Wirth Research's proposed 2018 Indycar aero concept.
I'm glad we got what we did instead of this.
The radiators being moved where they needed to be along with the removal of the air box make it much more attractive than this.
Wirth was responsible for the Honda 2015 aero kit that was laughably outmatched by the Chevy.

Depends on the role. Any heavy lifting like Tyre carriers and fuel carriers are usually ex-college athletes who don't make the pro drafts or Olympic team that teams recruit in combines held on the off season. Changers who hit the lugs are usually mechanics (Though if you have a background in Athletics it helps). Jackman can be either but usually a mechanic as if they have problems on the car on pit road then the changers and jackman can work on it. Especially this year with the Crash Clock being introduced.

He is a development driver for the SMP LMP1 car at the very least.
It's likely that ACO is going to be making big changes to the LMP1 class in order to accommodate privateer entries, it needs them.

I'm more curious as to who will get his seat in Indycar.
There are a lot of questions going into the 2018 Indycar season and, from what is rumored, the #7 SPM car will be a fully funded effort with a hired driver.
>>
>>77629035

Sebastian Saavedra is the safe bet to fill out the rest of the season for SPM. Still no idea who might get that ride next year though if the rumors of Arrow fully funding the #7 turn out to be true.

>, the #7 SPM car will be a fully funded effort with a hired driver

how can this be? they can't even run the #5 with their own money
>>
>>77630237
James Hinchcliffe doesn't bring any money, Arrow Global fully sponsors that ride.
It's believed that either Arrow will be stepping up their program to allow Sam to hire yet another driver or he has another sponsor lined up for the 7 entry.

Not that we didn't really expect this given that Mid Ohio trap speeds were up 5mph at a shorter high DF track, but I would expect the new car to crack that barrier at Road America next year when teams run very flat wing angles and play with set ups to find the best balance of DF to drag.

>Monster is going to leave after this year

Monster's not leaving yet, but supposedly they are really unhappy with France and want more power over race weekend decisions. Monster suggested more bands and race day activities. NASCAR Mothership kept on suggesting country acts while Monster had modern day pop, hip hop and rock acts they already work with interested. Supposedly the deal is going great with regards activation and sales. It's been a profitable venture for them (And they were only doing it as a favor for Coca Cola) but where the deal is getting rocky is the culture clash because Monster's not being allowed do what they are with other Motorsports they sponsor and have a bigger influence how the event is run. Even the small FIA WRX events they do, they usually bring in local bands and make it a mini festival.

Pulling funding from the 41 to push it more into title sponsor activation might be an aggressive move against NASCAR trying to push back their plans.

that makes total sense. they should do more of that but >nascar. would be more of a weekend than the shitty show they put on when cup drivers in lower leagues lol
>>
>>77643335
Indy Weekend was the only time Monster really got their way because Indy already had a bit of autonomy in their weekend plans and planning a second music festival in the snakepit, like the 500. Monster brought in bigger acts and the weekend's attendance was well above previous years (Monster brought in Chainsmokers which is one of the big normie popular acts). Moving Indy to the last race before the playoffs when it's not boiling hoty as fuck and running a mini-music festival is smart (And the racing will probably be better because the restrictor plate meme worked in Xfinity).

That's the talk going around silly season and it was the guy who called Carl Edwards retiring who posted it. Monster's really happy with the title sponsorship and it's enough that they are taking the sponsorship for the 41 car and re-investing it in the sport (Gene Haas isn't really angry about it either because the money's not being taken out of the sport), but they are unhappy with how NASCAR is doing things and the relationship is "rocky" between both sides of management at the minute.

>>77644158
That 400 Fest was a complete and utter mess and left a lot of egg on NASCAR's face. Tickets for the concert didn't include tickets for the Xfinity and Cup races, and the event with the Chainsmokers and DNCE started AFTER the Xfinity race.

The concert drew 8000 people, you can go back and watch the Xfinity broadcast and you can tell none of them were in the stands, they just waited until the race was over and went to the concert.

>>
>>77649584
I watched a video that predicted that Ed Jones could fill the seat next year since his Indy Lights money will be gone and Arrow is rumored to be fully funding both rides. With that kind of situation it could be anyone, though. He's almost definitely out of the ride at Dale Coyne in favor of Gutierrez who can front some cash. Hopefully he can stay in the series though, he's had some good drives.

Sebastian Bourdais has been cleared to drive by his doctor.
An incredible recovery considering his severe crash at Indianapolis.
Don't expect him to drive at Pocono this weekend, Dale might put together a third car for Esteban Gutierrez for the remainder of the season.

Bourdais return is likely going to be Gateway or Watkins Glen(almost certain)

SPM is expected to announce the #7 driver soon, expect it to be Sebastian Savaadra.

Indycar at Pocono Weekend Schedule.
Practice 1 - Aug 19, 9:00AM ET (Streamed)
Qualifications - Aug 19, 1:00PM ET (NBCSN)
Final Practice - Aug 19, 5:00PM ET (Streamed)
Race - Aug 20, 2:00PM ET (NBCSN)

This is another race that would benefit from being a Saturday race. I don't know that Pocono has lights installed, but you could still get away with holding the race around 3-4pm or so without worrying about light.

Exactly, it's not so much the schedule conflicts either, but there's only Sat+Sun on the schedule anyway.
Saturday race gives people time to travel home and reduces costs for some people. It allows people with work obligations on Monday to come to the race as well.

It would absolutely increase attendance to have a condensed schedule on every oval except Indy.
All Sunday RC/SC races must start at 1pm ET as well, that grants people time to get home.

