One thing I noticed is that when Mayweather would go for the clinch, he'd just kind of leaned on Conor and didn't really expend a lot of energy.

Conor on the other hand seemed to immediately shoot for underhooks or try to go around the back just out of habit. Also I think he had to stop himself from throwing an elbow a couple of times. Him working so hard in the clinch probably contributed to the gassing factor in addition to the body work by Mayweather and just his general shit cardio.

And normally. His punches still looked like ass and had no power on them, before he got tired after 9 minutes. He couldn't pace himself for shit or tell that Floyd was intentionally letting him punch himself silly on his arms, couldn't move himself, and didn't present an answer for body work. He got walked down and knocked out by a smaller, older man, and was easy work.

Floyd was playing. He was grinning ear to ear the entire time and didn't get out of 2nd gear. He carried him for a while and then finished him because he felt like it. Conor was too, considering how easy he let the whupping wash off him in the post-fight. His fans cared more about this than he did. He knew he wasn't going to do shit.

To save Conor's brain cells, you mean. He was being bashed around the ring and nearly falling out the ropes. He didn't throw a punch for basically the entire 10th round and the 9th was more or less a 10-8 already considering Floyd walked him down and blasted him with right hands repeatedly.

>MMA is real fighting
False.

MMAnlets need to stop parroting this meme because it clearly shows the level of autism of the average MMAnlet out there. Real street fights never go to the ground. They are conducted standing up. Real fights are boxing fights. Every real fight I've ever watched and have been in has been done standing up. Deal with it MMAnlets.

Jew Jitsu, Wrestling, Karate, etc. are memes and never used in real fights.

No difference, actually. Barao was a punching bag, McGregor was a punching bag. McGregor also fouled over a dozen times with rabbit punches, hammerfists, punches to the back of the head, and the kidney. Against a tiny man who hadn't been in the ring for two years and also wasn't supposed to be a KO threat. He cheated like a faggot and still got whooped and slept.
>>
Most MMA fans hate it when the fight goes to the ground which goes to show even MMAnlets are actually boxing fans and don't really like MMA. Also the biggest stars are usually the fighters who win standing up. Seriously stop watching this meme/joke of a '''sport''', if you want kicks just watch Muay Thai or something

Floyd was going to give up the first 3 rounds, so Conor could have thrown just enough to win them without much effort.

4-8 he could give back to Floyd and throw just enough so that the ref doesn't call it. Duck under and hold and just wait for the 9th and make Floyd exert more to win these rounds.

This in theory should give Conor an energy advantage to go for a win in 9-12. Probably isn't going to win 4 rounds of boxing with Floyd but seems like his best chance and the worst case he turtles up and loses a decision while taking 3-4 rounds from the GOAT in his debut.

tldr: Why did Conor headhunt the GOAT / defensive genius Mayweather?

Also, why has no one in Conor's camp told him about his obvious and glaring weakness of endurance / cardio? Isn't this easy to fix with running?

Conor has enough cardio to go the distance in boxing or MMA. He just throws too many bombs too quickly to last to a decision. It's a gameplanning/energy management issue, and as long as he keeps trying to knock motherfuckers out it's never going to stop.
>>
>>77895915
to be fair, Floyd didn't throw a punch in rounds 2 and 3 and he still won them both on two judges cards, so the fix was in from the get go. if you watch those rounds again, floyd hardly does fuck all and he still wins the rounds. so conor had no hope in hell at winning a decision

>Also, why has no one in Conor's camp told him about his obvious and glaring weakness of endurance / cardio? Isn't this easy to fix with running?
I think it's a problem that is difficult for them to fix, because Kavanagh has seen it multiple times and definitely knows it's a big problem. I'm not really sure why they haven't been able to iron that out lol

a) that's absolute fucking bullshit for two reasons: that stat includes all the pitter patter hammerfists and blocked strikes, and a ton of fighters have landed more strikes. Maidana landed 221 in the first fight and 128 in the rematch.

b) Mayweather was aggressive as all fuck. He walked Conor down like he didn't have the slightest respect for his power. You are going to get hit if you are the aggressor in boxing if you aren't incredibly slick, that's just how shit works.

mma is dead
The biggest difference between the sports is that boxing has a better system for weeding out the weak. The amatuer system, national competitions, international tournaments such as the olympics.
somewhere along the line the weak get exposed and are eventually held back from further progress. the boxers path to being elite is basically a kind of natural selection. having well above average stamina to regular humans is selected by the nature of boxing. not so in mma where there are more ways to rest and glass chinned bums get KO by the 1st punch that lands.

mma fighters are basically evolved to survive in a less demanding environment.

