You may be right in that way: Middle America likes beer and sports and not anything that has to do with social topics like the ones in the OP. But outside that, America is changing very quickly. The president is the last hope to hold on to how America has been as we know it. He is our oldest president ever, and the ideas he represents are the old interpretations of new topics. I think they're better at it because its a sports channel and they have to lay out the positions and the issues for to make any sense. They are able to do this because sports fans are more engaged in sports related topics. I feel like many sportswriters are just plane more relatable and I've seen even shitty sportswriters bring up great points and perspectives on some issues. Also they're slightly less of a bunch of shills than MSNBC and CNN so it seems a little more balanced. They also analyze the business side of said politics and how it effects franchises and leagues because again, sports fans are more engaged cause "muh sports" so they can actually talk about boring shit.
