I'm slowly becoming okay with the Kyrie Trade. He's been my favorite player since we drafted him. Even when LeBron came back, Kyrie was still my favorite. So it sucked to see how things turned out the way they did. What's worse is the fact that he's going to play in Boston now. I hate Boston and every single Boston team.

I've been watching closely since the Cavs drafted him. Kyrie has been my favorite Cavs player even after LeBron came back. My point is that Kyrie is a lot of fun to watch. But he stops ball movement and the dude can score, but for some reason it seems like all of his points are hollow and meaningless. Kyrie won't win you a ship. Hayward is going to have to play out of his mind and the rest of the team are going to have to be incredible... all while Kyrie does is own iso, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, shoot thing and forgets about the team.

I had always hoped playing with LeBron would have changed that about Kyrie, but he was still doing the same old thing in last year's finals. I get that's what helped them get there, but that's only because of LeBron and the team LeBron had around him. Don't forget 2015 when LeBron just put the Cavs on his back without Kyrie. 2016 again LeBron carried them. Sure, they couldn't have won it without Kyrie's shot, but Kyrie never would have been there if LeBron hadn't put him there.

Cavs played their best when the ball moved. LeBron is pretty unselfish and loves ball movement and it benefits him as well.

Kyrie did pick up some shit habits before LeBron, especially playing with Dion Waiters and having Scott and Brown coach him didn't help much. Both Irving and Waiters were gunning for that alpha dog spot and neither would set it aside for team success.

Still, I do like Kyrie. He's a lot of fun to watch, he really is. He's fucking great, but he's frustrating as fuck when he's on your team because he can't carry you to a win unless you're already close and he starts meme chucking.

The thing is, I really like their core going forward after this year. Kyrie and Hayward are really good players and should play together extremely well. There's so much creativity and playmaking and scoring between those two. and Horford is good for a couple years and Smart is a nice piece. and if Brown and Tatum are even somewhat decent, there's a lot of room to run there.

But giving up the Nets pick just kills it to me. They could have gotten SO MUCH VALUE out of using that piece for another complementary piece, either through the draft or via trade. It's too much flexibility and value going forward to get rid of for Kyrie. And I know everyone talks about the Lakers pick - the Lakers pick might not even convey. If that pick ends up 6th, it's really going to fuck with Boston.

It feels like Ainge got locked in on Kyrie and ended up giving up too much value in a way that's going to shackle them down the line.

While I'm devastated by this trade, I think this deal works well for both sides.

Cavs get better for one last shot at a championship with LeBron's pending free agency (and probable departure). They get an asset in the Nets pick to rebuild with. They also get a little bit of luxury tax relief on top of it.

The Celtics get a young superstar with two years left on a good deal. We no longer have to worry about how much we are going to pay IT and the future implications of whatever deal he gets. And, with Cleveland likely to blow up, we more or less guarantee that we are the de-facto top dogs in the east for the foreseeable future after this season.

I think Danny knows full well he made the Cavs better this year, but I don't think he cares, nor should he.
