My first football memory is watching Baggio missing that penalty in 94. I dont remember anything of that world cup, besides that. And the first one i watched fully was 98. I remember cheering for Croatia after we got BTFO by Brasil. By far the best i watched. Worst 2006, because the levels of the teams was pathetic. Brasil 2002, Spain 2010 or Germany 2014 would have steamrolled the competition if they played that cup.

2006. I was definitely old enough to watch 2002 but I just didn't care. I was all about basketball, and still I care more about the NBA playoffs every year than the World Cup every 4 years, and my NBA team is the Kings and we have been dogshit since 2006, ironically enough.

The best defensive midfielder of this era (and in history) was Deschamps. I'll take him over Davids any day. It's when he retired that France stopped winning. Even peaking Zidane, Vieira and Makelele were not enough to compensate for this loss.
Also, Zidane was good, but not as good as he would become starting the 00's, I wouldn't take him. And if I'd take Blanc over Desailly in defense, though you could probably find better than those 2.
