Why is sports betting illegal in the US?
>>
>>78238954
Because the government cannot properly tax it so they restricted it to places where they can regulate it and the jews can get their slice.
>>
Visit the average /bet/ thread and there's your answer.
>>
i thought it was, but not online

surely you can bet on horses at the track? is that not sports?
>>

It's surrealy how many betting shops I saw in London when I was there last month. What's the deal with that though? Can't you just bet online or are there old people who need to have physical tickets?
>>
>>78239172
>betting shops
what exactly is the point of these places now that you have online betting from your own house? aren't these places going to die out quickly?
>>
>>78239185
>Can't you just bet online or are there old people who need to have physical tickets?
Both. Plus the shops can stick up adverts for special odds to try and get people to wander in off the street who otherwise wouldn't use it online
>>
>>78239193
>>78239185
They're an anachronism and they're actually quite miserable places to visit these days. Just a few years ago they were somewhat comfy. I remember when you could smoke and chat with the regulars for a while. It was like a very expensive pub with no booze.

Now they're just miserable places for old degenerate addicts who smell of piss and don't know how to/are banned from using computers. The only reason that they're still in business is because British high streets are being decimated (by supermarkets and online retailers) so the rents are very low.

man, betting shops are one of the best money laundering machines, if not the best.
and london have a lot of dirty money from all the world. A LOT OF, literally astronomical numbers
>>
>>78238992
Why don't they make it like France ?

The only authorized gambling/betting operator are state owned.

Too communist perhaps.
>>
Because they don't want the population to be as degenerate as the Brits

This. Betting is degenerate. Of course mudslime countries would encourage it.

Why is tobacco so expensive and highly taxed in Europe?

Answer that question and you have the same answer
>>
The US government has no laws outlawing gambling, instead leaving it up to state and local governments to decide, as intended by our forefathers.

The problem is very few local municipalities want casinos or betting shops in their communities, as the increase in jobs and taxes and tourism they might bring in does not outweigh the increase in crime and other corrupting influences on the community. So very few local laws permit gambling.

Horse racing is different, you can go to the track and bet on horses no problem. They also have OTB's in places, which are like betting shops but only for the horse races. Don't know why that's different but it is. The racetrack near me also has poker and slot machines.

Americans, everyone
>>
>>78246592
You're not intelligent.
>>
>>78238992
this as soon as gov't figures out a good way to tax it it will become legal just like everything else just for that reason cause the gov't can't have enough of those tax dollars
>>
>>78238954
because at least alcohol keeps you docile, having people lose their money by losing money is a bad idea overall. also it adds much more chances for corruption amongst sports. We've had some scandals but nothing compared to say the Italians buying every ref in sight and players gambling on who has the first throw-in
>>
>>78246642

have you seen the degenerates that walk out of english bookie places

literal beings of cancer incarnate
>>
>>78248171
>at least alcohol keeps you docile
Lol what?
Literally the only reason alcohol isn't in the discussion is because of how disastrously prohibition went. Dumbass puritans still haven't learned that the lesson learned applies to other vices as well.
>>
>>78248209
Watch an English soccer stream, it's gambling commercials 24/7. They have shirt and even league sponsors that are gambling groups.
>>
I wish it was legal and widespread here. I already make money as is only going against people with the wherewithal to get in on the bet, if it was legalized and ubiquitous here like in the UK there would be loads of dumb money to snag.
>>
There are a lot of things wrong with American sports broadcasting, but one thing they get right is no ads for gambling.

It's honestly disgusting how pervasive gambling is now in sports broadcasting here; pregame odds, half time odds, ads for betting through the game, commentators mentioning odds, betting company logos on team jerseys and stands, and stadiums betting named after betting companies.

As fas as I know
>sports in Vegas
>horse tracks around the nation
>gambling in vegas, Atlantic City, other places
>online gambling increasing(Texas hold em, online poker type, no sports)

Any sports gambling online is technically illegal though many do it.

My state is NJ. Every year they vote on legalizing sports gambling and it always gets shut down.

Lol, so making money is degenerate? Isn't your entire country based on trying to make as much money as possible? I don't see how utilizing gambling skill to earn money makes one a degenerate.

You're confused buddy. Please go back to wage slaving and don't try to think too hard about things you don't understand.

Sharia law and I agree almost 100% about all forms of gambling

this is a common opinion in america
>>
>>78250240
Gambling is basically just accelerated capitalism
>>
>>78249813
It's illegal under federal law, with exceptions for horse racing, dog racing, jai alai, and whatever forms of sports gambling specific individual states had already legalized prior to 1992. That's why it's legal in Nevada but Jersey can't legalize it.
>>
Ironic isnt it

>The US government has no laws outlawing gambling, instead leaving it up to state and local governments to decide, as intended by our forefathers.

There's also the whole Native thing because reservations are an exception to some laws or something. That's why that stereotype is totally accurate.

How does betting works in Football?
You obviously need to get more than the winner right, otherwise all the betts would be 50/50.
But if you guess everything "almost" right, like if you bett that the score would be 1-1 but the match end up being 2-2 (this does not slip) how much would you win?
>>
>>78250397
What in the fuck does this even mean?
Of course you don't win anything if you predict 1-1 and the match finished 2-2.
>>
>>78250455
You got the tie right.
>>
>>78239185
There's a law that says you can only have 4 of those fixed odds betting terminals per shop, so they get round it by having loads of shops fucking everywhere. They don't care about sports betting in shops anymore they just want addicts to play their rigged roulette etc.
>>
>>78250465
Most football matches have different markets. You can bet on the result (w/l/d) or the score exactly, and then even deeper markets like.. first half goals etc.. the odds are determined by people working for the bookmaker, designed to be slightly less (lookup vig for more info) that the actual real expected chance of that result happening. For instance if you could bet on a coin flip it wouldnt be 1/1 for heads and 1/1 for tails it would be something like 9/10 for heads and 9/10 for tails, if that makes sense.
>>
>>78250397
Given a match between two teams A and B, with A as the favorite:

You can bet on the outcome of the match - Team A wins, Team B wins, draw; you can bet double chance - Team A wins or draw, Team B wins or draw; you can bet a goal handicap - Team A wins by more than X number of goals, or Team A fails to win by more than X number of goals; you can bet on which team scores first, which team scores last, whether both teams will score, which team "wins" the first half, whether there will be a sending off, the exact final score of the game, the exact final score of each half, and a plethora of other specific possible occurrences in any major match.

There are variations/specifics to most of these bets, and the odds are almost never evenly weighed between both (or all) possible outcomes. As you can see, there's no shortage of things to bet on, and that's not even taking live betting into account.

Because the goverment doesn't get its cut out of a perfectly legitimate private party to private party transaction, and they're really isn't a good way to keep track of that for income and property tax purposes. Seriously, our government is retarded.

Lottery tickets are legal because they're a government run activity.
