It's a joke and it's boring to watch.

Something like Starcraft doesn't have the depth, strategy, and balance of a game like chess.

It is not fascinating to watch the "athleticism" of someone who has mastered the game of Quake, because he is only sitting in a chair and pressing buttons. The skillset he is demonstrating mastery of is limited compared to the range of skills in an actual sport like baseball.

Multiplayer games are fun competitions amongst friends but to elevate these competitions into "major league gaming" or televise matches is comical, in my judgment.
