https://twitter.com/F1/status/897133384127860740
>>77640703
Of course he did.
For example, was always spilling his spaghetti when they were close together apart from Spa 2000 when he got so fucking mad that he was able to pull off the greatest overtake of all time. But most of the time he was still feeling that same effect Senna had on other drivers: when that yellow helmet in a red/white car appeared in the mirrors, it was "oh fuck, oh fuck" time. Of course, he would probably say that he didn't fear Schumi, but he would be lying. Just like Kimi said in 2002 in F1 Racing magazine that he doesn't fear Schumacher but his actions on track told another story.
Also, Schumi wanted to go to McLaren in the late 90's and Mika said no. Then Mika was negotiating with Ferrari in 2000(ish) and Schumi said no.

You have to wonder why they don't have more tyre barriers in crash-prone areas. Too expensive maybe?
>>77644421
Because making imperfect AI is more fun to watch because a perfect AI would be slower and safer
They're going to try and make the AI as fast as they can which means taking more risks, cornering faster and closer to the limit rather than playing it safe
>>77644861
There's not a lot of space for decent runoff, let alone tyre barriers, in a lot of the crash prone areas. And maintaining them might be impractical.
The fact that it's technically a publicly accessible (though privately owned and toll-controlled) road might have implications too.
>>77644867
Again, it will just mean the team with the most computational power will be able to machine learn the ultimate driving AI. There will be no unpredictability or anything.
I mean, it would be an interesting test-bed and for self-driving AI and everything but I just cannot imagine it having the same kind of reach and audience as F1. Presently the driver is the only thing that keeps this sport relatable, because we can emphatise with a human.

I figured as much, but it wouldn't hurt to have, right? Even if they cut tyres in half to attach them to the barriers that way (like you see as yacht bumpers if the owner is a cheap cunt) it would reduce the impact energy
>>77644947
Apparently it was met with massive enthusiasm from the engineers, who think it'll play a huge role in accelerating the development of self-driving AI. As far as the on-track spectacle is concerned, it's just gonna be a support series for Formula E so I don't think manufacturers are too concerned about the reach and advertising potential it'll have.
Costs will be pretty low comparatively due to not having any drivers and the relaxed safety standards that come with that. It will be treated as pure R&D with marketing bonuses on the side rather than the opposite that most motorsports are. Plus the potential for huge meme crashing will be crazy.

You are forgetting the fact that they're still tires, and will "brake" the car and pull it into the barrier and make everything worse. The crashes are parallel, lateral velocity is low and cars mostly skip like >>77644294. Tires are for head on impacts, it's kind of hard to do in a twisty circuit like Nordschleife. There should still be tire barriers, in extremely dangerous zones.

I've said this before but Montoya and Kimi are by far the most naturally talented drivers in F1 in the past 20 years. Especially looking at Kimi, like 20 open wheel starts before F1 and then does it like its no big deal. Both him and Montoya have some sort of incredible natural ability to just drive fast. The problem with both of these drivers is that they basically spent their entire careers relying on that and didn't really try that hard outside of what they could naturally do. Granted, their natural maximum was often phenomenal. but the thing is that they are both notoriously lazy.
E.g. Schumacher was a phenomenal talent, but his precision and overall skill on track didn't come out of nowhere. He was widely known to be the hardest working guy in F1, always testing, always improving and WORKING on his skill. Maybe in the 70's and 80's you could just hop in the car and drive as fast as you could and win titles that way, but in the post-Schumi era of F1, with the incredibly complex machinery and high level of competition, you simply have to work hard at all times to give yourself an edge to be a champion. Even Rosberg, who is clearly not a super top-tier driver and certainly not as good as Hamilton, openly admitted to sacrificing a lot, spending more time than ever practicing, driving karts and bettering himself, and he walked away with a title.
Look at Montoya in any series, it's the same story. Occasionally amazingly fast, often inconsistent, low interest in anything that doesn't involve being in the car and driving. In Indycar 2016 he didn't even bother setting up his car for some races and was present at the track ONLY for the mandatory sessions and that's it. Kimi I feel has made a conscious effort to try and better himself, especially after 2014, but the problem is that its a decade too late and he's way past his peak.

