For me its the Washington Nationals vs The Los Angeles Dodgers.
These two teams have what it takes to be elite. The elite rotation complimented with frightening bullpens will be a baseball fan's dream come true. The offensive fronts of both teams will prove lethal to any pitcher coming their way. Two of the greatest teams in the majors this decade will spar in a glorious matchup! Cant wait!!

nobody knows, cause the posting system isn't in place.
most of NPB teams want a limitless system, while the rich NPB teams (the Giants and Hawks) and the poor MLB teams want no limit.
Honestly, MLB is always trying to fuck over the Japanese and it's really getting to them. They started hunting the Japanese prospects and taking them from Japan, which there was a gentleman's agreement to not do so.
Also, these Japanese stars are so important that a guy like Shohei Otani is the only reason the Ham Fighters are still around and getting a new stadium. MLB either turns these NPB players into studs (see Darvish), or wastes their talent (see Daisuke Matsuzaka). MLB now wants to cap that at $20 million, a fraction of what Shohei Otani is worth.

The MLB didn't "waste" Matsuzaka's talent. It wasn't like what the Mets did with Syndergaard where the team and staff overworked and physically destroyed him. His first year in the MLB was getting signed to the team that would go on to win the world series that year for 52 million dollars. The Red Sox made him a starting pitcher and when he was no longer competitive in a major league way. The problem is not the MLB, it's just delusion on your end for falling for the hype and thinking "Matsuzaka was entitled to a hall of fame or at least multi Cy Young worthy career!". He was given a thousand times the chances most prospects ever get and he couldn't get the results.

Not to mention, the MLB can't swoop in on any of these guys without the senior ownership/league/handler guys interceding or approving. Picking up a Japanese prospect is nothing like a Latino one.

Then there is the fact that the NPB, though impressive for a foreign country, is still basically a joke compared to the MLB. The NPB clubs make short sighted, 'irrelevant to winning baseball', management decisions that embarass most MLB clubs. There are shitty owners and GMs in the MLB (Marlins especially atm) but there is definitely a sense of parity and a will to win.
>>
>>77419282
Matz helped the red sox win the WS in 2007.. what more do you want?
>>
>>77419289

I didn't argue that point. He was a great number 3 starter after Beckett and Schilling that year. The gentleman only said the league "wasted his talent", which is absurd.

You know, for a country as baseball crazy as Japan, i'm surprised the NPB doesn't do better financially. They certainly get the attendance, but it seems like they have a real problem with financial management. Pretty much every team outside of Hanshin and Yomiuri would be in the red if it wasn't for their corporate sponsors. Considering the population density of Japan, a 12 team league feels pretty small as well.

You also get weird situations like the Orix Buffaloes, which is a merger of the former Orix BlueWave and the Kintetsu Buffaloes. They split their home games between Orix and Kobe, the former locations of the two franchises.
>>
>>77419282
Syndergaard isn't physically destroyed.
Go ahead, give me (you)'s, I don't care. But there's no proof that he's physically destroyed.

I think they have some agreement where the club selects where they go.
I don't know the specifics, but it's seriously retarded.

>>77419267
I agree 100%. MLB has it's head up it's ass to the point that they're destroying the game worldwide. They destroyed KBO by plundering prospects, if NPB doesn't dig it's heels in then they'll die too.

>>77419282
Biggest issues:
1. Making him the most expensive Japanese player
2. Making him a $100 million player
3. Not letting him train how he needed to
4. Not having him be properly trained to adapt to MLB, because a 6'5 pitcher will be fine while someone smaller needs better training to adapt
I know what I'm talking about because one of my professors is a longtime sox fan and also wrote an entire book on Daisuke.
Also, you know jackshit about NPB and should really stop acting like you do. NPB isn't a joke, it's a high quality league that is the best non-MLB league in the world.
Also, Japanese players can be poached before they sign NPB contracts and have been poached. MLB has more money to offer and before now would have never tried to interfer, but now is trying to disrupt the natural flow.

>>77419317
Blame the J-League for competing with NPB and the new generation of Japanese people. Orix is a weird situation but that's mostly the fault of the league rather than the teams. They wanted to expand but only had one potential team, so they contracted.
>>
>>77419347
that's the Japanese soccer league, right? Didn't realize it was doing that well.

This is cringeworthy. So, Matsuzaka being treated like a prima donna and not being treated like a prima donna was his ruin? Sorry, you can't have things two, three, four different ways and going full Matsuzaka Internet Defense Force with childish arguments like "you don't know shit" and ">muh professor" is comical.

Get fucked, he was mediocre at the MLB level.
>>
>>77419375
He was an elite pitcher in 2008.

