https://www.fieldgulls.com/2017/7/25/16013272/dak-prescott-derek-carr-comparison-value-raiders-cowboys-qbr-stats-season-outlook-preview

>The difference between the two in 2016 was enormous. For example, QBR is scaled so that a player’s QBR represents expected win percentage based on QB play. Taking each player’s 2016 QBR at face value, a team headed by Carr would be expected to win about 62% of their games, compared to 82% for Prescott (and yes, QBR is predictive of team success - possibly more than any other measure of QB play).

>In 2016, Prescott was better and younger, and going forward he carries a substantially smaller cap hit. We can’t even point to Prescott enjoying the benefits of Dallas’ excellent offensive line as an advantage over Carr’s situation because the Raiders also have a great offensive line. In fact, in my recent study of offensive line play, the Raiders appear to be better at pass protection than the Cowboys.

>The Film

>Dak can do everything Carr can do, but Carr cannot do everything Dak can do. Dak’s mobility offers advantages in play calling diversity (bootlegs, moving the pocket, read option, etc.) as well as the opportunity to pick up 1st downs by scrambling when no one is open downfield.

>Rushing value

>One of the most frustrating things about popular discourse surrounding quarterbacks is the complete disregard of a QB’s rushing value. In terms of expected points added through the ground, Prescott was #3 in the NFL and Carr was dead last out of 30 qualified QBs. Carr gained 5 first downs (0 TDs) on 38 rushing attempts (13% of rushes for 1st downs), while Prescott gained 21 first downs (6 TDs) on 57 rushing attempts (37%). This is somewhat puzzling given that Carr ran a faster 40 and had a higher vertical leap at the combine than Prescott, so he’s not exactly at an athletic disadvantage.

Seattle's bad o line caused a ripple affect that injured russ and then kept there 1st and 2nd string rbs injured most of the season including playoofs this created a really shitty offense that kept the defense on the field 40 minutes plus a game leading to more injuries so by the playoff loss to the falcons they had like 10 Injuries mostly to starters so yes you were right to assume

I'm a big supporter of not changing coaches every 2-3 years if you don't win it all (or at all, I guess). What's funny about it is how willing these billionaire owners are to admit they're dumb. Bills ownership - every two years - yup, we fucked up and hired the wrong guy again! It's been painful to watch even as a division foe. If you believe in a guy enough to turn over your billion dollar franchise to him, stick with him for more than 2 seasons.

Specifically about Lewis, I don't know. I guess a case could be made competing with Pit and Balt has been tough. Those two teams have made it to the conference championship game 8 times in his time at Cincy. He's had more than enough time to win a playoff game, it's true. But I still wouldn't make a change for change's sake.
>>
>>77318143
There is something to be said for more stability. Sometimes you feel like teams are just going for volume as if they believe if they try enough coaches they will find the right one just based on probability.

Yeah, late 90 Pats were great - tons of players who were still here in 2001, especially on Defense. Guy made the playoffs his 1st 2 years with the Pats, and then went 8-8 in 1999. Which sure, 8-8 isn't good, but the AFC East that season was an obscene 49-31.

Herman Moore was otherworldly.

>It's a "Anon makes Bortles seem like he's literally the worst QB in history and can't pass a football at all" episode

Nigga threw 35 touchdowns in 2015. Stop acting like there's absolutely no chance for him to improve

The 2015 NFL MVP had a worse passer rating and completion rating than he did

I'm going to laugh so fucking hard when Bortles game manages Jacksonville to an 11-5 record on the easiest schedule in the NFL and everyone acts like this was some huge surprise when you play the fucking NFC West and the last place teams of the AFC West and AFC East.

He did it in 2015 so he's clearly capable of doing it. There's a night and fucking day difference between 2015 Bortles and 2016.

The question is whether he's capable of cutting down on his turnovers with a literal Earl Campbell clone at RB

>Twenty-two of Bortles 35 touchdowns were thrown in games where the margin of victory was between zero and seven points with only five being thrown in games where the margin was 15+ points. Even if you include games that ended with a margin of victory between eight and 14 points, the grand total is only 13, which again is roughly one third of his total touchdown passes.

Houston is in the list twice because it happened in both games, btw.

Bortles played better than in 2016, but he didn't play well, he was turning the ball over left and right, throwing killer picks, taking 20 more sacks and making a lot of bad decisions.
>>
>>77319586
Meant going into the 4th or something. Regardless Jacksonville was not playing garbage time as much as people think they were.

>He didn't play that much better, his WRs were catching difficult passes instead of dropping them.
As opposed to last year, where his receivers were literally kicking the ball into the other teams' hands, but I suppose planting the ball firmly into Allen Robinson's numbers and having the ball bounce off his chest into Tracy Porters' and Bradley Roby's hands is entirely Bortles' fault

>And he's the opposite of a game manager, he just slings it without care.