I guess becuase I am a psuedo normie now and work sometimes on Mondays (3 12s a week) that i would be fucked out of my money becuase no way they restart a race and dry the track if it starts after 3pm. More than that if the rumor GMS are shutting down the truck team is true. Current word on that is they are going to shut the trucks down to one part time truck in 2018 and run two full time Xfinity cars in 2018 before running a Full time and part time cup car in 2019.

It's more that they started throwing Cup driver sponsor dollars at it after Harvick couldn't be fucked to quit Busch when he replaced Dale and everyone realized that driving 1000 race miles of debris caution car with a schedule full of cookie cutters, in car blowers, and a personal trainer is really easy.

The most awful one is that Edwards went straight from Trucks to Cup -then- became a full time Busch driver at the same time.

The cup series has no """""Aero""""" now with a smaller splitter and a tiny spoiler. The problem is that the teams are sealing the fucking body off to the ground everywhere they go. They need to go to less aero dependent tracks and reduce the size of the rear quarter panels to start.

Look at how small the rear quarter panels were on the Gen 4. They weren't glued to the track making mega side force doing 185 in the corners at Michigan and Kansas.
>>
>>77678572
They don't run any diffusers or ground effects?
The current cars produce 4000lbs of DF, so where is that coming from?
>>
>>77678650

They're not supposed to run ground effects but the big teams how underbodies that are pretty slick. Downforce is coming from the body and how low its sealed off to the ground.

>>

>The current cars produce 4000lbs of DF
The fuck they are, maybe 3 or 4 years ago. NASCAR's estimates were 3500lbs in 2014, 2700lbs in 2015, 1800lbs in 2016, and 1500lbs in 2017.

But the cars have a fuckton of sideforce from the big slab sides that keeps them going around the corner on ovals.

I went through a few 2004 videos and they all have spread out segments but overall there is more close action that we see today. My last favorite year was like 2011 and some of 2012, races were good those years. Gen 5 ironically.

Glad we agree they make too much fucking sideforce.
>>
>>77679055
What it "sideforce" exactly?
Does it produce Downforce?
It looks like those side pods create a lot of drag and punch a hole in the air that would allow cars to follow closer, but potentially not be able to pass when entering clean air.
That's my best guess, set me straight.

It's designed asymmetrically to create a rotational force in corners.
Nvm.

Last year NASCAR ran a test car with a symmetric rear end, sports car style radiator ducting, and a raised splitter but for some reason they've only implemented tiny parts of it so far like the no rear steer rule. Still kind of hoping it comes next year when everyone throws out their old SS bodies and the shit lazy Camaro nose on an SS body was just an announcement mockup.

>>77679121
I don't know there was plenty of good racing in the last 3 years compared to the god awful mid-00s until TROOECKS happened.
>>
2014 was a good year for racing with the Gen 6 car. Not sure why Nascar went away from that.

I think the race team council or driver's council or whatever it is now ended up vetoing the shit out of the X-3 because they would rather have shit racing then to spend money on a new car so soon.
>>
>>77679965

Yeah I think the X-3 was shelved and they're going to work on something completely different for the "Gen 7" or whatever fucking number we're up to.
>>
>>77678749
>Look at how shit races have been lately.

This season has been better than last season, and last season was WAY fucking better than the season before.

14 different drivers won races so far this season, compared with 13 for all of last season, and 12 for the season before that.

When Roush, CGR, and RCR are landing in victory lane now instead of muh Hendrick/JGR/Penske uber teams, you know they've made some improvements.
>>
>>77680073
let's not kid ourselves here

Roush has two meme wins from restrictor plate bullshit
CGR has Larson who has been fast since he jumped into a car
RCR's two wins were from strategy

It's not like these guys are outrunning the 78 and 18 who are stomping ass every week. The 78 is making a joke of the playoff point system so far.
>>
>>77680446
>The 78 is making a joke of the playoff point system so far.
only to lose it all at Homestead to Gimmie
>>
>>77680446
>let's not kid ourselves here

You're the only one kidding yourself if you think the racing hasn't been improved over the past 2 seasons.
>>
>>77680446
maybe if he makes enough of a mockery of it they'll ditch the stupid fuckin playoffs altogether.

a man can dream.
>>
>>77677612
he was actually running his first full season in Busch at the same time as his first full season in Cup because at the time there actually were a few Cup and Busch tracks that Trucks didn't go to. His jump to Cup was because of the release of Jeff Burton, and Roush had no Busch Series call up so it fell to Carl from the Truck ride. The problem was, he just never stopped running all the Busch races in the 60
>>
been thinking about this too...

If Brad and Kyle do decide they're shutting down their Truck teams because they can't drive them next year, who's to say that Toyota and Ford aren't just going to take over their equipment/teams? Do you really think they're just going to give up these development programs? Hell, maybe Red Horse will come back with more support from Toyota and a fleet of KBM trucks?

Either that, or I see Gibbs and Penske putting more into existing teams (like Thorsport for Gibbs, and maybe the 92 or Empire for Penske).

Only interesting tidbit here is that Indycar's 2018 Speedway Aero kit produce 88% of it's downforce from the underwing.

Correction.
There was one more interesting thing in the video.
You can see the air disturbance produced by the original DW12 and the new Aero.
I guess the question is then is it better to be able to follow well in the corners with the 2018 kit, or take advantage of the huge wake produced by the original DW12 on straights allowing drivers to pull up easier.

>>77680831
Nah the Frances will keep the sport going until every last shekel can be squeezed from it. As long as manufacturers want a playground, NASCAR will survive.

The biggest thing coming up in the next few years is the TV deal. NASCAR lied their asses off to NBC and Fox and ratings have been even worse since they signed the deal that got rid of ESPN and brought in NBC. The networks are chomping at the bit to restructure that before it expires. That will be what ends up sending the sport into a death spiral, having all the races end up being on Fox Sports 3 or some shit.