Then he got injured like 3 seasons in a row and that fucked him up forever.
>>
>>77419395
Yeah, special training to acclimate to a MLB schedule is no joke. Dice-K's body didn't adjust and it showed.
>>
>>77419362
It is doing actually pretty well. Enough to take away attention from the NPB. But, even as a whole Japan isn't really intrested in sports like they used to. The same thing happened in MLB, where guys like Mantle and Mays are seen as gods and cultural icons while nowadays we have Lebron James and Connor McGregor. who are seen as celebrities and superstars. Gods don't exist anymore.
Also, since Japan has had so many potential Legendary players leave, many Japanese teams don't have the same stars that they used to. Along with this, baseball used to be a massive cultural event as it was what pretty much brought the country out of the shithole post-WW2 and gave the Japanese something to be proud of. You think you love baseball? You should see how much they loved it. It was their only constant in a world that seemed chaotic and uncertain.

>>77419375
you really know nothing about how Japanese pitchers are made, do you? These are players who in high school are regularly pushed to the limits. The only comparison I have ever heard to their training is the Soviet athletic system. Japanese players as a whole push themselves to their physical limits, further than 99% of US trained players. Why do you think a legend like Larry Doby couldn't even cut it? If the league was so shit wouldn't he be great in it?
>Get fucked
That was more childish than anything I said.
Also, training has nothing to do with being a prima-donna. You have to help a young player develop in the right way, but not discourage him from what he knows. What if Hank Aaron was told to not hit so hard and be a contact hitter, because he was only 170lb? He wouldn't be in Cooperstown, that's for sure.

>>77419404
Another great point, NPB only plays 66% of the games that MLB plays.
>>
>>77419282
you act like syndergaard is preparing for advanced Tommy John and his career is fucking over. I want him to fail as much as any insecure doyer fan but he has a torn lat, not an overworked elbow ffs
>>
>>77419425
Why the fuck would we give a shit about a team with their fluke tier pitchers that isnt even gonna make the playoffs?

Keep projecting tho canadabro
>>
>>77419347

NPB is AAA level, hardly impressive. Considering Japan's population and baseball being relatively more popular there than it is here they produce a pathetically small amount of quality baseball players.

And I'm pretty sure the J League has little to do with NPB not being financially successful, MLB faces much stiffer competition than that. NPB is still the most popular league in Japan, MLB is not even close to being more popular than the NFL. NBA, NHL, and NCAA are popular also yet MLB manages to be wildly successful financially, all of our big sports leagues are. NPB is just retarded as a league, partially voluntarily since the teams just act as marketing for their parent company instead of like an independent business.
>>
>>77419411
You seem to be the one who doesn't understand Japanese pitchers.

Kenta Maeda literally underwent special strength training over the offseason to adjust to the 9 inning, 162 game schedule.

Dice K's body fell apart wishing a couple years of MLB.

Gotta give credit to the Dodgers, when it comes to talent scouting in Asia, they have made a stronger effort than other clubs to try and make it work.
>>
>>77421920
I'm a Doyer fag. Calhoun was never going to work in the NL. He plays go Defense. But his bat can work and work big time. Honestly he could be Jose Altuve but with more bombs instead of hits.

The Dodgers won that trade because we were able to keep Verdugo and Buehler. Verdugo is a good athlete who will hit for average like Nick Markakis (.300 hitter) and Buehler has a chance of being a really good number 2.

I like the other 2 prospects we gave away tho. They both seem like high upside players who could potentially be MLB starters down the road. All I know is that Texas got better players than any that Detroit got for there trades.
>>
Yankees are in full attack mode again. I think the team finishes with 95 wins.
>>
>>77422412
>The Dodgers won that trade
The Rangers won the trade. Getting literally anything for a player whose contract is up at the end of a hopeless season is always a win. Whether the Dodgers benefit from the trade will depend on Yu's performance, you can't call it a "win" yet.

Willie Calhoun has a great bat, but he's not an elite fielder. He'll be a fine DH for the Rags.

Without postseason victories, those are just ESPN-tier stat dives.

The premier objective of baseball is to win the world series, to fall short of that and earn a pennant is noteworthy. Anything can happen this year and no team looks better at the moment, but the Dodgers have a history of being paper tigers.

I hate the Giants more than I do the Dodgers (in fact I even sort of like the Dodgers) but it's more impressive to have 3 world series wins in a 5 year span and fluctuate through the division standings than it is to have a thirty year "dynasty" that never wins anything. It's an obscure stat dive and something a loser would pull out to justify losing.

You're missing the point. A regular season win's bottom line value is to put your team in the playoffs.
>>
>>77423292
How is that obscure that the Dodgers have the best MLB regular season record THIS DECADE?

