To be fair to Ramsey, it's an utter joke that Firmino had a free header in the box on the first goal given that he was a lone striker up against a back three. Xhaka losing the ball in the build-up was disappointing but it didn't leave us that badly exposed by any means; the situation it led to was entirely defensible and the back three's complete inability to deal with a simple cross into the box had a far greater role in us conceding that goal.

The second goal was woeful from the defence as well - Mane being allowed to cut in on his right foot by Holding when he has no left foot to speak of is just unacceptable. Show him outside, make him try and beat you down the line; don't show him inside and let him get a shot off on his stronger foot. Again, the goal came from a turnover but a good defender doesn't get so easily exposed.

The third goal was again down to shitty defending. A clearance from a corner shouldn't lead to a one-on-one so fucking easily. I can't remember the fourth as I wasn't really engaged with the game at that point.

But we have made a habit of making it easy for opponents to score against us. The goal we conceded at Stoke is a good example. Yes, it came from a turnover, but again we faced an entirely defensible situation and were undone by a very simple attacking move.

As gung ho as Ramsey was that game the goals we conceded were largely down to the incompetence of the back three. And this is the truly worrying thing - if we're getting thrashed with an extra man at centre-back then what more can be done to shore up the defence? I don't know if it's coaching or personnel but there's something deeply wrong with our defensive approach to the game.
