why do i always get BTFO by teams on the bottom of the table? Ipswich had won 2 matches in 29 before this one

is there something in the game that makes your team implode vs last placed teams?
>>
>>78233770
you'll probably do fine just within UK/ireland, but if you do send scouts outside, you could try focusing on (somewhat) low-rep eastern european EU nations like bulgaria, hungary, slovakia, and maybe czech rep and romania if you have a little more cash. check their u19 and u21 national teams, especially for unattached players. chances are your scouts won't find much on their own, but there's usually few bargains to be found, generally young regens.
germany and france have loads of players, so you might want to send your scouts there, although finding someone really good who'd be willing to go down to that level on low wages is less likely

>mfw AI managers who are inexplicably good at keeping ball possession no matter their team

I can still beat them but if my attackers have been struggling to score lately then it can be a torturous experience. I have to exhaust my players via extra pressing and it'll risk a late-game fade while they're okay with taking a draw.

Vincenzo Montella always does this, but otherwise there's usually at least one manager in any league who also does it.

But that's what the actual end result is: preventing individuals (or states in PSG's case) to invest more than they earn. I prefer France's DNCG 2bh.

>>
i pose a question to the audience

what's the point in players like neymar having £200m or higher release clauses when La Liga is just going to bitch and moan about FFP when someone actually pays them? surely it defeats the purpose of requiring a release clause to register players within the league if they actively don't want them to be triggered?
>>
>>78237578
>Isn't it supposed to prevent clubs that are running at a large debt to overspend?
It's supposed to keep the big clubs big. That's that. UEFA doesn't care about fucking Leeds or any other club that went bankrupt

>>78237673
> when La Liga is just going to bitch and moan about FFP when someone actually pays them?
They only bitched because Neymar's a big name (muh marketing, TV money, etc) and he's moving to a competitor
>>
>>78237673
The point was to prevent people from paying them indeed unless they have absurd amounts of money, which is why Barça and Leliga whine when PSG just did that. Spain should be glad: with the number of clubs that are in debt they have, if they had to go through French DNCG they'd barely have 10 clubs in the top division.

>surely it defeats the purpose of requiring a release
It's obligatory in Spain. They have to have a release clause. In France, you actually can't have a release clause; but I don't remember if it's a thing in FM.
>>
>>78237673
Spanish law requires every worker to be able to buy out his contract as far as I remember

I'll walk you through my favorite way of playing Football Manager 2007.

Ok so there's a lot to cover here so I'll start by saying that yes, I have previously played a game where I used cheats to get trillions of pounds and a stadium with 250,000 seats, yes I have played a team from the Conference South and had them promoted to League Two, yes I've played in the MLS, the Bundesliga, the Premier League, Championship and League One. I've won the SPL with Celtic and turned them into a world-class team. I've played briefly in the A-League (Australia) and I've managed the New Zealand Men's National Team and turned them from a group of obscure amateurs (Rory Fallon aside) into a team of professional footballers playing for teams across Europe. I've done all this and yet...and yes I return always to Barcelona. Now I know what you're thinking: "Oh, because that's *so* hard right?" and I'll just smile and play along before I suddenly adopt a more serious facial expression because, guys, playtime's over. Anyway so what I was trying to tell you before you started giggling and being sarcastic is that I don't purchase any players while managing Barcelona. Nobody? Nope. Not even a youth signing? No way. I rely on my academy to provide 100% of all players I use once the initial players have retired or moved on. I do this while of course trying to remain La Liga champions and strong contenders in the various cups both domestic and international, and also keeping Barcelona B in the LIGA BBVA. It's a great challenge and I recommend it to everyone who still plays FM07 (Football Manager 2007). It forces you to properly tutor and nurture young talent, deciding who gets loaned out and where and which players to emulate and pass on useful skills and traits.

i swear i want to die right now, but i cant, presumably because i wasnt born yet, there is no other possibility. im still stuck in the womb of my mother, or rather in the rectum of my mother, yes, i will be born through the anus, the true portal of the body, nothing else makes sense. but not yet, maybe i will always be stuck in the anus, yes, i think so. this must be true, i feel it. i want to be born, just to be able to commit suicide because of this fucking game.

