If we're being real, Kyle is in the conversation for the most talented drivers ever. Anyone who doubts he wouldn't win in anything you put him in is delusional.
Doesn't make him any less of a douche, but yeah. I wish NASCAR had more of a level playing field right now so I could truly soak in how good Kyle is, but even if it were generic cars and totally level, he'd be winning.
Imagine if Lewis Hamilton decided to go back and won a GP2 race during a race weekend and every driver, pit reporter and team owner in the series all started calling him the greatest ever like they do for Kyle

The same Toyota that had magnets under their gas pedals in nationwide cars so when they brought them back to be tech inspected they wouldn't show max power at the R&D center. The same Toyota that brings an F1 budget to redneck stockcars.

It took around a decade but Toyota eventually priced everyone out of the Truck series. They have way more money to piss away than GM or Ford and won't shrivel away like Dodge did. They've redone the Camry's body style like 3 times in the last 5 years, Ford has had the Fusion since the COT and Chevy is only changing because they literally had to.
Jack Roush was right about the nips coming over and outspending everyone. NASCAR really needs another rich foreign manufacturer to come in and compete with Toyota because they're doing the exact same shit they did to the trucks.
>>77715912
>NASCAR really needs another rich foreign manufacturer to come in and compete with Toyota because they're doing the exact same shit they did to the trucks.
Current silly season rumor is that Hyundai is coming in and looking to spend because they want to expand their motorsport programs and presence in the US (Though it may be Hyundai engine, Kia body). This is also alongside the possible return of Dodge (Fiat-Chrysler are supposedly in "Advanced talks" despite claiming they have no interest). Not exactly Toyota rich (And Fiat-Chrysler might just be doing it for the sake of market share). But more manufacturers would mean more variety and issues for Toyota.

The tow area will be narrower to the point where a car will have to be almost directly in back of another car to pick up a draft, but next year's car will be less affected by dirty air going into corners since 88% of the DF will come from the reliable, low drag underwing as opposed to 75% from this year's underwing.

I don't agree with everything but he's not wrong on a lot of it. Racing now should be about racing. The environmental image is bullshit when the biggest polluters are trucks and cargo ships. 20-40 cars 30 weekends a year are not going to pave the way for environmental changes. Even when the FIA starts getting an inkling of progressive ideas, it shoots itself in the foot before harvesting half of its potential (battery tech and overall specness in FE).
>>77765137
Even Formula E cars are powered by those huge diesel generators
Of course everyone involved quietly ignores that fact
>>77765214
That's the funniest part. The people involved know but the intended audience for FE doesn't think about where the electricity comes to charge the electric cars let alone for their house. Hopefully with the manufacturer involvement we'll get some cool battery tech but I couldn't give less of a shit about FE.
>>77765335
The only reason manufacturers are jumping to FE is because it costs peanuts, checks off "green" and "motorsports" off the marketing checklist and it essentially boils down to slapping a sticker on the side of the car.
When they open up the battery development expect all of them to bail out.

Once Toyota get their Le Mans win, they are gone and endurance racing will die. Formula E is spec racing at the moment, but car makers will go nuts on spending. It may be the only type of racing to grow in the next decade. F1, Nascar, and everything else is in decline, even rallycross plateaued.
sad times, lads
>KCMG sponsoring Brandon Jones at Darlington
>>77764964
He didn't have much to say about Indy other than it's still there providing pleasant racing.
>>77769103
You're talking about the same Toyota that has been racing Priuses for like a decade. If they can continue for reasonable money they have no reason to leave. A few ten millions is nothing to a company that still spends money on NASCAR trucks and F3.
>>77769736
A top flight Le mans program is a nine figure proposition. Audi was quotes as it being $242 million a year, all in. Toyota has no reason to stay once they get their win, even they will go to Formula E.
>>77769819
You don't need a top flight WEC program to poop on privateers, and Toyota has never spent anything even remotely close to that even last year when they overspent to debut a new car early because the one they won the championship with and planned to race three seasons was suddenly 4s off the pace. Audi was making a new car every season in a category where you usually only replace cars when there's a major rule change.
Toyota doesn't give a FUCK about Formula E.
>>77769819
>A top flight Le mans program is a nine figure proposition
Correction, a top flight VAG Le Mans programme is in the nine figures. Audi and Porsche reportedly ran F1-tier budgets but Toyota operates on a significantly less money. They didn't get any additional funding from the factory this year ran the third car at Spa and Le Mans on carryover money from the previous seasons. I can see Toyota leaving due to the lack of competition, but LMP1 isn't cheap by any means, but also not that expensive compared to the other options
>Le Mans is 9-figures
Is an F1 team like Merc or Ferrari north of a billion?
>>77770382
no. roughly 100-150m more than wec
>>77770190
>Toyota doesn't give a FUCK about Formula E.
Well, not yet. End the P1 program, take half the money and spend it on running the Lexus LC in GTE, take a quarter to a third of the money and spend that running a Toyota FE program, and take whats left over and use that to run Corollas in WTCC.
Maintain WEC presence? Check.
Environmentally friendly dildo racing? Check.
Production-based car/technology racing? Check.

Toyota was doing hybrid electric Prius's in the mid 90's, in the mid 2000's they were demoing all electric and hydrogen cell vehicles, hard to say where they are going to head, but they've been ahead of the curve for years.
>>77772918
>WTCC

>>77773723
Radical
>>77772918
no u dum. Toyota realizes pure electric cars for city use only and racing them (with no battery development especially) is a meme, they want to race hybrids and fuel cell vehicles.
They don't need to race in FE to pretend they're environmentally friendly (the existence of the Prius and Mirai already prove that point as hard as it can be) or WTCC to promote econoboxes
Like really why would you need a generic gay open wheel car with your name on it when you have dudes sliding production zero emissions vehicles around rally stages.
GUTI BTFO
Incidentally a nice bonus of hydrogen racing would be that the cars are slow as FUCK at the moment so you would need fuck all for rules and could see real performance gains which might actually make things fun again for a few years.
The biggest problem with hydrogen is the amount of energy it takes to convert it to a useable fuel.
In Hydrogen IC engines, the engine must be run at low temperatures and low oxygen stoichiometric ratios(in the chambers) in order to avoid preingnition or creating toxic nitrogen gas.
This is the reason Hydrogen cars produce less power, restricted oxygen flow to avoid too much heat, but the cars could in theory produce up to 15% more power than a petrol engine given the correct stoichiometry.
With those problems stated, hydrogen in general, whether internal Combustion or Hydrogen cells, has far fewer obstacles than electric hybrids, those batteries are toxic as all hell, have a limited lifespan, and electricity doesn't come for free to the environment.
