>Goodell did not attend Ezekiel Elliott hearing

>Conflicting reports have emerged in recent weeks regarding the direct participation of Commissioner Roger Goodell in the events preceding the suspension of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott. Although, as Friday’s letter to Elliott makes abundantly clear, Goodell made the decision to suspend Elliott six games, Goodell did not personally attend the most important meeting regarding the investigation.

>The NFL, after previously not commenting on the matter, has acknowledged that Goodell was not present for the June 26, 2017 hearing that preceded the issuance of discipline. Deadspin.com reported in late July that Goodell didn’t attend any of the hearings involving Elliott.

>With credibility being such a critical aspect of this matter, it’s difficult to make a conclusion about Elliott’s credibility without personally attending the June 26 hearing. While the independent advisors serve as a bit of a buffer, their assessment of Elliott’s overall credibility is no substitute for the credibility assessment made by the person making the decision.

>Per a source with knowledge of the investigation, Goodell also did not meet with Tiffany Thompson, whose credibility also is at issue.

>That’s a clear deviation from standard legal proceedings, especially where a case turns on the resolution of a dispute in witness testimony and recollection. In most if not all other cases, the person making the decision personally assesses the credibility of the key witnesses.

I don't understand the question. Were you under the impression that Andy Reid is a good coach? Did you not google all the titles he won as coach of the Eagles?

If Andy Reid were manager of a Dairy Queen, he would need to be fired, how new are you.

No, but I think they have a lot of winnable games with a better roster than last year. Somewhere between 6-10 and 10-6 and if we somehow make the playoffs it'll probably be gone first round unless it's a really lucky matchup. I think this is still a growing year though and next year is going to be a year going for winning

I wouldn't be shocked at the Texans memeing a win.

I say this because the first quarter of the season is still a feeling-out process.

Why do "experts" always predict in favor of offensive teams?

For example, the Jets have a D- offense and a B defense.
The colts have a D- defense and a B offense. All the experts are predicting colts 7-9 and Jets 2-14.

>>
>>77639592
As good as getting stops is, if you can't do anything with it what good is it?
>>
>>77639592
This is true
Offensive teams are more flashy, that's why. But good ol defense always prevails. Look at the 80s-90s 49ers. Everyone credits cool Joe for their success, but it was really that elite defense.
>>
>>77639628
They don't have Zeke and Dak is going to have a sophomore slump
>>
>>77639643
That's solid logic, but even the most awful of offenses can put up 10-17 points against an average D in today's nfl. And if the jets defense looks like they have in practice/ preseason, they could hold teams below 10-17 consistently. Not a Jets fan ether, just using their example
>>
>>77639643
yeah, I mean look at the '77 Falcons. Top 3 defense all-time, yet their offense was so abysmal that they finished at 7-7 and missed the playoffs.

>>77639592
Problem was the jets were only good at defending the run last year

I think the secondary will be improved because it can't be much worse but it still needs much better pressure off the edge
>>
>the city of the Jest after Enunwa broke his neck
>Taken together, the Jets’ top five remaining wideouts — Robby Anderson, Jalin Marshall, Charone Peake, Chris Harper and Frankie Hammond — average 1.4 years of NFL experience, 18.6 career receptions and 223.8 receiving yards.

Reminder that Derek Carr is in for a HUUUUGE regression this year. Raiders possibly go 8-8 at best this season

yet despite that

Let's not forget that Dak is in one of the best positions for a rookie QB. But besides that overall Sophomore slumps are rare as fuck. Saying Dak will have one is just wishful thinking for Cowboy Haters

>In 2012, Football Nation crunched the numbers. They looked at year-one and year-two data and found 35 quarterbacks who had some success during their rookie season (not first season with significant playing time, mind you), starting at least five games and attempting at least 100 passes, and found that, as a group, their second years were better. The complete group had a higher winning percentage, more attempts, completions, and yards per game, and a higher passer rating their second seasons. The overall findings were that the slump was a real thing, statistically, until the 1980s, but hadn't been true since (good work, 1984 Dan Marino). The study's writer, Scott Kacsmar, concluded:
>>
>>77640579
that doesnt mean a qb cant regress after a great rookie season
I seriously doubt he will have as good of a year
>>
>#Chargers LB Denzel Perryman suffered an ankle injury that will keep him out at least the first 4 games, source said. He may need surgery.