Only few teams really have an upper hand in that. The Dodgers, Mariners, Rangers, and Yankees might be the only proven successful teams in that regard. The Red Sox and Mets being the biggest failures in that regard. Aside from this, the NPB to MLB flow has substantially decreased since the past decade, the only reason why people are conflating the flow is because of Ohtani's fanfare, in which he won't cross until next year at least. Teams have been holding onto their stars more than ever and players like Matsuda on Softbank decided to take long term deals over playing in the MLB. So I don't think the NPB is in tatters as much as many here do. And as someone who goes to Japan almost every year, I can confirm the NPB remains the most popular league and baseball remains the most popular sport based on culture alone. From high school tournaments to Koshien to college leagues like Tokyo Big 6 and yes, to the NPB, it's what they have as we do to football.

We keep going in circles. The objective is not regular season wins, it is World Series victories.

A logical team does not say "how do we have winning regular seasons over the next 30 years?", it says "how do we win the World Series or put ourselves in a position to win the World Series?". A 30 something win record for the White Sox is justified if the moves they make result in a World Series victory in a few years. For a team to never have a phase where it is utterly abysmal is perhaps a sign thay it did not have the spine to completely reconstruct themselves.

The Royals were undoubtedly one of the worst, if not the worst, teams of the 00s but they went to the World Series twice and won big once in the 2014 and 15 respectively. To leap from total obscurity to ultimate victory is an accomplishment. To remain perpetually above average and never win big is sad and depressing.

The Diamondbacks are more successful than the Giants. That's how much us Dodgers fans could care less about them. The real NL West rivalry is Dodgers-Diamondbacks because of Greinke being a snake to us and plunking Puig twice since his departure. Bumshit is too pussy to even try us.

it would make very little sense for the teams to hate each other since they see each other so infrequently. Sure, Yankees and Mets fans hate each others teams but it's not like Brian Cashman is going to go tooth and nail to block the Mets getting a great prospect because they are in no real danger from them. not renaming the stadium doesn't necessarily imply that they're doing it for reasons other than monetary. you got a historic park like wrigley that definitely has a lot of companies lining up to put their name on it, which means you got upwards of what, 30, 40mil staring you in face? business owners don't take those kinds of decisions lightly, so if they're refusing to rename it it means they have an alternative strategy. wrigley field merch is doubtlessly going to sell better to casuals than American Airlines Park merch, for example

has there ever been a situation where a player barely qualified through 162 games, but then his team played a play-in game and he didn't start, thus disqualifying him?

it seems like an incredibly rare situation that's only possible because the rule stipulates you need X amount of PA/IP per TEAM GAME, as opposed to just setting it to 502 PA/162 IP total. I get that the point of it is to qualify people throughout the season instead of just the end though

A pure hitter gets the most hits of any kind. Power hitters hit for more power.

Ichiro got the most hits, and thus is the best hitter.

>>77426958
That's not counting his nip league hits, which obviously would've transferred over which is why everyone knows Ichiro is the legitimate all-time hit leader.

The conditions which define the best pure hitter are indeed the ones I deem fair when arguing who the best pure hitter is.

>nip league hits

Would obviously have transferred over because we saw them transfer over when he came to mlb. His best seasons offensively were in fact in America. Nobody denies the Ichiro is the Legitimate All-Time Hits leader.

The other 20 people ahead don't exist, so that's the reason they don't count I suppose.

woweeeee the retardation and denial

just give up
>>
>>77427174

except the actual list of career hits puts Ichiro in twenty second place and nip league hits don't count.

>>
>>77422895
LOL wut?
>>
>>77427248

Except according to the official scoring body of the MLB, they didn't transfer over. It's a different league.
>>
>>77427275
>according to the official scoring body of the MLB

What does that even mean? Of course they don't count as MLB hits. But if he had played in MLB since he starter pro baseball he would be the MLB hits leader. In any case, he is the professional all time hits leader in any league.
>>
>>77427296

ok, so if you count NPB hits, Ichiro is at 4,338.

if you count Pete Rose's minor league career, he is at 4,557 hits. Those hits would have transferred over because he was going to hit those anyway (your logic).

So Pete Rose is the professional all time hits leader.

The old farts who decide HOF are dumb to say the least. But they are steadfast on 2 things- No steroids and no crybabbies. AGon has no chance
>>
>>77427372
Except he wouldn't because minor leagues is an amateur league, npb is a professional league.
>>
>>77427380

but Wikipedia says they are a professional league just like the NPB.
>>
>>77427397
The minor leagues are an amateur development league. You get paid but it's not a real professional league, player development is prioritized over winning. In npb winning is all that matter, since it's a professional league.
>>
Guys there's a new thread.
>>
>>77427410

hmm that sounds completely non-factual and more like a distinction you just created and the NPB is famous for having ballclubs that do not operate like independent businesses devoted for winning.
>>
pete rose is the all time leader in hits and gambling profits
