Mixed martial artists do not deteriorate at the same rate that boxers do. A 40 year old McGregor would be in much better shape, relatively, than 40 year old Floyd is right now.

In what realm would Mayweather have even a sliver of a chance in that scenario? Even in his prime Mayweather was a great defender much more so than a good offensive boxer, and all the ways you defend yourself in boxing would get your shit pushed in if you used those tactics in an MMA fight. Also 6 months is not enough to learn all the many styles used in MMA.

But Mayweather isn't dumb, broke and desperate enough to do that in the first place.
