided the Librarian had once had a grey knight mindwipe, and this was the result. Same Librarian rolls 100 on a test to scry a gretchin's mind in a hostile slum. Full on psychic phenomena happens where the whole place becomes silent hill. Everybody but the imperial fist FAILED their willpower then rolled the maximum gain on Insanity.

Plot was that the Orks had built a mega gargant that was a walking stomper factory. It could destroy 100 leman russes with its weaponry, suck it into the belly through a traktor beam, then like a hen laying an egg, an hour later it would rise up from the ground on its two huge legs, and a fresh stompa would be built. Code Name Looticus Waaagh.

Group proceed to reinact The Raid as they get into the thing's base, and fight up through 80 floors of Ork infested hell to the core, activate the traktor beam but reverse the polarity. The machine proceeds to suck in its own body, and lays itself inside out, mangling everything within before detonating.

Yarrick presents them with medals, and the Deathwatch Librarian throws it aside

"Spare me your baubles, old man. I only respect real heroes of the Imperium"

Space Wolf apologises on his behalf.
>>
>>43667875

sorry, missed a bit. Highlight of the insanity was the Space Wolf vomiting into his own helmet, the crimson fist dropping his heavy bolter and running off, and the librarian dropping to his knees, crying how he'd doomed them all and the Sanguinius was an embarasment. The entire group took an oath on spilled blood NEVER to mention it again... though the Imperial Fist was like "I sure hope there's no grots" during the last stand against the Night Lords

Bring on The Purge! They have better chemical warfare than the fucking Death Guard, and they're the Nurgle worshippers compared to these anti-life motherfuckers!
>>
>>43668062
nah man, the Purge are pretty cool but Death Guard are all of best legion, best traitor and best antagonists. Capable of compassion, absolutely fucking horrifying, Typhus is top-tier, Mortarion has great rules in 30k almost making up for the travesty that was draigo's heart surgery, the list goes on. The Purge are cool but theyre not even the best Nurglites, much less best heretics.

>Typhus is top-tier
Typhus is dick. Maybe not Erebus-tier, but certainly up there in the realms of dickishness with the likes of Fabulous Bill.

I must admit I'm not really sure how good he is on the table 30 or 40k, but I've been wanting to do a chem heavy 30k DG army for a while.

As for that, IIRC, Morty killed a GK Master/Grandmaster, who Draigo was voted to replace by dint of being the most expendable for a suicide mission. The master, and then Draigo, had Morty's True Nameâ„¢, which is good for making demons explode, but is kind of a dangerous thing to share, hence only one guy at a time knowing it. Once he exploded (to reform in the warp in however many years), that was when the cardial graffiti occured

I took it upon myself to try to get my friends into 40k.

A bit at a time, they learned the rules.

The interesting part is that we played Only War, with their only source of information being the Imperial Infantryman's Primer.
They had about as much knowledge as your average world average guarsdman.

Thei first encounter with Orks was brutal.
>>
Looking at getting into some HH but still can't decide on a chapter. Pretty new to SM since I never touched them in my 40K days, did Black Templars exist pre-heresy and what was their colour scheme? I'm trying to get ideas off what Forgeworld has but it seems a bit limited.
>>
>>43639710
Just run them through the starter campaign, it can get fucking brutal.

>picked some heavy gunner
>first combat we're just marching up, taking out swathes of these human rebels
>they stand no chance
>suddenly GM tries to throw a curveball at us with a heavy gun emplacement in a building across this courtyard

First off, read the Lexicanum to know more.

Then, Templars existed to an extent. The Templars were the IF 1st Company, the best of the best. Forgeworld has a conversion kit for them, but bear in mind that they were veterans.

What you can do though is an army based on Terran veterans IF with some Templars, enabling you to use the Black/Dark grey plus Yellow color scheme.
>>
>>43668689
Oh right, I commonly forget about Lexicanum. Cool, will look into that more then.

Remember that they were part of the legion. On many of them you'll see the standard IF scheme with some signs, a stripe of black, a cross, the eagle and lightning bolts, sign of a terran unification war veteran or simply some black.

The French already did take over the World anon. A Saxon has not sat on the English throne since William I of Normandy. You seem to forget that all the wars between England and France were merely family feuds, quite literally in the case of the Hundred Year's War.