It's up to 750, and it's a 2.2 liter twin turbocharged engine. F1's ICE is only 1.5 liters.
>>77661159
>without the Hybrid unit.
LMAO
It's not F1's fault Indycar is low tech and doesn't have a hybrid drivetrain.
Face it anon, your IndyCar has a low tech 1980's tier engine, and is only pretty because it's was designed by an artist to be pretty, not by an engineer to be as fast as possible.
>>77661301
750 / 2.2L = 340hp/L
750 / 1.5L = 500hp/L
How will IndyShill ever recover?
>>77661301
>F1's ICE is only 1.5 liters.
so it makes more torque at low RPM thus making it more difficult to drive therefore weeding out the shit tier drivers who aren't good enough for F1
>>77661159
>>77661301
ICEs are around 800hp nowadays, ERS is 180hp I think?
>>77661159
And how much power does an Indycar produces with 2 pistons less?
>>77661440
Read an analysis from two years ago and they said the V6 ICU was about the same power of V8 which was circa 750, in two years they surely got 50 hp more so 800 is plausible.
>>77661412
The F1 engine will actually have a fuckload more torque at low RPM because of the electric motor doing torque fill, and the turbocharger having it's own electric motor that keeps it always spooled up.
>>77661159
Word on the street is that the hybrid is around 200 BHP but I can't find anything really confirming or denying that.
Anyway we have no actual idea how many horses the F1 power units truly have because of the cucked "can only use 5 power units" regulations and team's not sharing that info. We do know that efficiency has skyrocketed in the ICU with these regs and as >>77661389 points out even the size to performance is higher in F1.
It would be interesting to see what would happen to indy if they were track only and didnt have to consider low downforce circle tracks.
F1 engines aren't stressed components are they?
>>77661618
What do you mean by that? They are structural and are a moving part so there are plenty of stressing forces on the engine.
>>77661618
As in going to blow up, or as in structural?
The engine block is stressed structural member in an F1 car.
>>77661528
F1 teams have never shared how much power they make. I understand not wanting to give away info during a season/current regs, but even years after they often seem quite cagey talking about it.
>>77661748
My guess would be you never know what secrets you had that aren't known and could be relevant again. If you say your engine had more power than your competitors then they might look into why you were better and learn something.
That or they have contracts that mean they can't share that and don't want to break those contracts.
@77661282
Do you really want to get btfo that much? Don't you see that the majority of /f1/ doesn't welcome you here?
>>77660893
I think it's just summer and most toothpastes are out with their caravans spending some romantic holidays with their sisters.
Also, before the break it was the fact that he was out of the races within the first few laps. Normie toothpastes are still shitting up social media about how AMX is the greatest gift F1 has ever received and how Helmut Marko supposedly stated it was Red Bull's goal to make him the youngest WDC ever, meaning Ricci is a number 2 driver.
>>77662122
Inb4 Leclerc gets WDC before AMD
>>77661528
>>77662014
>>77661748
Honda and Renault have used reasonably specific figures to say how much they think their engines are less powerful than Merc/Ferrari by, and it's fair to estimate that Merc's engines are reaching 1000hp in quali considering Andy Cowell (iirc) said they were nearing that figure a year or two ago.
If I had to guess, I'd say
>Merc 1010hp (quali) 950hp (race)
>Ferrari 945hp (race)
>Renault 925hp
>Honda 860hp
Of course I have access to no team's engine data, but an engineer who knew more precisely how much the Mercedes made for example
>>77662248
>but an engineer who knew more precisely how much the Mercedes made for example
whoops forgot to keep writing
they would be able to much more accurately measure the gaps, I think (drag*speed^3)=power is the right equation, and with speed data from GPS measuring or whatever the other team's cars through corners/on straights you just need to guess the drag coefficient of their car
>>77662245
I would give my left nut for that to happen.
>>77662458
What about both?
>tfw /f1/ would have our very own qt trap
>>77660893
I highly doubt that. Verstappen is a solid driver. He has 20 years of F1 ahead of him. I'm sure he will find a way to get a good car sometime.
>>77662580
Well he is kind of stuck at RB for what? Another 5 years? Odds on RB being a championship winning car and odds on his teammate not being more consistent than him over that time?
>>77661440
>>77661159
ERS is 160HP, total power should be around 950+. So we're looking at around 800 at worst. Weak bantz.
>>77662353
>I think (drag*speed^3)=power is the right equation
That doesn't really sound right. Looks extremely simple, it has shittons of variables. But I'm playing RuneScape right now, too lazy to think about it.

drag squares with velocity and torque halves with RPM, shouldn't that be ^3? It's just a simple equation. you're right, but it should be accurate enough to get a ballpark figure
>>77663089
it's a summer break joke, not anything serious
>>77663155
I'm sure they have far more advanced equations that probably use their car which is a known entity as the base. But then I'm not a mechanical engineer just a lowly concrete sniffing civil engineer.
>>77663282
True, but nonetheless teams have engineers who can calculate to a high level of precision how much power a given engine has. If I was much good at maths I wouldn't be discussing this shit on a Burundian soil erosion documenting blog
>>77663445
I have no doubt they can estimate within say 5hp which means they have that team's drag within a similar ball park.
I'm just sure no one here except our Brazilian friend with the super computer can even understand the incredibly complex equations.
Joke aside I really I think if I can understand the equation it's probably not the correct one.
>>77662501
I'd give my other nut for Ricci dominating the sport for at least five seasons.
You could call me thicciardo.
>>77663445
Well what I was trying to say is, unknown variables affect a lot of shit. Like, Sauber also has Ferrari engine, Manor had Mercedes engine, but both are slower than Honda powered McLaren. And it's not just aerodynamics or cornering speed. There are also lots of parasitic forces and obviously driver skill.
And also the only relevance torque and RPM has is power, and parasitic losses. Valve timing and flow properties are also in the equation but that just makes it very complicated and painful.
Holy shit agility training is boring.
Reminder to slow down just enough to give them bad wake.

