Nobody in Melbourne will ever care about the Rebels. They have nine AFL teams and another one just down the highway in Geelong. Each of those ten Victorian teams is bigger than any Australian Super Rugby side. They have two A-League teams including the biggest in the country. They have a highly successful NRL side.

Where is the room for the rebels? Especially since, lets face it, the Rebels had no chance of being as successful as the Melbourne Storm who nobody in Melbourne cares about anyway.

Under Wessels the Force were one of the best teams in Australia despite operating with about three quarter of the salary of the fucking Tahs (Wallabies top up contracts) had financial support from all of us who bought in with Save the Force and had Twiggy Forrest.

Perth also only has two AFL teams, no NRL teams and the Force was much bigger than our A-League side.

On performance and finance you can't cut Perth over Melbourne. On market size and growth prospects you can't cut Perth over Canberra.

Basically this. The Force were the 2nd best Aus team this year, and had the financial backing of the state government and of a billionaire. They were cut because it was easy, not because it was good.

But it's easy to make comparisons to the Rebels and even the Brumbies. I'm still not convinced a team should have been cut at all. The Super Rugby system is shit, but making the Aus conference 4 teams while NZ has 5 and SA (inc Argies and Japan) have 6 only creates more confusion.

The simple solution was a delegation/relegation system. Bring in a Fijian and a Samoan team and then have two 10-team leagues where the top team in the 2nd-tier league gets put up and the bottom team in the 1st-tier league gets put down.