That move to LA really helped.
>>
>>77640685
I think the phins nip isn't too bad. That's the only one I can think of.
>>
>>77640718
He might not have as good of a year but that's completely different than a regression. Regression implies he has a sophomore slump which is unlikely
>>
>>77640116
For those made in his image.
>>
>>77640731
he doesn't have to regress to put up less impressive stats, I don't think the team around him will be as successful, and his stats will falter. If a bunch of people proclaim "sophomore slump" regardless of whether it is true or not, it doesnt change the result
>>
>>77640779
But you are basing him having a regression on....? Like nothing he showed his rookie year would suggest he would regress. The rarely had any mechanical problems, rarely made mistakes, didn't force balls, barely made bad throws. Dak showed all the things his first year that suggest he will be better this year. He could throw for over 4500 yards with more TDs and slightly more INTs with a slightly lower QB rating but that doesn't mean it's a regression.
>>
>>77640853
Not him but makes sense, still don't get pissy when people claim it because to the vast majority, if he has a bad second year it'll mean the rookie slump.

Like you say because there might be more pressure on passing that they will win less games which is wishful thinking. The secondary last year was full of mediocre players being coached up by a good secondary coach, and the rookies are already looking to be better than last years group. The Cowboys defensive front 7 is already one of the best in the league and that was without Jaylon Smith, they were quietly middle of the road in sacks without a true pass rush player and now they have Taco. The Cowboys secondary is already on the rise and trending upward each week. There is practically no question marks for this team. Hell Zeke could win his appeal, the appeal could go on all season and not go into effect until next year.

The only argument of merit people have against the Cowboys is they will have a harder schedule and the Cowboys won't have as many wins as last year, which I agree with because it's hard to get 13 wins let alone 12 wins. And even if Zeke does get suspended the Cowboys have two other previous 1k yard rushers behind him.

I've seen this happen a million times
>>
>>77641445
not having a great rb will make it harder for the qb, and even a third of the year will noticeably impact his stats
the secondary will be inexperienced. I don't care how good the rookies are, or how good the coach is, it takes a few years for secondary players to fully develop into their full potential, and teams will gameplan for their glaring weakness. If the defense can't make stops, and the pressure is put on the offense to keep the score up, running the ball every down is much less an effective gameplan because it just eats up clock time. See packers playoff game: now every team knows how to play a strong passing game and put the score up fast to force the cowboys to throw the ball, and the cowboys let all their secondary players walk for rookies making it even easier for opponents to matchup
the PACKERS DEFENSE (!!!) held the cowboys to a field goal for an entire half, while the offense put up over 20 points. That is how they "stopped zeke", make it ineffective for him to play. Now every single coach in the league saw how they did it, and the cowboys decided to let their entire secondary to leave in the offseason, leaving a huge hole in their defense
I'm not some denial naysayer that thinks the cowboys will regress into a 4-12 team or anything, but damn they will be lucky to win 11 games this year. That will have a huge impact on Dak's stats, even if he is just as good of a player

>not having a great rb will make it harder for the qb, and even a third of the year will noticeably impact his stats
But that doesn't mean that because Zeke is gone that the offense falls apart. Dak could do even better if he throws more. The offense may not be as dynamic without Zeke, but it will operate completely fine with a year wiser Dak and with pretty good back up RBs
>See packers playoff game: now every team knows how to play a strong passing game and put the score up fast to force the cowboys to throw the ball, and the cowboys let all their secondary players walk for rookies making it even easier for opponents to matchup
There were lots of missed opportunities for the Cowboys that game, and Cowboys at the time had no playmakers in the secondary which was easy for a QB like Rodgers to exploit. But Dak proved he is a great QB when the offense HAS to pass when the run game is taken away. There is no reason to think the offense will falter enough without Zeke to have Dak collapse. With the way Dak played it's logical to think his stats would be better with an increased workload.
>but damn they will be lucky to win 11 games this year. That will have a huge impact on Dak's stat
They could go 8-8 and Dak could have an MVP year, their win total has absolutely no bearing on how well Dak would do. Besides the Giants/Eagles have a hard as fuck schedule as well, outside of 2 games their schedule is practically identical to the Cowboys. It's possible that 10 wins wins the division.

