Press F to Pay Respects
RIP the best motorsport world has ever seen.
WEC is not dead you baka, that battle between Bykolles and Toyota next year will be awesome.
Every car manufacturer out there is literally SHITTING THEIR PANTS at this whole electric thing, trying to make sure they get in on this new industry as soon as possible, and try and stake their claim in it.
Very interesting times. A monumental shift in automotive history.
Here's a picture of a Tesla for fun.

A full electric car has already set the best lap time on Nürburgring

It will become harder and harder to defend old school fossil fuel engine motorsport, except for the "vroom vroom" argument.

Not really senpai
Formula E is cheap as chips, """"""""green"""""""""" and lets manufacturers pretend they are still racing their cars. All those manufacturers are about to get fines up their ass due to emissions scandals so they're bracing for the eventual impact.
Lets not start talking about electric cars themselves.

mclaren p1 (hybrid) has the record. it beat the nextev time a week later.

With street tyres. The nextev was on slicks.

Indeed. It's pretty clear that electric cars now can offer really amazing performance (better acceleration than ICE cars)
>It will become harder and harder to defend old school fossil fuel engine motorsport, except for the "vroom vroom" argument.
I don't think it's about "defending" things - I think it's just that manufacturers want to develop their electric technology. Which means it makes way more sense to participate in electric racing series.

You think the only reasons they're getting into FE is because it's cheaper and because they all have looming emissions scandals? Which of them have looming emissions scandals?
You're an idiot, they're quite clearly getting into FE because they can see electric cars are the next big market (Tesla has proven there's big demand - and also look at governments, like Britain's, which are BANNING petrol cars in the future, in our case from 2040), and they know that they need to develop their technology, and show to the world that they have great electric technology.
Picture related.

Ah it seems you're right, although it's the P1 LM version (a racing version with a different, fixed rear wing, and I think it's had severe weight reduction too) rather than the stock P1.
But still, the P1 is of course a hybrid. Electric motors are basically allowing for greater acceleration than has been possible with typical ICE-only cars.

Porsche/Audi are part of VAG so thats pretty obvious.
Mercedes is about to get fucked as well https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/22/business/german-carmakers-antitrust.html
And in Formula E teams can only develop the drivetrain, EVERYTHING ELSE including the battery is spec. Manufacturers are pretty much sponsors only.
Tesla is a big meme and goverments saying they'll ban combustion engines in 25 years is just the current governments pretending they are doing something, effectively leaving the problem in the hands of future generations as is standard human protocol.
I really like how most electric car conversations completely ignore companies Exxon and Shell, thinking they're old dinosaurs. They're not oil companies, they're energy companies. Oil is just the most profitable energy resource. If you think they will just let electric memes walk in and erase a good chunk of their bottom line you are severely mistaken.
All it takes is a biofuel that burns cleaner and results in a net DECREASE in carbon emissions, something thats impossible by eletric automobiles. And guess what, that fuel already exists, its just a matter of money.
Ah, yes, let's pollute the world with batteries instead of fuel fumes.
Let's just ignore how toxic and expensive batteries are.

and the fact that you need to produce electricity to make them work, which is absolutely no problem to get
