I remember 94 but didn't really watch it. 98 was the first I properly watched. Euro 96 was still fresh in everybody's memories and I had no other experience to compare it to so I was convinced >we were going to go one better and at least get to the final this time. How disappointed I was. Euro 96 is still a great memory no matter how I look at it, but everything since then has ended in abject misery and disappointment.

2002 was really got me hooked on watching football

2002, because of the timezone the games were literally at crazy times like 2-3 am, so everyone would go to bed at like 7-8 pm and wake up in the middle of the night to watch the games. And the final, oh man, we had barbecues and fireworks at 4 am on a monday, it was a national holiday and we had like a week off from school (I lived near the capital of hueland, so we got some extra days off to go to the reception of the champions in Brasilia, then later that week Lúcio, who is from the same hood as I, went there to visit, so we got another day off and he signed my shirt, those were the days). Also, back then Ronaldo was still called Ronaldinho and everyone wanted to get his haircut, but only one kid in my housing project managed to convince his mom, he immediately became the coolest kid in the hood.

yeh, WC in Russia will have almost the same time zone
>>
for example, it's 5:50am here
>>
>>78035597
Aren't all the host cities in European Russia? It wouldn't be that extreme time difference, just 6 hours or so
>>
>>78035612
>>78035629
Its 23:53 here, considering the hours of broadcast of the russian league and the confed cup, the games will probably be between 7 am-1 pm (which I like, because it means we'll probably get the day off for the brazil games). Also, do other countries also have days off when the NT plays at the world cup, or is it a phenomenon exclusively based on brazilian laziness?
>>
>>78035668
Looking up the Wiki it seems matches in the WC will be played between 1 and 9 PM (MSK) / 7 AM to 3 PM (BRT)

And yes, nearly all of them have days off during FIFA dates, it's just our archaic CBF who has only adjusted our calendar to them recently.
>>
>>78035629
yes, few of them have another time zone I guess, but mostly it's Moscow time
>>78035668
your next game vs Columbia will be in 23:30 Moscow time
>Also, do other countries also have days off when the NT plays at the world cup, or is it a phenomenon exclusively based on brazilian laziness?
lol, we don't have, but our team is shit and it's unpleasant to watch anyway
>>
My first football memory is watching Baggio missing that penalty in 94. I dont remember anything of that world cup, besides that. And the first one i watched fully was 98. I remember cheering for Croatia after we got BTFO by Brasil. By far the best i watched. Worst 2006, because the levels of the teams was pathetic. Brasil 2002, Spain 2010 or Germany 2014 would have steamrolled the competition if they played that cup.
>>
>>78035804
Thats not what I meant with days off, m8, I mean days off as in "not going to work/school when Brazil is playing at the WC".

The best defensive midfielder of this era (and in history) was Deschamps. I'll take him over Davids any day. It's when he retired that France stopped winning. Even peaking Zidane, Vieira and Makelele were not enough to compensate for this loss.
Also, Zidane was good, but not as good as he would become starting the 00's, I wouldn't take him. And if I'd take Blanc over Desailly in defense, though you could probably find better than those 2.
Carlos was a meme. I'll never understand why he's so hyped and rated.

Faintly remember watching the final in 98.

Watched some games in 2002 but kickoff times mostly collided with school.

Been following religiously since 2006 and the 4 weeks of World Cup every four years are currently the only thing I look forward to in life.

Can hardly remember anything from 98 so I'd say Trezeguet scoring the golden goal in EURO 2000 is my first memory of great football

2014.
I think it was a very good WC, better than euro 2012 for sure. But I hope next year's WC will be at least as good as last one and that Portugal do a bit better, of course.
>>
2002. First World Cup game I saw was the France vs Senegal match

The first actual "world cup match" I saw was the 1999 USA vs China women's World Cup Final (the match in which that dyke Brandi Chastain took her shirt off)

Just a note: your country is the only one who takes women's football seriously, most of the world doesn't even knows when the Womens World Cup happens

1990... I remember the semi-final games vividly
>>
Vague memories of 90 (Cameroon, Gazza, the final) but barely knew the rules, clear memories of 94 though

1994 memories, probably got some of this wrong
>Football in america pls be serious they don't even have a league
>No England, France or Portugal
>Celine Dion
>Seemed like baking hot sun all the fucking time
>refs in dodgy kits
>Group A - Colombia expected to walk it and be a major force with Asprilla, Valderrama, Freddy Rincon
>Actually Romania look far classier with Hagi, Dumitrescu, Popescu all outstanding
>Switzerland randomly beat them though and qualify
>dem USA kits
>Escobar own goal, gets shot
Group B
>Piece of piss for Brazil, Rai touted as being one to watch but does nothing. Look solid though.
>Sweden great with Brolin-Dahlin partnership and based Ravelli
>Cameroon the wild card, Milla scores again
>Get destroyed by Oleg Salenko
Group C
>Germany in easy group with Spain clear second
>How the fuck are Bolivia and South Korea in a world cup?
>Germany squeeze through opener 1-0 while Spain fucking draw against SK before natural order rights itself
>Group D
>Mad group with Maradona actually really good still, clearly on drugs though and gets banned after 2 games
>Gabigol elite
>Nigeria look a breakthrough side
>that goal celebration in the net (Amokachi?)
>Bulgaria redeem themselves against Maradonaless Argies who drop to 3rd but qualify
>Greece absolutely BTFO scored 0 conceded 10
Group E
>Group of Death
>Italy squad absolutely GOAT on paper
>other teams all equal, goes to the wire with all teams on 4 points but actually a boring group with few goals
>Dennis Irwin getting booked for pulling his socks up
>Group F
>Netherlands and Belgium should be clearly way above Morocco and Saudi
>Saudi upset Belgium with amazing Owairan solo goal
>Dutch not so great without Van Basten
>>
98. Cried when Brazil post
>>
Proper autismoed this
Second Round
>Leonardo elbow, hosts eliminated by Brazil
>Argies kicked out by based Romania
>Jack's Irish dream ends
>Italy only scrape through vs Nigeria AET
>Mexico in charge of penalties

Quarter Finals
>draw looks lopsided - Italy beat Spain, Baggio bailing them out late again
>Brazil 3-2 Holland, great second half
>Letchkov diving header, old guard Germany are out
>Poor Romania out on penalties but Sweden doing amazing, Ravelli is GOAT

Semis
>Based Stoichkov finally out but Baggio surely the best player in the world
>Brazil edge out Sweden for tasty final

>Bulgaria hammered in playoff, Sweden's attack is amazing

Final
>Baggio, Romario, Bebeto all on the pitch
>No fucking goals
>Penalties
>Not like this...
>Le Devine Ponytail memes into orbit
>>

1994

England didn't qualify that year. Unless you count the half of the irish team that was born in the UK.
>>
Was aware of 1990 but didn't watch it because I was an edgy toddler who thought football was gay. First one I properly watched was 1994.

Now I'm 33, I think football is gay again.