But we are getting besides the point. Even with the zeke suspension based on what Dak has shown last year there is no reason to think he will regress when he actually gets a full training camp playing with the 1st team. You can make a point the Cowboys won't win many games with Zeke suspended but with a bigger workload Dak could have better stats in those weeks he's gone than when he comes back.

>I can't wait Tiki. Every year gets sweeter watching you back track and this one will be the best yet.
It's funny I guarantee you were one of those casuals that said Cowboys would go 8-8 and Dak was a bust last year. The one moving the goalpost and back tracking is you

I respect the hell out of tiki to come here everyday and relentlessly defend his team from the relentless shitposting and childish meme insults they rehash and respew every single day when Eagles and Giants fans in the same division say and think even dumber things posting the same retarded shit everyday with less resistance.

But on the other hand he's clearly retarded to come here everyday to do this when every other Cowboys fan doesn't even bother to respond to bait, post in the general, and stick to game threads or separate threads.

The Beastmode game

To give some background on it, the Holmgren era had just ended, Jim Mora jr. skipped town after one mediocre year. We are two years removed from the Sonics leaving and UW football going 0-12. The Mariners are shit, as usual. Everybody and their mother thinks Pete Carroll is a cheat who left USC in order to escape punishment. In terms of sports, optimism was at an all time low in Seattle. In terms of the Seahawks at that point, it wasn't 2005 anymore. There was no Shaun Alexander, no Big Walt, there were no band wagoners, no Wilson, no great defense, and the 12th man thing was an incredibly niche section of fans. (some fans will claim it's not, but I'm not gonna bullshit around. the Us 12s thing was really small from the get go in 1984 until 2012 when it exploded, even during the 2005 super bowl run, it was only a very small part of the fan base.)

Then, somehow, the Seahawks made it into the playoffs after a shaky 7-9 season. They get matched up against the Super Bowl champion Saints. Most people think the Saints will march right over the Hawks, but they do the fucking impossible and pull off the upset thanks to that incredible Marshawn run. It was also Hasselbeck's home last game and arguably the best game of his career. It was such a special game to witness.

C.J. Beathard is better than most people give him credit for. Kendrick Bourne is a good receiver. Watching that connection develop is pretty awesome. Penalties were atrocious and need to be addressed and worked on. Other standouts were Solomon Thomas, Matt Breida, Erik Magnus is making a solid case to be backup center. Aaron Lynch looks good this year so far, Trent Taylor was fun to watch. I would have liked to see more from Reuben Foster.

Overall I feel like this season, while probably not a winning one, will be much better than last. An optimistic 6-10, 7-9 season. at worst 3-13.

I can't wait to see Kittle on the field.

His foot injury is very minor and they're keeping him out for precautionary reasons

When the Jags dump Blake Bortles they will be a perennial playoff team, that's how talented they are. It's pretty amazing that they have enough cap to retain all of the talent they have amassed, and they'll have even more when Bortles is gone next year

Like Jacksonville could sign Robinson, Lee, and Telvin Smith all to massive contracts and still have enough to give someone like Kirk Cousins the money he wants

Jalen Ramsey would already be considered top 5 if he played anywhere except Jacksonville where players don't ever get their just due.

I remember when MJD consistently outproduced Ray Rice and faggots on this board still claimed Rice was better for some reason. Same with Michael Turner. Only RB that was better than MJD in his prime, during his prime, was Adrian Peterson and it's not even close