why is this ref such a moron? doesnt he and his >assistant know how the offside rule works? why did bosz choose to play toljan instead of zagadou? im at a loss here. this is the proof why god is not just, experiencing this game is like reading the book of job, god does not give a shit about the world, he literally does not care. hes playing more games like my ex. and i have to suffer, again. and again and again.

sorry for blogposting and drunkposting /trb/. kill me. or ban me, i dont care, autistic janitor, do it, for the better of us all. this is not a world worth living. its an unheated hell.

i have a pretty good idea about how you could start the text about the problems of modern football. i feel the key to understanding the topic lies in the idea of heroism. for me the greatest moment of football in the recent years was zidane's red card in the wc 06. zidane acts here like a true hero - he headbutts materazzi without any reason (completely rejecting logic). its a pure act of fate. watching zidane go down the stairs into the tunnel to the changing rooms after getting sent off is like watching icarus descent into the sea and drowning after flying too close to the sun.

icarus, like zidane, is of course a hero, pushing the boundaries, acting out of pure force of will. icarus dies, zidane gets send off and loses the wc final. but they were both for one brief moment bigger than the game itself. icarus rejected the natural law imposed by the sun and zidane rejected the rules of football. i dont think a moment like this is possible today. it has been impossible to be a hero in the western world for the past 70 years, heroism had been restricted to sports. now it seems heroes are not allowed to exist even in sports. messi is not a hero, ronaldo is certainly not a hero. neymar is the absolute opposite of a hero. the only active player with heroic characteristics is suarez, but he's more animal than human i feel.

this idea, of course, still needs a lot of development. i start wagecucking again in october so i need to taper off the drugs a bit, but maybe i can write a good take on it. a shame im not a native english speaker, my german prose is so much better than my english prose.
>>
>>78248260
>so i need to taper off the drugs a bit
oh so you were on drugs, that's why

but nibba i unironically like the way you think and express your thoughts on this shit site

about heroism, has it really been restricted to sports? there's a lot of heroism in war, for what i know (nothing), that 99% of the times ends with the death of the soldier (i swear i'm not thinking of vidyas saying this), it even sounds like someone who kills himself in order to benefit their land (or their masterplan, like isis) is a hero

what i said above could be completely wrong so bully me if that's the case

>about heroism, has it really been restricted to sports? there's a lot of heroism in war, for what i know (nothing), that 99% of the times ends with the death of the soldier
war is of course the natural place for heroism to occur (though, paradoxically, often amond those who reject the war. the true heroes during ww2 were the resistance in france, the resistenza in italy and the partisans in the balkans - those who never wanted war, who never wanted to become heroes in the first place), other possibilities are countries with regressive governments etc.. thats why i wrote that heroism has died in the western world - it is impossible to be a hero nowadays in europe/the us. there are vertainly traditional heroes in china, in africa and in asia, unknown to the public eye (what makes them even more heroic of course). its even inconceivable how a hero in the western world would look like. in sports you do have the ref as an omnipotent dictator. sports are never just, thats why the possiblity of heroism exists. in the bundesliga we have video assistance for the refs now, this completely destroys this possiblity and im very sad that no one recognizes this.

only the evil, only injustice makes heroism possible.

