The Stub Hub Center looked empty on Sunday as the Chargers held their first game ever in LA. A new poll showed that the Chargers have lost almost 70% of their fan base in San Diego and apparently very few have followed them to LA. The NFL is said to be very embarrassed that an NFL game drew less than a soccer game.
>>
Who didn't see this coming? This is all part of the plan.

>The NFL is said to be very embarrassed that an NFL game drew less than a soccer game.

gonna need a source for that one
>>
What? Are people just expected to follow the teams when they move across the country? What is the point of moving then if you aren't trying to get new fans?
>>
Should've brought home the Raiders
>>

NFL front office, marketing team and market analysts thought there were enough customers in Los Angeles for the Chargers
>>
It's preseason
>>
>>77635518
it is the preseason. with that said, there is no reason for LA to have gotten two teams in two years. they'll start caring when one of the teams starts winning, and they'll stop caring when they lose. such is life for LA
>>
Never should have moved the chargers. Absolute stupidity.

Much as I dislike the Dodgers, their attendance is great. For the last 10 years they've been averaging ~3.5M a year (~45K a game).

Football is a winter sport, and LA doesn't have winter. I always wondered if this was why football was historically the least popular of the major sports there.
>>
>>77636286
There isn't 50 teams in a city like your shitty sport has in your country
>>
>>77636271

What don't you get? The people from san diego only like the chargers because it was "our" team. Not because we actually like the franchise, but because it was "our" franchise. There's some sort of city pride in saying the chargers were our team. Yes they were shit, but they were OUR shit franchise.

Now we have to share them with LA it's less "our" team. We hate LA, we don't like sharing shit. There's no more city pride in going to a chargers game anymore. Now it's like going to any other shitty team's games.
>>

San Diego to LA is about the same distance as NY to Philly, Pittsburgh to Cleveland, Chicago to Green Bay. Think if any of those pairs went to the other city the fan base would go too?

First of all, this whole "LA wanted football" charade is bullshit. The media only showed the vocal minority, which included businesses that would get money from an LA football team regardless of if they succeed. The majority of us don't want a team here (unless it was the Raiders, even then).

Is that what you're saying? Because if you're saying that I can assure you that you're wrong. Why would you make this topic when the season isn't on? The Chargers are still playing this season and they have been the best team in the AFC West for how many years now? They played one of the worst teams in the NFL who just happened to get a fanbase because they're feeding off the energy of rooting for an oreo qb. But you know what? They still fucking suck. The Chargers are one of the best fucking teams in the NFL, just because they went 5-11 last year they'll still win the Super Bowl if the kicker doesn't choke. Maybe you should shut the fuck up before you make retarded topics like this. You know why? Because you're going to be embarrassed when the Chargers profit and someone brings up this topic. Oh look at that, the Galaxy just got called for a flop in front of the goal when they needed to get one, just like FC did. Are you a fucking drunk? Are you retarded? Are you autistic? You are a fucking idiot and you should never make a topic on this board again and I'm fucking serious. I almost have a feeling you're the only guy making all these anti-Chargers topics because you're a faggot hater who doesn't like the team because they're good. Fuck you, be good at something in YOUR life and then maybe try to troll these fucking teams on the board, like I give a fuck. It's so easy to spot out your threads now, you're a retard. Always doing stupid shit like this. Why don't you try to be a good poster? Just for once? For once in your fucking life try not to make a topic like this. That's just you, you're always right at getting it wrong. Fuck you. You are nothing.

Last time LA had a serious pro football fanbase was when the raiders were here not even Mexican or memeing but fact

LA got a franchise that openly snaked them for STL and another that thought you can plug them in for free money

Fuck both of them

I don't know shit about american sports but this makes sense to me. If my team moved to the next city I'd be insulted more than anything.

And why would people from LA jump on a team that just moved there for marketing reasons?
>>
>>77636441
I just heard about this recently. Which .makes it even funnier that the chargers owner thought this would work.
>>
>>77635830
Rams first preseason game had an attendance of seventy thousands.
>>
>>77644719
Because people from LA have no soul, and their two biggest teams already moved from somewhere else for marketing reasons.