I either have 8 sausages a day with a tonne of rice, or a big pork joint roasted with potatoes.
Sounds simple but I always make a nice sauce homemade for them with wine, cream, lemon, some spices and the meat juice.

Steaks are pretty inefficient given their cost. I like to get by on one massive meal a day, and two steaks + pasta/rice/broccoli wouldn't cut it.

I'm shitting all over the steak meme.

One thing I always notice with boxing (only watched it for about a year, GGG vs Brook whenever that was.. ) is that its generally just known beforehand who the better guy is.. the commentators will just say from round 1 like yeah.. he will finish him in a couple probably and then that happens.Normally its some random bum thats clearly a stepping stone for a young guy but the MMA fan side of me is thinking "why the fuck are they counting him out? anything can happen" but it basically just doesnt.

Its like theres levels to boxing that are just set and upsets rarely happen, so for a guy (conor) to have gone in and tried it out at the very fucking highest level possible instantly was just stupid.

UFC makes it way too easy to be a bum and still get far and way too hard to be a younger guy who can learn and grow as they fight.

think of every single martial art that anyone has ever been a master of them and technically mma includes all of them. so yeah, it's going to be difficult to be a dominant master of the sport

>MMA is harder

It's not a matter of one being harder than the other*. There are just so many different ways to lose that eventually you will come across a guy who is really good at something that you aren't even though you are clearly the better fighter overall. This is why records don't matter so much in MMA.

*(though becoming a specialist at the highest level of any given specific discipline is arguably much harder than becoming good at a large variety of things. it's easy to become decent at anything, it becomes progressively harder to become better over time as you gain more skill, and boxing is a game of inches).

Honestly dude, I think it is a matter of one being harder than the other. Every martial art on earth being slammed together is a young sport, and the ways in which someone can come up with a way to negate your strengths are ever evolving very rapidly.

The landscape of MMA has changed so much over the past few years, it's incredible how fast the sport evolves. I get what you're saying about being at the very elite level of something and how difficult that is, but MMA is harder no matter how you argue it. It's way, way harder lol

Your opponent can do that too, though. I get that there are many extraneous details here but that's a silly argument to make, in my opinion. No, the most simple way to explain that is that MMA is more *random*. The less random and chaotic a given competition is, the less skill matters.

Sure, the skillset of the particular fighters involve determine the outcome, but who gets matched up with who isn't determined by skill, it's luck and marketability and record and generally things entirely *unrelated* to what kind of skillset you have. It's essentially random. Which means that the skillset matchup is random.

Saying that MMA fighters have more losses because MMA is harder is a meaningless statement. What does it mean to be hard?

Matchmaking in boxing is incredibly flawed and everyone knows it. Boxers don't even begin to become relevant without being at least 20-0 because of this. It's stupid.

MMA matchmaking is definitely flawed as well but not anywhere near to the same extent.

Also, getting matched with a guy who has a skillset that can beat yours is not random. You are using that word incorrectly. The implementation of skillsets is not random, and the matchmaking isn't random, either.

But since I like arguing, to continue:

>The implementation of skillsets is not random, and the matchmaking isn't random, either.

It doesn't matter that the implementation of skillsets isn't random. The skillsets *themselves* are random, because the matchmaking is effectively (for all intents and purposes with regard to to matchup itself) random. Unless you're Scott Coker booking Nick Diaz's title fights, you book the people who have either a) marketability, or b) the record to justify the title shot, and the mix of skills of of a given fighter don't determine either.

>The skillsets *themselves* are random, because the matchmaking is effectively (for all intents and purposes with regard to to matchup itself) random.

Dude, this is stupid, come on. Just because you can't pick and choose opponents in MMA doesn't meant that everything involved is random. You need to be well rounded and that has nothing to do with randomness. Again, I think you are misusing that word.