>>
Vladimir Sudar - Previously in the Third Swedish Division, Highlight of his career previously being a single season in Sweden's top division.
Edu Paya - On Loan from CD Leganes in the Segunda Division B, that's the highest he had ever played previously. Started in Atleticos youth team, moved to Real's youth team but couldn't even cut it at Castilla.
David Valencia - Colombian player who had been without a team since 2016 prior to signing in the summer of 2019. Actually decent and has another 4 years or so in him. No idea how he was without a club. IRL, doesnt even have a wikipedia page (in any language).
Kiki - Really solid young defender that Sporting let go for free. He played well in their reserve team, although that and half a season in Morocco is the extent of his professional career.
Joel Keller - German born Swiss, the 24 year old had played for St. Pauli reserves and Basel u21.
Eddie Oseni - Actual name Waheed Akanni Oseni, can play anywhere in the middle. Been with us since 2016 and only improved as the team rose through the leagues. Previous experience in Nigeria, Israel, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.
Aitor Castro - Been with the team since 2016, clearly out of his depth in La Liga. Still playing ok, just no longer the explosive creative powerhouse in midfield that he was in 2017.
Xeka - Actual name Miguel Angelo da Silva Rocha, this is his second year with Palencia. Previous experience includes an awful few years in Portugals second league.
Ramon - At least has Ramon in his actual name, been with the team since 2017. Previous experience includes 14 appearances over 3 years in Brazils third and fourth leagues.
Farley - Previously released from Sporting and then exposed in Ukraine, Brazil, Cyprus, Greece, and then again in Brazil, he's come on to play alright in La Liga with 3 goals from 11 appearances.
Nemanja Radonjic - Bought by Roma at 16, he went on to make no appearances for them. Also has 3 goals in 11 appearances in La Liga.
>>
>>78250016
André Hainault - (rightful) captain, leader, legend. Successful in countless countries' club football, and only embarrassed himself for his national team a few times. A vibrant personality and rock-solid defender who is essentially carrying his teammates to success.

Here I would like to express a lament for fullbacks under canadian managers. They're left all lonesome on their flanks and when a winger is running at them with the ball, there's nothing they can do: if they close him down, the winger just passes the ball onto an overlapping fullback, leaving the defending fullback for dead. If they stand the winger off, he cuts inside and creates a chance. At the end of the match, they're close to tears and sometimes even suicide.

Pic related, it's a fullback forced to play wingerless tactics.

Anyone else done the "loan back for __ months" clause? Managing in Peru so any decent players I get hold of are imminently a target for European clubs, and pic related had an enforced release clause that was easily triggered by Porto but I managed to get 50% of future profit and 12 months loaned back. Seems perfect to me, I get to use him for my first foray into Copa Liberdatores, but I'm wondering if this may have any flaws.

So I >>78254142 was right... What the fuck is wrong with Poland? It's the most backwards place in Europe these days

I never play outside of England but sometimes I think I should, after the initial first season in the PL which is a struggle you then have so much money and can spend £100 million per season if you sell some players as well. So the challenge basically ends there. I'd imagine that in the other big European leagues it would be pretty fun for a while which so much less money for the other clubs but still a few teams that have loads of money.
>>
>>78254478
Don't chat shit about Poland, m8. I was there last year and met only very nice people.

i played a RC strausburg alace save in last year's game. got promoted to ligue 2, became professional, won ligue 2, hung around a few seasons, and eventually won ligue 1.
I had to grind results against everyone, losing to PSG, and letting PSG choke in other games.
but that was it, i couldn't win in the CL
i got outspent so bad by bayern, RM/Barca and the english clubs, it was frustrating
The main benefit of managing outside of england is the work permit situation. I could buy tons of young hues and argentines
>>
>>78254524
I like the idea of a comfy french save, but I know it'd take a few years just to get rid of all the nogs. Too much effort.

Alright, what does flair even do? I mean, I assume it helps with dribbling. But lets say a player has 20 flair and 5 dribbling, what does it do then? As far as I can tell, it just makes players with shit long shots occasionally score a really aesthetic long shot.
>>
>>78255873
Tendency for the unpredictable. It's a bit of a luxury attribute but it can be the difference between an average attacker and a prolific attacker but its only absolutely vital for world class attackers. It's mostly good with: finishing, passing, and dribbling.

My main title rivals have dropped £2m on this clown (my most expensive signing was £250k and that won't be topped for a while yet) who can't shoot, can't pass, can't defend, has the mentlels of an Englishman, and has just one natural position which is the most useless position in the game.
>>
>>78255853
>that could be true
it is definitely true, i am not creative enough to make up a story about someone autistically screeching at me for suggesting that a microwave meal wasn't quite finished when it had been in for half (0.5) of the required time specified by the packaging

i had to tuck into a cold lasagne that your lovely mother had purchased for me specifically because of how much i loved her homemade one and you ruined it by forcing me to eat it cold, shrieking "NO, IT'S FINE, WHY WE GOTTA DO EVERYTHING YOUR WAY???" as i stepped towards the microwave with the intention to ensure your wonderful mothers efforts were not in vain...

i still get sad sometimes thinking about it

But we're doing a bit better,we actually won against Anderlecht too.
>>
So I've taken Sheffield FC from level 8 to the Championship in 15 seasons. But sadly missed out on promotion to the PL via the play offs in our last two seasons.

