Is your country a football country?
>>
>Scotland
>>
>>78056408
not really
>>
Yes, more than it should.
>>
>>78056585
This isn't exactly really true tho.
We're not a football country, we're a club mentality country.
Much worse.
>>
>>78056408
It looks like money is also a factor. Don't buy that football is a bigger deal in norway than it is here
>>
Because in Iceland and Norway it is more or less for free to go to games
>>
Yes our season starts in 3 days
>>
>>78056884
And ends 2 months later
>>
That only shows that some leagues are bigger than they should be (Iceland, Norway, Scotland), despite being quite insignificant already, due to low population.
Some are just right (Portugal, Spain, Germany), considering their population-- although spanish and german stadiums are mostly filled, and portuguese are mostly empty
And some could be much bigger (France, Italy, Turkey, Russia), but aren't for some odd reason.
>>
N.Ireland domestic football is basically sectarian amatuer shit

I'm here for a good time not a long time bruv
>>
>>78056408
Considering how filled Scottish stadiums are, the football is pretty shit
>>
>>78056914
it's pretty simple for us
workers don't go anymore because they can't afford it
upper-middle class and families don't go because it's dangerous (ultras groups are still pretty much dominant)
rich people don't go because they are not interested in the sport

add to that the state of our stadia (old, shit view, uncomfortable and difficult to reach), and you can understand why they are empty
>>
watching it on the couch is comfier

those who go to the stadiums are the cucks whose wives doesn't want the husband to use the tv for the football match

Same with their international support. Most of their fans seem to think that attending "Northern" Ireland games makes them a legitimate nation.

There is alot of middle class bandwagoners who don't understand the national team has been a bigoted club for years but in some way thats improved their image. Even I'll admit I don't give a shit about the politics when it comes to the national team anymore and just accept it for what it is

Wales is a Rugby nation
>>

Ireland and Wales have rugby (and gaelic football for the former)
France and Poland are, but they have pretty big secondary sports (handball, volleyball and basketball mostly)

evetyone in ireland is a pathetic gloryhunting man utd or liverpool customer.

they dont care about their domestic leagues
>>
>>78058155
Ireland and Wales have tinpot leagues with tiny stadiums, Swansea & Cardiff aren't enough to carry the average. Also a lot of Irish attend Man Utd, Liverpool and Celtic games instead.

France's attendances aren't bad, I think they're 5th in Europe, just a chart like this favours countries with low populations. Dunno about Poland.
>>
>>78058362
>statistic skewed towards countries with a low population

how is it skewed towards smaller population country?
>>
>>78058405
I assume it only takes into account attndance figures of the top two leagues.
That number is capped by the amount of seats in all the stadiums combined.
That means it's impossible to get above a certain threshold, one which will be lower the more people live in your country.
>>
>>78058397
Why the fuck should we care about the Irish soccer league? The standard is absolute shit and the atmosphere isn't even welcoming for casuals at all, lots of fucking knackers attend those matches.
>>
>>78058405
Because countries with larger populations are restricted by stadium sizes. Look at Spurs for example, 70k average attendance at Wembley compared their 35k capacity at WHL. West Ham 56k at the Olympic stadium compared to 30 odd thousand at Upton Park

>>
>>78058434
well maybe if you sad fucking clowns stopepd gloryhunting biritsh teams and put your money into local teams it wouldn't be as bad a standard obviously.

no reason why it couldn't be a similar standard to the scottish league or other small leageus in europe
>>
>>78058434
Neck yourself. Football is a source of local pride, it's not a TV show
>>
>>78058467
The Irish literally built the city of Liverpool. All of their achievements are ours to claim. Just like Boston in the US. Deal with it la.
>>
>>78058488
gloryhunting nonce
>>
We have the shittiest league in EU, easily.
Our teams are punching bags in european competitions.
Every weekend, I see the top 3 goals scored in the league and my eyes bleed.
We should not be giving football a second thought, but it's all a lot of people care about.

