NASCAR needs to end this shit with the double-file restarts. Back in the days when it was single-file inside ten-to-go, they didn't have anywhere near this degree of problem with late-race restarts.

It would also make it far easier to determine whether non-leaders jump the restart.

Double-file bunches up the field too much, and it takes several laps even under ordinary race conditions for them to get single file again. In late-race scenarios, you're guaranteeing three- and four-wide racing with double file. That's what caused the Larsen wreck.

Go back to single-file restarts, like every other major brand of racing, and ban blocking (also like most other major forms of racing), and it will fix the majority of the problems we saw today. Leave the pack-racing free-for-all on the quarter-mile county fairground circuits where it belongs.

It's a tradition that should have died years ago. Like I said above, the place for that kind of "racing" is country fairgrounds tracks at (relatively) low speeds. NASCAR outgrew those kinds of venues 40+ years ago, but the racing style has never matured to match.

Sports cars have bumpers and fenders, too, but it doesn't mean blocking and bumping are acceptable at Le Mans or Sebring: it's poor sport, and it's just not safe at 200+ MPH.
