Because TPB is a giant haystack, which is great in a sense, as everybody knows it and already uses it. But being that big also makes TPB a bit difficult to use depending on what you're looking for, plus depending on one site alone would be devastating if it we're to shut down permanently, better have lots of alternatives.

There's no evidence for it. People just tread carefully because after the original piratebay owners got sued, another company bought it and runs it.

No one knows what there intentions really are or how they managed to not be sued right after or since. It might not be malicious at all but with all the shit going on, people are being more careful.

At the end of the day, it's still widely used and definitely a good backup when you can't find what you're looking for in your usual places.

That sucks... other torrenting websites will come, the problem is that it's now near impossible to find something that isn't recent or popular.

Anyone here use rarbg? I've been using it since KAT was blasted. Definitely not as good but easy to use at least. I like how pictures are provided so you don't have to click on shady image hosters to see what you're downloading.

You don't need high speed for rendering text only websites and downloading 2KB torrent files. It's not like the site would have ads or HTML5. And you wouldn't torrent over tor, just search for torrents. So it's a great alternative.
Although I think something like GNUnet would be better since it's distributed which means sites won't die as long as there are people "seeding" them. So it kinda works like torrents. At least from what I understand.
