And that D20 ends a scarcely believable night that saw a low-quality scrap and a high-quality walloping. But the walloping didn't go the way everyone expected.

Adrian Lewis nearly blew an eight-leg lead in a tight but poor match with fellow chubster Alan Norris. Chuck let his opponent win the first 3 legs before bothering to play, tying it up with a cool 114 before losing yet another 3. A comedy of errors in the 10th leg saw 14 missed leg darts and an invalid underarm throw from Norris but reduced the gap to 2 legs. However, Aidey kept extending the lead, going 10-4 up and hitting a nice 110 in the process. Chuck pulled one back but Snackpot produced a bull start 90 and 136 back-to-back on his way to an 8-leg lead. Lewis's back surgery side-effects fired up and allowed the Lakeside finalist back in the match, with 127 starting a run of 8 legs in 9 that also included a 116. At 14-13, Norris had the 2 T20s in a 160 out but agonisingly missed tops, only to see all chance of a tied game vanish ironically into thin air with a huge 102 from the obese Stokie that completely stunned Chuck and all but ended the fightback.

The big match delivered: a crushing humiliation of one of the greatest players ever seen on the Blackpool stage. Unfortunately, it was Michael van Gerwen who was on the receiving end of the 16- 6 humbling as one of his most under-fire major performances was exposed by the master Phil Taylor. From the moment MVG fluffed 76 and lost throw in leg 1, it was never going to be his night. A display of confused scoring and 22% finishing let Pheel turn back the clock with perfectly timed 180s, superb last dart finishing that resulted in a 57% checkout rate, and the cruellest of all finishes: a 122 on the bull for 10-2. The post-match was typically embarrassing from Pheel, but after MVG's R1 interview, you can't say it wasn't coming.