We have a national(3 star) reputation and our facilities are slowly getting there, we're currently at:
Adequate training facilities (upgrade to Average in progress)
Below average youth facilities
Youth level at 4
Average youth coaching
Average youth recruitment

HoYD has: 15 WwY, 20 JPA, 20 JPP but only has a balanced personality.

Finances are ok thanks to forced player sales but our 2,500 capacity stadium is holding us back.

How long until we start getting decent youth intakes? What should I focus on upgrading first in order to help us develop academy players?

Because FM insist you triple every position. So it means three GKs, and teams with two strikers upfront will have four, five or even six options... even if they only play two of them perhaps three. IF they play one upfront, they will obviously have three strikers and the third one will inevitably and always be Unhappy.

You should just buy all the best players from the Championship. They'll definitely want to play for such a big (lel) team and will work their asses off, and you won't have to spend that much.

It's probably better than what you have now, anyway.

you cannot just "choose" to support a different team. i thought everyone outside of the us gets this (but judging from the other answers, probably not). choosing to support a different team would be like choosing to believe in god if you are an atheist or choosing to like the taste of apples if you never liked them before. it's impossible.

you are stuck with arsenal, the only thing you can do is try to carry your fate with dignity. remember that also losers can be heroes (and maybe only losers). as lucan says: the victorious cause pleases the gods, but that of the vanquished pleases cato. and cato is of course a stoic hero in this case. in every failure there is a heroic moment. this is the thing arsenal supporters have to hang onto and look out for. winning is sadly not an option anymore.

Lock that motherfucker in on your first offer, I never had anyone decline a contract just because of that. They always try to remove it, but I usually lock it in straight away, especially for my best players. Once they have 4-5 years left on their contract, they usually stop throwing hissy fits for every transfer offer.

It's one of the things making FM unrealistic as fuck, unless you're unlucky and get a greedy chairman (and don't use the "asking price exploit"), you can keep your best players for way too long.

Like many things in FM it's realistic for the AI teams, but not for the human players since they play much better. The AI rarely manages to keep players too good for their team for very long, but as human it's very easy to do.

Same goes for scouting players and developing youngsters. The AI gets failry realistic numbers but for humans it's easy to get impossibly good results.

Absolutely.

Surprised by how low his technicals are though. I guess this is where FM17 gets the "randomly prolific striker with average technicals" blip from. I had an Italian youth product who scored double figures and then 31 goals before he was 23, but then his goals seemed to run out - which made sense because his attributes were not as good as his goals suggested. I sold him two years later to a Championship side.

How do I play murderball, /trb/? FA Cup replay coming up. Do I just go 5 at the back, 3 BWMs, AM + poacher and play direct?

It's Manure, there isn't a lot you can do. If they play a 4-2-3-1, Close Down the CMs and tackle hard, shove onto weaker foot. Hard Tackling but no Closing down and Tight Marking on the Wingers and Full Backs. Close D
oOwn and Tight Mark the AMC and ST, but don't tackle them hard as you could give away penalties that way. Shoving a ST onto its weaker foot makes no sense unless they're creators.

Does anyone change the main focus of general training much? Other than 'very high fitness' in early pre-season, I normally only use 'average' or 'low balanced' (depending on fixture congestion.) My strikers have been incredibly wasteful of late so I was thinking of changing to an 'attacking' training focus but idk how much good this'll do.

I do team cohesion when a lot of new signings have come in, but thats about it. Though as far as I can tell, it makes very little difference.

all it does is change the priority for the development of attributes

fitness training doesn't make them more fit it just focuses more PA on acc/pac/stam/natfit/str etc

I do fitness in preseason to help players maintain any declining physicals after the long break.

Don't even know what to say at this point. Strongly considering leaving for whatever club offers me a job next.

Fucking kek. 5 2 2 1, defensive, very rigid, hard tackling, deep line, narrow and full time wasting. Closing down Thiago. Thank you Saint Allardyce.
