Americans in denial will always claim its some kind of counter-culture group that likes domestic soccer, this is 46k in the South which historically dislikes soccer, but the detractors will always say

It should be TV ratings and sales that determines popularity. That's unfortunate though, sport is business. Unless you live in a smaller area where your local team is loved by much of the townies it's always going to be niche one way or another. Thinking otherwise is cognitive dissonance.
>>
>>77414674

MLS is growing that is the argument, if you deny this you clearly don't know anything about it. Nobody is claiming MLS is a high level league, just that its enjoyable to support your local team and watch the sport grow here. Rome wasn't built in a day, Barcelona and Real Madrid weren't built in a day, do you think in the 30's people were shitting on Barca and Real Madrid how nobody cared about them? Of course not.

CenturyLink Field allows 70.000 seats for an NFL game but for the MLS only the lower sections are opened to the public because it is better to have a full upper section than half-empty. I know, it is strange, but it is real. This is why the NFL teams must sell 98% of their seats or aren't broadcasted in the market area.

But with the upper section closed, Seattle still has more people on average than >my team, and I speak about Paris, because >our stadium is smaller.

At least, >we are sure to fill all sections. And even more if Neymar comes.

It would be perfect if, without the playoffs, a NBA team would have 58 games per year. You know, two games against every other NBA team. Or at least having usefull divisions and 12 (or 14) teams in playoffs.

And, this conferences and divisions thing is bullshit in NBA. It makes sense in NFL because an AFC team plays almost only against AFC teams, and because you can have two teams in the same market from different conferences, but in NBA, what means having the Clippers and the Lakers ?

that could be the best move PSG could ever do in its history. Parisians already like him, he wears a style loved here, and PSG history has always been writen with brazilian artists (and other failhueres).

And if one thing could make us forget the 6-1, it is that.

And the MLS just replaces the NASL, with some lag.

Plus, in Europe, before WW2, professional athletes were forbidden in almost all sports (and even in the Olympics). You just can't compare a time when you needed 3 hours to go 100 miles.

A good point is that MLS is more offensive than Ligue 1. A bad point is that Ligue 1 defenders are technically better than MLS midfielders.

But the MLS can be interesting, if you select your games. Watching a game in Seattle, Philly or Brooklyn can be fine because there's atmosphere, but in LA it's boring as hell and the sun on field makes the picture ugly.

MLS needs to pop out the salary cap or at least increase it because you need a fuckton of money to attire great ones. Plus MLS teams need to make their own young players, the college system can't work when the rest of the world can pay 10 millions per year a 18 years boy.

Does anyone actually like American divegrass fans here besides other American divegrass fans? Normal Americans hate them because they shill soccer with every waking moment and everyone else hates them because they're American.
>>
>>77417119
I'd rather have a few top teams seal-club in MLS and compete on an international level than a bunch of internationally irrelevant teams all fighting to prove which is the most relevant.

I honestly cannot stand American sports fans. Why they think clubs shouldn't be able to reinvest their earnings into their own teams if fucking beyond me.

I'm 34, lived in 7 different cities, and have visited 48 states at one point or another for work. Met a shit ton of people and usually try to make small talk about sports before anything else, as that's a good ice breaker. Out of everybody I've met, literally one was a soccer fan. I have no idea where these soccer fans are in this country, but they certainly aren't in the business sector in any capacity.

the salary cap is fine, but like you said they just need to let teams sign more Designated Players (players that dont count against the cap) the cap is good because it will prevent us from becoming like England where their mediocre players are extremely over valued and over paid for what they actually bring. MLS is fun because results aren't foregone conclusions and literally any team can beat another team

>>77417197
But the PL is the most popular soccer league and none of their clubs compete internationally..

>>77417381
thats because MLS fans are usually young without being in high paying jobs, its ironic because you're 34 and have met 1 soccer fan yet I'm 24 and most of my friends are soccer fans and know about our local team and have gone to games

>>77419325
anyone that says Americans don't care about soccer is just biased against it anyway, they'll refuse to accept that the sport is taking over here, you've seen it with the big euro leagues and international games, once MLS has grown more and more relevant and skilled players you'll see the casuals who don't blindly hate soccer/MLS start to take an interest
>>
>>77422372
>the salary cap is fine
yes and afaik its purpose is to avoid the fate of NASL (bankrupt).
Anyway MLS is good for your soccer because it gives a sustainable workmarket for your young soccer players, a thing you didn't have in the '80s
>>
>>77422425
yeah the NASL showed that free spending doesn't work here. we just dont have that tribal generational support of clubs to support them if they fade into irrelevancy, they just die off. MLS grows slowly year by year and invests into their academies and being sustainable, nobody especially people that actually watch MLS thinks its a top class league but it is getting better and its enjoyable to see the sport grow as the league produces and attracts a higher quality of player

There's a reason why Americans can't understand football. American sports(for the most part)are soulless; they represent nothing. They are called franchises for a reason, a team can move from one city to another and no one bats an eye.

But football is part of European culture. Look at the old firm. Protestants and British royalists vs Catholic Scots. Look at the eastern european football clubs, they aren't just franchises made by a billionaire to attract people.

>Levski Sofia
Was created by High School students in downtown Sofia.
>Fenerbahce
Was created by Greek descendants of one of the most prominent neighbourhoods of Constantinople.
>PAOK and AEK
Created by immigrant students from the Minor East catastrophe.
>Panathinaikos
Created to spread footblal in Greece and represented the upper class of Athens.
>Olympiakos
Represented the lower and working class of the docks.

You can look at basically most football clubs in europe and you will find a century worth of history.

>>77448795

Baseball and Hickey are dying/decreasing in a lot of parts of the country, so it makes sense that soccer would improve. I don't think it has any chance of overtaking College basketball/football, NBA, or NFL any time soon though. Maybe it beats CBB in 20-30 years.

Honestly it's even more impressive when you consider that they get full attendance in the horrific Atlanta summer heat and humidity (90°F+ with >90% humidity everyday), and they play at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Georgia Tech, which has almost no space for tailgating or parking, nor good means of public transport. Being a Georgia Tech student I've seen all the people who show up to these games, and it's very well-mixed, mostly white, and surprisingly pretty even Hispanic and black people attendance.