>Bortles played better than in 2016, but he didn't play well, he was turning the ball over left and right, throwing killer picks, taking 20 more sacks and making a lot of bad decisions.
Most sophomore QBs aren't going to be perfect. That was his second season as a pro with modified mechanics and he was raw as fuck with a shit tier OLine and a defense he was expected to give an enema every game by way of outscoring the opponent.
>>
>>77319709
Well yeah, the same WRs that made him look semi competent at times in 2015 having a shit year didn't help, but Bortles threw more picks in less passes in his one "good" year.

And no, not every pro QB can be a game manager, the Bears tried to turn Cutler into one and you tell me how well it went. You can't turn Brett Favre into Alex Smith, and you can't turn Bortles into a guy who can throw less than 10 picks a year consistently.
>>
>>77319778
Who's talking about perfection? I'm talking about being good and he wasn't. Leading the league in picks isn't good. 50 something sacks isn't good. 58% completions isn't good. 14 fumbles (5 lost, 2nd in the league) isn't good. Being a turnover machine certainly isn't good.
>>

Ricardo deserved it after that weak fucking move I mean I could have caught that fucking ball, every other receiver on our team could have caught that, and marshawn could have got it in within 2 more plays it was just that 1% outcome nothing can be done about it and it didnt help the following season when Kam held out causing us to lose like 3 or 4 games which cost us homefield advantage ie another super bowl trip

It was the year after, they went 5-11 Belichick's first year. Actually Carroll wasn't in control of the roster - that's what Parcells left. Parcells set Carroll up pretty good - going to the Superbowl in 96, Carroll took over in 97.

Parcells basically left because he wanted to draft Tony Brackens but Kraft went with GM Bobby Grier's choice of Terry Glenn (Glenn set the then rookie record with 90 catches). Then when Carroll came in Grier had some bad picks. When Belichick took over in 2000 he claims the team was very soft. Part of that may have been Carroll's player-friendly style, but I think more it was Kraft. Guys like Bledsoe were friends with the owner, didn't feel much urgency as far as needing to compete for a job.

But yeah, if anything Carroll inherited a winning team. Won a playoff game his first year, actually beat Jimmy Johnson and Marino's Dolphins 3 times in like 5 weeks including the playoffs. Ironically, in the playoff game after playing the Fins twice already in the previous month, they were able to steal Marino's audibles and gave him a very hard time (17-43 - 141 yards - 0 TDs - 2 INT w/ Pick 6). Next year limped into the playoffs without Bledsoe after a gritty fight to get there. Media wasn't fair to him - as they often aren't here. But obviously firing him and hiring Belichick was the right move.

Belichick joined the Pats in 1996 after they started 0-2 as Belichick's assist head coach. So he'd worked with many of those guys before. And after they won the AFC East in 2001 they were celebrating on the field at Foxboro and Belichick jumped into Lawyer Milloy's arms and shouted "We're back!" - a reference to their Superbowl run back in 1996. But I think a deeper meaning was they were back to the toughness they had that year on defense (they allowed 3 and 6 points in their 2 AFC playoff games that year). Meaning, they had lost it during the Carroll years.

Possible but Carroll likes to rebuild and it took him like 3 years to make Seattle good and 4 for a super bowl. it was very likely he was trying to build it a certain way and didn't get the chance to finish. and Seattle's defense has been really good for awhile now but Carroll was probably a completely different coach now as compared to than but with the success he has had in seattle it's very possible that with Carroll or Belichek the patriots would have ended up with plenty of bowls

Brady threw a costly INT in the 4th Q. Up 5 with 8 minutes left on the Panthers' 9. 42 seconds later they were down 1.

The actual difference in SB 38 was the 2-Point Conversions. Like a dip shit John Fox went chasing the points before he needed to. Missed two 2-pt conversions. So when the Pats retook the lead they had nothing to lose by going for two, which they converted (same play White got the Pats 1st 2-pointer in SB51 - direct snap).

So that's a 3 point swing on 2-point conversions. Final score 32-29. Don't chase the points until you have to!

He drafts skill positions well golden tate, doug baldwin, tyler lockett are good examples. And the Seattle method has been to train the OL up with Tom Cable not exactly to go around drafting Tyron Smiths. And maybe at some point they get memed out of a division win like they always do. I'm fairly confident going with 13-3, with 19-0 as the (very high) ceiling and 12-4 as the floor. It is almost a guarantee that they win the Owl, though. Lastly, the other anons are correct in that the defense is not composed of a bunch of world-beaters like they were round the turn of the millennium.

Retard detected. Patriots offensive line is bad (muh solder and cannon, stop listening to PFF ), pass rush is abysmal unless we blitz. We're by no means a perfect team.

12-4 is realistic, 10-6 at worst, 19-0 at best.

