everything that could go wrong did

They moved stadium right before the TV money exploded. So they were forced to pay off denbts while the increase in revenue caused player prices to inflate drastically. If they had held off the move (not that anyone could have predicted what would happen), they would have been able to finance the move a lot easier and be able to keep hold of their best players.
