If the board deems you worthy, then you can. I generally prefer clubs with good facilities and youth recruitment, and when I get affiliated with them I usually make the league they're in playable (should've downloaded and enabled that Claassen mega pack m8).

Of course. It affects your scouting pool (players and staff available to you), it affects their transfer activity (hence whether they're interested in your players or not), so on so forth. You can't just have one league loaded if you want a somewhat realistic experience. I recommend in your case loading at least the top division of the top 10 or 11 countries in Europe: Spain, Germany, England, Italy, France (all divisions since you manage there), Russia, Portugal, Belgium, Ukraine, Turkey. On the top of that I recommand loading Brazil and Argentina as they're generous regen producers, always worth scouting. Additionally, you could turn on but not necessarily the USA as there always are free players waiting for a draft you can just poach for free as well as Mexico.

It won't make the clubs more active. You could end up starting with more players... that will retire very soon in the save because no club is interested. Why would they be after all. It happens much less often with View-Only clubs as they're more active on the transfer market and their games are simulated, albeit on the lowest precision possible in order not to have any impact on processing speed. While I have the leagues only on View-Only, I usually load Scandinavian players as there are pretty good picks there early on.

Also, tip if you're in FM17 and are fed up with the game resetting your league choices all the time: go on Fantasy Draft before starting a new career. It will recover your previous setup.

I've had really good saves with top tier clubs but when I attempt to manage a Conference team in England I always get obliterated 6-0 or so in every game; I dominate the friendlies against harder teams but similar teams in the league rape me.

you're using an attacking mentality? attacking plays relatively high risk football at high tempo which probably isnt suitable for a side in the conference

if you use automatic duties they get given the duty closest to the team mentality which means you will have your fullbacks on attack duty as well as that central midfielder which means you're pretty much fucked defensively

since you're on FM16 CMd is a good role for your holding midfielder but i'd suggest changing the CMau to CMs

probably don't want to exploit the middle in a 4-4-2 since the 4-4-2 as a formation is typically going to be better at controlling the wings than the middle of the pitch

would recommend getting rid of all your team instructions and just seeing how the team plays with simple roles and duties first before you start complicating things

Don't use that hairpack in 17, use the 16 version. SI changed the way regen heads were aligned with the 17.3 update, so the hairpack in the OP no longer fits on regens heads. And yeah, like Frenchanon said, that's FM 15. Don't even know why they even changed it from 15. It was fine.
