A lot of people shit on it, but as a fan of both the anime (season 2 promised later in 2017!) and the manga I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know... maybe their potatoes were undercooked or something.

Spoilers don't work here, so close your eyes if you don't want to read this.

The first movie covers to about the point where the good guys find out that Eren is a Titan-shifter. If you've watched the TV show, you know he's not the only one. Furthermore, if you've read the manga past the end of the first season of the TV show, you are probably also aware that there are others.

It takes a long time for the manga to move on to the climatic battle between Eren and the Armored Titan, so they had to skip over a lot of filler in the middle to do that for the second live-action film.

Ofcourse not. There are a shit ton of manga and a lot of adaptations, but weebs don't are about most of them. They want shounens, but those are only a part of the entire manga industry and just a really tiny part of those get good adaptations. I mean, have you ever heard of Childhood Days, Dragon Head or Solanin?

Just a warning to anyone who hasn't read the manga and only watched the anime or is currently watching it (I'll try not to spoil anything). The movies are different than the anime in both story and character design, and will have some spoilers especially the 2nd part as anime hasn't progressed far.

My critiques are that titans are animated poorly as seen in the final battle between the raging titan and all the normal ones, at the end of the first film. Other than that they're not so terrible (or at least I didn't notice it as much), it's just that that scene feels as cheap as those 20 yearold power rangers fight scenes. It's really miserable.
Character design was also poor, either that or actors were bad.

Don't get me wrong, I love AoT and adore the idea of a live action film. But, compared to the anime the movie is simply terrible. Even without comparing the movie with the anime, it's not that good. The characters aren't given any back stories making them feel shallow, insignificant and impossible to relate to or even like/hate them, and the story progresses too fast because of this. Feels like they left out a whole lot just to make the movies shorter. They could have easily made another part instead of skipping half the story (they didn't technically "skip" it as it's a different story, but it still feels too short).
The story is still good because it is based on AoT, but the movie itself isn't as good as some hardcore fans would like you to believe. If you want to enjoy watching AoT, I recommend sticking with the anime. The second season is finally arriving this year.

For which, anon? I downloaded the second part of Attack on Titan in the OP and it came complete with soft subs (that's what the ".srt" file is). Are you sure it's not a setup in your media player?

This, but subs on 2nd part are shit. So I downloaded another off a random site and they work, but have a 1 second delay. I just used MPV's subs offset key (X, I think) and matched it to the movie.

i'd say that the only good parts were the actual titan fights because they looked cool/good but even those were short and stupid

Just watched the first Parasyte, it is by far the best live action remake I have ever seen.
The CGI and how it follows the anime are perfect. The only thing I could say bad is that the acting at times is a bit shit, but that is me just looking for fault.
I have only watched the first on but I can't wait to watch the second.

These films were alright, The CGI is pretty poor at times and it's a very liberal interpretation of the original plot. I would say watch it but don't think of it as "Attack on Titan" think of it as a film inspired by Attack on Titan.
Also I'm an anime scrub and rarely read mangas, In the second film it goes beyond the first anime series, it may or may not contain spoilers. I don't know how accurate it is to the manga.
