I don't know a single kid who played football who did anything really productive with his life during/after college. Not to say they were all failures but varying levels of mediocrity.

Football is a cult and it consumes you in the American system. It's all you care about and it grants you status in school. Kids internalize that and become lazy and apathetic about everything else in life.
