He was most American's introduction to watching professional sports on television. Before that you had to actually get up off of your ass and physically go to the game in order to see it. He had a classic stentorian voice and rarely blew a call. He was quite witty too. If you doubt how good Cosell was look up his interview with Ali.

Provided bombastic commentary and gave insider insights in a way that hadn't really been done before him. At his peak in the late 80s and early 90s he was quite witty and funny. Well, your dad probably thought he was hilarious anyway. He was definitely on the air too long tho.

I don't know because imo he's terrible. He has the voice but he lets his biases come through way too much. Very unprofessional. It's sad when Troy Aikman is less biased about the iggles then the supposed pure broadcasting guy.

Because there is graphics all over the screen these days. Note that lack of even a basic scoring bug in this pic. Everything these days is done by graphics artists on the fly. The only place I've seen the telestrator used these days at all is /turnleft/.