>The "Los Angeles" Dodgers (founded in Brooklyn in 1883, moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s)
>The "Los Angeles" Lakers (founded in Minnesota in 1947)

If you're not familiar with the US, this is roughly the equivalent of Bayern Munich moving to Spain and Liverpool FC moving to Portugal. When your two teams are already soulless cash grabs from somewhere else, you don't really care about another one.

How can MLS clubs even compete?
>>
>>77644976
Wow a lot of those stadiums are tiny compared to NFL stadiums, what gives?
>>
>>77644976
Not really a fair comparison, since soccer is England's undisputed #1 sport and the Premier League is its most popular league. Soccer is barely America's 5th-most popular sport, and MLS is only the 4th-most popular soccer league partially because it didn't even exist until the 90s. MLS's attendance is still pretty good (think they average like 23,000 per game league wide, with some teams all the way up in the 40s), but of course they're not on the PL's level.
>>
>>77645046
I think it has something to do with the lack of a salary cap and possibility of relegation. If you're forced to spend all your money on salaries just to stay competitive and you risk getting sent down (where you earn half the money), there's no incentive to invest in NFL-sized stadiums unless you're a team with tons of cash and no fear of every getting relegated. The only teams in that 60,000+ range that every NFL team is in are Arsenal and Man United, and they definitely fit that mega-rich no-fear description.
>>
>>77645046
>Yank doesn't understand populations are different in other countries

Typical doofus yankee doodle/
>>
>>77645074
I don't think its a population issue desu, I was just expecting the average size to be bigger than 30k+ lol

I thought most were gonna be in the 50s with a few big fish in the 70s or even 80s, guessing a lot of these venues are old?
>>
>>77645074
I don't think it's really a population thing. Spurs' stadium is only 30,000 seats but they've shown that they can easily fill 80,000. Chelsea and Liverpool could do the same.
>>
>>77645086
Its a combo of population sizes (Remember, Britain has roughly 20% of the population of US), smaller towns/cities represented (eg. 250k live in Stoke, 210k in Norwich, 136k in West Bromwich) as well as the fact that public funding is non-existant for stadiums (unlike your blithering retard politicians who gladly spunk away millions of local residence taxes on billionaires) and thus teams have a choice of upgrading/building a new stadium and potentially put their clubs status at risk (eg. Darlington folded after they built their new stadium, Southampton fell two divisions and were on the brink before they got bought out and revived).
>>
>>77645145
>as well as the fact that public funding is non-existant for stadiums

This right here just solved the puzzle desu, these mega stadiums in the US are always floated with public bonds and taxes

FUCK THE RAIDERS

The Rams are LA's team and all you faggots know that secretly in your hearts thats why your so fucking boisterous because you faggots ARE the fairweather fans you dipshit. The fucking Rams have been here since the fucking 40's but all of a sudden thanks to niggers and spics all it took was "muh black and silver" to erase any semblance of loyalty to your TRUE home team. FFS you faggots claim to hate norcal so much when you took a norcal team and even when it moved BACK to norcal you STILL slobbered on the tit of the remains of the slaughtered cow that was the shortest tenure of any team in the NFL all while living in the city your supposedly so loyal to. Disgusting. Raiders would have won those Bowls in Oakland had Davis not been a dipshit and FORCED his way into LA for MONEY.

I FUCKING HATE EVERY. SINGLE . ONE. Of you fuckbois who still say this bullshit. 2020 can not come SOON ENOUGH. Then I will never have to see this bullshit phrase ever again. Trump is deporting all your fake asses and the Raiders will no longer even be IN CALIFORNIA FOREVER. I will celebrate the day this happens by going out and buying a Raider jersey only to burn it and parade it around the streets like a flag. I hope you ALL die horrible deaths for being such traitorous cunts you made our ACTUAL TEAM move just YEARS before they were able to put a Hall Of Fame caliber team and won a Super Bowl.

Fuck the Raiders and fuck off

Yes, most cities have just one team. You do realise there are dozens and dozens of cities in the UK, right? You named 4 with more than one team. Your ignorant and your geography is shite.