They got their only challenge in the postseason from the falcons who had lost to the cowboys and the seahawks earlier in the season. If that was not one of the easiest if not the easiest playoff runs ever than wtf was I mean Brock jeweller and the 9-7 Texans who barely made it to the playoffs with no offense, everybody knew the patriots were going straight to the championship and than run into a weak Steelers 10-6 That also barely made the playoffs and had no defense and also lost Leveon Bell half way thru the game I mean it couldn't have been easier I'm positive in the patriots shoes the Cowboys, Falcons, and Cowboys could have made it to the Super bowl

I don't know what level casual one has to be to claim Richard Seymour wasn't an elite player.

I suppose Lawyer Milloy was getting 99 Ratings in Madden prior to 2001 because Pats always get overrated in Madden?

And ultra moron - I gave lots of statistics. What you said was shockingly uninformed. Ty Law was a tremendous player but he was more a all around corner - very physical. But he was not among the best cover corners in the NFL in 2001. He wasn't fast enough. He was great, but not among the best cover CBs in 2001.

You had: Charles Woodson. Champ Baily. Patrick Surtain. Troy Vincent. Aeneas Williams. To name a few.

Why do you think the 2004 Pats were able to hold the record-setting Colts to 3 points in the playoffs WITHOUT an injured Ty Law?

Because his backup Assante Samuel was better, and that's the reason Belichick let him go to the Jets the next season.

I love Ty, he was great. But you don't know what you're talking. Just shut up. Saying Ty Law was the only elite defender on the 2001 is the most retarded thing I've ever read - and I've browsed Reddit before. Think about that. You're a moron.

Specifically about sacks I know he demands his DEs keep their run responsibilities. So someone like Dwight Freeney might get 10 sacks in a season but how many off tackle runs just went right by him because he had his back to the ball doing that spin move?

Plus a QB Hurry could (and often will) lead to an Interception. But fans and media seldom cite Hurries (beyond the game they're calling), only ever citing Sacks.

I remember Chris Slade talking after Tuna Bowl 1 (when Parcells w/ Belichick came back to play Pats in 1997) he was like "Yeah they were running right at me like coach used to warn me about." Basically Slade was a moron who was always too eager to get up field and teams exploited that.

If we're talking match ups then I'll throw in the ravens too. Regular season doesn't mean shit if the teams are injured, the Cowboys choked to the packers, Falcons steamrolled the seahawks and Packers.

Shame the Pats got rid of that guy who was often out of position and missed tackles and then rolled to the championship with the top scoring defense in the NFL.

Laughing a bit as people seem to be trying to crap on the Pats LBs in this thread. Pats have this guy Roberts (rookie last year). He's 5'11" 233, so basically a strong DB playing LB, and he does have DB speed. But what's amazed me is his power.

In the AFCCG last year the Pats had a huge Goal Line stand against Pit. On 1st down Roberts hit the hole and basically dropped Pit's Pro Bowl Guard, DeCastro (shown). Hightower made the stop, but immediately got up and walked up to Roberts to tell him he made a great play.

On the next play, right before the snap Roberts ran up right over the Center. And on the snap it's clear the guy wanted to block down on Branch but had no choice but to take Elandon, which left Branch unblocked to make a tackle for a loss.

And I'd noticed this guy before doing this - hitting the hole at speed and standing up Guards 100 pounds heavier than him. But the thing is - he can hardly get on the field.

>>
>>77324360

I think Bill learned his lesson in 2002 with Tebucky Jones. As much of a laughing stock he was taking bad angles in 2002, he was that dominant in 2001, especially in the owl against the Rams.

But he was one of those "too dumb to live" type people who just happened to be gifted with physical abilities beyond mortal men. I was dazzled by Jamie like everyone else at first but then I started to notice the bad angles. The blown coverage. The lack of effort when someone blocked him on the blitz. Found myself asking "Why didn't he make that fucking tackle? He's an NFL Linebacker - he has to make the fucking tackle." And I honestly wasn't surprised he was shipped out. He started getting national attention and it almost certainly started going to his head, and guys like that can kill a locker room. I don't know this, just guessing.

This is what "meme" means, you know? An idea spreads. The idea - "this guy is a pro bowler" - yet you know 99% of the fans don't really know if a guy is better than anyone else. Collins started making physical freak plays. People take notice, and they should. But the Pats aren't a team that, defensively anyway, produces a lot of superstars. It's "Do your job" not "Get a bunch of sacks and make the Pro Bowl." So every game the announcers would point Collins out - this guy's a superstar in the making. But they weren't breaking down game film. They didn't know if he was covering his assignments or not. They just saw some highlights, and it just perpetuates, like a meme.

It was so perfect when Cleveland signed him for $50 million and the Pats won the SB without him. You couldn't have a clearer example of why they're the Browns and they're the Pats.

Jamie was fun (Roberts may turn out to be equally as fun), but it's obviously they weren't trading him to fill some other need. They wanted him gone. Ask yourself why.