>you book the people who have either a) marketability, or b) the record to justify the title shot
There is a bit of back and forth when MMA guys are negotiating opponents, but generally guys want to fight those that are ranked ahead of them. Once a guy has done the company a few "favours", as in, took some fights against dangerous opponents ranked behind him, then he gains a bit more of an ability to choose his next opponent. None of this is "random". Just because you don't know if you're fighting a karate guy or a jitz guy doesn't mean that the way you match up against those disciplines is random.

>There's nothing wrong with a slow roll to build up a prospect. Plenty of guys have made a decent living losing fights.

Boxers actually DO pick and choose their opponents, and their record is much, much more important than in MMA. In boxing, a guy NEVER fights a young prospect ranked way, way behind him, simply because the young guy is dangerous. They pick and choose opponents right up until the end, which is why some get notoriously labelled as duckers, which is far less common in MMA.
and I like arguing too

>What does it mean for a sport to be harder than another sport?
If time and money simply do not equate to you receiving the training necessary to succeed (presuming you have the athleticism required, of course) then I would argue that it's a hard sport. Now, a lot of sports require such a specific type of athleticism/body that one can be cockblocked due to genetics alone. I'm not talking about stuff like that.

If you meet the physical requirements to compete, and time and money don't necessarily get you training that is beneficial, then you're playing a fucking hard sport.

>So, what, are we just talking about having a sufficiently large pool of competitors that talent will necessarily rise over non-talent? Because that means that boxing is by default harder than MMA.

If you have the athleticism required for boxing (and it's certainly one of the least demanding sports in this regard due to weight classes but I will ignore that for now) then time and money certainly equate to you receiving adequate training to have success in the ring. I have no idea how you could possibly think this isn't true.

You guys don't realise that Mike Tyson was shorter than Mark Hunt (the shortest heavyweight), he was 240 pounds but still maintained low body fat. That's a lot of muscle, without any compromise in speed or agility.

He was basically Tyron Woodley if you could blow him up to heavyweight while keeping him as agile and fast, which is physiologically almost impossible.

That kind of athleticism at heavyweight has never and will not be seen again for a very long time.

The closest anyone has gotten is Kevin Randleman but we can't even begin to compare a guy who has 30 seconds of stamina to Mike Tyson, who was had pretty good cardio for at least the first 6 rounds.

Somewhat agree, somewhat disagree.

I agree with the fact that the amature system in boxing is really good, but if you count the amature wrestling/BJJ/judo system as a feeder for MMA, you can get comparable results.

You what? Explain.

>then time and money certainly equate to you receiving adequate training to have success in the ring. I have no idea how you could possibly think this isn't true.

Because it isn't. If you take two people who weigh the same but one is far more talented than the other and they spend the same amount of time in training, the one with more talent will beat the other 99/100 at every weight class but heavyweight.

Ha I was waiting for that my guy. Mike Tyson at 15, was 200 pounds. You ever seen a 15 year old weigh 200 pounds without being fat? Now if you claim he was doing steroids at that age, he must have started when he was 13, which is not possible because 1. he wasn't training at 13, and 2. he would have severe health issues and probably be dead already.

buddy if you're 5'7" you can't play professional football or basketball, obviously. I don't need to explain why, you're just being silly. The average height of NHLers is 6'1", and players that are 5'7" need to be exemplary players in order to hack it because of the size disadvantage they face. You are incredibly unlikely to make it in many professional sports if you don't meet the near-mandatory physical requirements.

An athletic person of any size can get into boxing.

>If you take two people who weigh the same but one is far more talented than the other and they spend the same amount of time in training, the one with more talent will beat the other 99/100 at every weight class but heavyweight.

physical size has little to nothing to do with athleticism when we're talking about combat sports. that's why I'm saying that the fact that boxing has weight classes makes athleticism *more* important, not less.

>Are you saying that the person that is far more talented hasn't spent more time training in this scenario?

No, I'm saying that all else being equal, if you are more naturally talented than the other guy, you will almost always succeed in a boxing match. The ruleset is limited in such a way that depth of skill matters more than almost anything else.

so shut the fuck up chink, every team in the NFL has a running back who's short, a slot WR who's short, a corner who is short, a kick returner and so on

Natural physical ability?

When I say that someone is more talented I mean that they are more easily able to learn the specific discipline that is being talked about. They take to it more easily. A talented boxer will learn box more quickly than someone who is less talented all else being equal.
