-He's inexperienced
-It's the first ''mountain'' stage
-It's the third stage of a 3 week race

To sum it up, you don't wanna lose too much time here but don't read into the performance of the riders too much.
Alot of them will hit their peak performance in the 2nd and 3rd week.
Riders that rode the Tour like Froome and Bardet will be dead in 2 weeks.
Aru, Nibali and Chavez are in a much better position to win this, if they don't blow their entire energy in the first week.