>>

it's also a bit old the NBA makes a lot more money now after fleecing ESPN/Disney into bankruptcy during the last TV deal.
>>
>>77645046
Asking tax payers to pay for stadiums (which can give you an insane budget) was relatively unheard of in the UK until recently, and even then it's mostly village clubs asking a local council for a few thousand dollars to upgrade a parking lot. English football teams had to pay for new stadiums out of their own pocket, and since upgrading a stadium is cheaper than building from the ground up, most just added seats to grounds that were tucked into the middle of neighborhoods with little room to grow. Now with all the Arab Sheek and TV money, clubs are exploring other options with fewer financial obstacles. God Bless the American Taxpayer.

While the rest of the league may be semi-pro Celtic have one of the best attendances in Europe, the club makes a hefty profit year after year and they're almost guaranteed Champions League or Europa League football each year, providing them with not just a lot of money but a world stage and the opportunity to claim a few scalps. Outside the top 6 or so in England we are bigger than any other club in the UK.

>>77635518
I've lived in 7 different major US cities throughout my life and have visited 48 states at one point or another on business. I meet thousands of different people a year and usually break the ice with small talk about sports. Out of all the people I've met in this country over the years, literally one individual gave two shits about soccer in any capacity. He claimed to be an Arsenal fan. I don't know who these American proxies are that are trying to shill the sport on this board, but it's egregiously disingenuous. If these posters are for real, at the very least, they are non-existent in the business sector (i.e. people who actually have and spend money).

The fact is, soccer has and will always remain an activity for children in this country, a reason for mothers to get out of the house and gossip with each other while the kids play a non-contact game chasing a ball around. Youth soccer season runs almost year round, so it has that advantage over other youth sports. Once kids are old enough, though, they almost without exception drop it to focus more intently on our adult sports. This post isn't meant to trigger soccer fans into replying to it, whether you're really from America, or some international fan reading this. It's just the way it is here. The more you know.
>>
>>77647708
>a lot of money

Celtic are kind of insignificant in terms of finances though. Not even top 30 in Europe for revenue. Obviously that has nothing to do with a club being "big" (Milan is still bigger than Arsenal despite having half the money), but they don't have that much money.

Does LA have a single team that's originally from the city? Even the Rams were originally in Cleveland.
>>
>>77635518
Honestly, I predicted that this would happen. I still believe that the Chargers should have stayed in San Diego, where they belong and where they had been based for the previous 56 years. The Chargers had no business moving to Los Angeles.
>>
>>77635518
Yeah, if I was an executive at the NFL league office, I would be embarrassed too. An NFL team fails to draw 30,000 or more fans for a preseason game? That's embarrassing.

I can say no one in L.A wanted or needed the Chargers. While the Rams can become competitive in L.A, the fact is that this city is a Cowboys and Raiders city first and foremost. And yes it's because of spics, but the NFL really fucked up when it didn't let the ONE team this city really gives a shit about not move back here. In terms of popularity of sports teams in L.A, any real not retarded Angelino will tell you it's:

1. Lakers
2. Dodgers
3. USC FB
4. Raiders

5. UCLA FB
6.UCLA BB
7. Kings

Legit can't tell if bait or not but look at it this way

Rams had 30 years in LA before moving to Anaheim to capture the city

In their only bowl year in LA they were barely popular looked at as a third rate team behind the Lakers and dodgers who both were consistently good

They moves to Anaheim because they failed in LA and failed harder in Anaheim in a faster time

Raiders come in with such a small socal fanbase popular only to some folks as a second team to the niners.

13 years they played in LA maybe more don't remember

It only took them 2 years to capture the city

Why is that
For one they won a chip on LA and everyone here knows you need rings to be de facto kings of LA
They actually interacted with the fanbase rather than show up to work and leave , ursay was a dog shit owner for the rams and the next owners were even terrible now they have kroenke who made it public that he doesn't care about winning championships which was a absolute complete opposite to the Davis family that were always in the headlines like lasorda and magic were back then

Long story short they fit the LA image while the rams tried to make a image and pass it off as a LA thing
They failed and will continue to fail so long as the raiders are close by now they'll never be successful

So what? NFL teams routinely hit 40,000 or more for preseason games. Some teams can get 25,000+ for a practice. I'm pretty sure Green Bay once sold out Lambeau for a scrimmage. And the Chargers can't even get 25,000 for their first home game, in a city of 3,000,000 and a metro area of like 10,000,000+? Pathetic.
