Overall viewership is down last season. Under 35 year olds don't watch much sports at all. Plus many parents aren't letting their kids play football anymore which will lead to a huge decrease in the talent pool.

Because the helmet is a weapon. With more padding the game actually got rougher, people think they can run in full speed with heads down.

Also, the helmets are so big you would think it's nearly impossible not to use them. If you watch, you can see why it's so hard to make a clean tackle and still be effective.