>>77665086
>annoying Turkish bitch face
Confirmation bias, m8.
You consider every woman with a Turkish face who isn't wearing a burka to be an annoying bitch because it's haram.
>>77665159
But Turkey is a secular country...
It used to be, at least.
>>77665159
I shit you not, she's almost identical to my cousins ex gf. And she was annoying as fuck. We couldn't even go out drinking with our bros without her also coming with us and keeping him away from us.
Also your banter is Brazil tier weak.
>>77665188
Is America a fascist country now? Just because the media is constantly bashing him (they were sucking him balls deep only 5 years ago) doesn't mean anything has changed. You know everything about my country because you read a few biased articles, well done.

>>77665803
They are probably capable of VR, but something must not allow them to do so.
>>77664955
>I don't get why they do that though
The lower the rating, the more freedom they have with advertising. There are certain restrictions for movies and games that are not rated for children. Also, I'm pretty sure that FOM dictates PEGI-3.
>>77664800
There's mods on PC to fix all that shit.
>>77664996
There's a mod on PC that makes the female agent nude. One step at a time.
>>77665803
They are "looking into it" which means that either a) they didn't have enough time to implement this because they had so much other stuff to do for F1 2017 and/or b) they have the data from Dirt and they've seen that only 1% of players use VR
>>77666249
> b) they have the data from Dirt and they've seen that only 1% of players use VR
I hope you're not right there but I accept it as a possibility; that being said, every serious racing sim is incorporating it now except for Automobilista - they have to do it eventually
>>77666249
>They are "looking into it" which means
...you're annoying fuck off, ask again later when we'll tell you we're still "looking in to".
>>77666413
It's their standard answer when asked about something that will be in the next game but couldn't be implemented in time for the current one. Like last year they introduced the feature which let you choose the time of the day during a race, many journalists said "oh, I can drive Monaco at night? Cool!" and they went "no, unfortunately, but we are looking into it", and now it's in the game.
>>77666575
It's almost like planned obsolescence.
They need to keep holding features back to justify making people buy essentially the same game every year.
>>77666634
>>77666575
I know I'm in a minority but what it means for me is that I'm just not going to buy it, like 2016. I like what I've seen in the beta, it's vastly improved from previous titles, they look like they're really trying to do it justice and I think it's going to be a fun game, but I'm just not going to play it with a joypad when I've got a $5k sim rig in the same room and I don't have the ability to see a monitor from inside that. Big shame, cos I think this one has potential to be great, but such is life.
>>77666249
>There's a mod on PC that makes the female agent nude. One step at a time.
I haven't played the F1 game since 2012 so who?
>>77666934
There's a British agent lady in career mode.
>>77666634
More like their budget is ridiculously small so they don't have the manpower to do everything. Racing games are a small niche, "serious" racing games (AKA not Need for Speed) are a small niche inside that, and F1 games are a small pimple in that small niche's ass cheeks. They just don't have that EA FIFA money to throw at every problem. They've added/improved a lot of stuff in just a year and this game seems stellar so far. Meanwhile Assetto Corsa has done 9000 tire model patches in five years and not much more.
>>77667107
Assetto Corsa has working VR mind you
>>77667148
F1 games have more game modes than just time trial so there's that
>>77667158
Have you tried, jokes aside, the AI in Assetto Corsa since the recent patch? It's actually raceable. And like I said, for my case, F1 games have zero game modes until I can use Oculus.
>>77667168
>>77667158
But yeah, if you've got AC uninstalled, have a go at an AI race now - you might be pleasantly surprised.

I broke down sobbing uncontrollably in the car just outside the office with the general feeling that I had let everyone in the office down and was an utter failure. I didn't want to see them thinking I was a failure.
All I had done was not go in the day before.
I hadn't gone in the day before because I was late waking up. I got fully dressed and had my bag on but couldn't face seeing them and saying "I'm sorry I was late". So instead I went into the front room and lied on the floor beating myself up for something tiny that could've been resolved with a phone call.
At one point I got a 5kg dumbbell and rested it across my neck. I wasn't trying to kill myself or having suicidal thoughts I think I was just acting up to myself.

Tbh, with supreme bad luck, you won't win shit. Alesi won 1 race. So did Panis.
Raikkonen and Button got their WDC's through a massive anamoly and especially Kimi is a hugely talented driver.
You could be Senna-level, but the wrong moves could mean it could never happen for you. Ask Hulkenberg who is still without a podium. Someone like Ricciardo beat Vettel in his first Red Bull-season, yet Vettel seems more likely to win a WDC before he does.