Meanwhile, in basketball, we've had a top NT for almost 2 decades, we've had historic players play in our league, we've had 2 teams dominate in the Euroleague and nobody gives a shit.
>>
we watch and play multiple sports, not only football. we are a football nation just because we are good at it, not because we care

It's better to be a mid-level team in a global sport than a top team in a sport fewer than 10 countries give a shit about.
>>
>>78058527
You're struggling to qualify for the world cup mate. Your team outside of the attackers is England tier.
>>
>>78058550
by what metric is liverpool the second biggest club in europe? Also, success is not synonymous with glory.
>>
>>78058580
the attack is our worst part m8, we scored 15 goals in 15 games. only bolivia scored less goals than us

>>78058600
continental titles
>>
>>78058563
But we're not mid level, we're shit tier.
>>
>>78058393
lel, Scottish football apart from Celtic is abhorrent. autbundes has been hovering around the 15th place in the UEFA coefficient for years now, while the Premiership hasn't broken into the top 20 in the last 3 years. Even Cyprus, Israel or Azerbaijan have done better.

It's fucking disgraceful, just how shit Scottish clubs are, considering how fanatic people are about the sport there.
>>
>>78058360
>France and Poland are, but they have pretty big secondary sports (handball, volleyball and basketball mostly)
Nobody watch those either m8.
Shit, here you can buy a ticket for the volleyball playoffs final of 1st league, 2nd league, and 1st league women, all in one day, for 15€.
>>
>>78058524
This, unfortunately.

>>
>>78058926
How else are you supposed to determine the quality of a league if not through the coefficient? That's what it's designed to do. Celtic are a good team, they'd be title contenders in most European leagues, but the quality in depth is just not there. And don't start with "muh Rangers still need time to recover". What matters is the present, and all I'm seeing is one quality team and a whole lot of shit.
>>
>>78058700
>lel, Scottish football apart from Celtic is abhorrent. autbundes has been hovering around the 15th place in the UEFA coefficient for years now, while the Premiership hasn't broken into the top 20 in the last 3 years

yes because Rangers got relegated for 4 years you idiot.

Scotland were ranked between 9-13 between 2002 and 2008 and ahead of Austria every year until 2012, the year Rangers died.

scotland wil be back above Austria when Rangers recover

Seems too high. Footbal became so unpopular that central TV channels refuse to show even Spartak-CSKA derby.
>>
>>78056408
Most impressive here is England, considering they've a far bigger population than Norway, the Netherlands, and Scotland

what a retarded methodology. makes germany look like a middling country when the bundes has by far the most average attendance of any football league

>>
>>78056408
Fcking kek how can u expect Russia with so big of a population, same as Turkey and Germany, to have big attendance based on population. I mean for real scums. The bigger the country the harder for some to be close to a domestic league football team's stadium. This is not taking many factors and is full of flaws.
They should check how many people attend based on a 30km radius population zone AND seats of each stadium. Im pretty sure more flaws will be found.
>>
huh? that can't be right...

stadiums are atleast half-empty every game here
>>
nope, average attendance is lower than italy's.
>>

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediterranean_Basketball_Association
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTB_United_League
Not even talking about Euroleague

International tension is what the minnow leagues really need. Imagine, every game the top team of your country plays is essentially recieving international status. That's like a year long CL second qualifying round.
Like who the fuck wants to watch Romanian club #2143 with skinhead supporters vs. Romanian Club #2034 with antifa supporters?
>>78057245
I go to the stadium if the games are free (pretty much always, lol) and if it's near my home
You'd be surprised to learn the reason: Taking a walk and looking at distant objects for two hours instead of the pc screen is healthy.
I didn't even consider going to the stadium before I got concerned with the health of my eyes

Rugby is big in France and their domestic league, the Top 14, is regarded as the best in the Northern Hemisphere.

Some of their biggest rugby clubs are actually bigger than some Ligue 1 clubs I believe.
