This is only true if the source material was developed/produced at a higher resolution (hentai rarely is, because budget). That being said, blu-rays made from lower resolution material generally use a pretty hefty upscaler, so the end result still looks better than the equivalent DVD.

1080p + FLAC is a complete waste on this. Downloaded it as a test; it is only marginally better than the dvd rips.

This does not deserve anything more than 720p.
