If you watch the comparison at meatspin.fr where one is literally over top of the other, you can see when they are doing the exact same moves, messi's moves are crisper and faster than Rondaldo's.
Not saying Rondaldo isn't great or is slow or anything, but the video speaks for itself.

Messi is on a different planet. Ronaldo had to sacrifice a huge part of his game just so he could keep up with Messi's goal output, while Messi does it effortlessly while also being the world's best playmaker. There have been a handful of players in football history that have come close to Messi's talent and peak performance, but none of them compare when it comes to consistency, longevity and productivity, and that's why he's the GOAT.

Theyre both great players, but one is better than the other in certain things. Ronaldo is more of a distance shooter with a powerful knuckleball and messi is a fantastic dribbler with great pace to get right past defenders to curve the ball into the net. At that point its about what you like more :)

messi is great from a few metres outside the box like all his short free kicks, he has pretty much never tried a shot from 30ish metres, he doesn't need to of course but ronaldos belters are a big addition to making him a more versatile forward
