That's not what you should be doing. You should be considering what your squad is able of doing, what you're expected to be doing. Then you build a tactic, which means:

-A formation;
-Roles and duties;
-A way to attack;
-And a way to defend that suits all of what was previously mentioned.

If you can't figure out how the goals will be scored or how your team will defend, you fucking, GODDAMN stop there and actually think for a minute. And read the PasteBin in the OP because there's actually interesting stuff to read in there.

My current setup has an old man playmaker on the right AM (he's supposed to be winger but he can't get past people) who cuts inside, allowing my WB to overlap. My best left fullback is basically a centre back so I won't get much out of him, unless I play my best box to box midfielder there, so instead I have an attacking winger on the left. What's the difference between view only and playable mode? I want to do a long-term save in only one league but I wanna see different clubs become dominant/fall off over time around Europe, as well as have regens from different leagues. If I make 5 other leagues view only (which makes the game a lot faster), are they still gonna be simulated in this level of detail or do I have to make them playable?

Is it worth upgrading the youth facilities again or should I just save up to upgrade the training facilities?

As far as I'm aware youth facilities just impact how well youth players progress when they're on their youth contracts, it doesn't have any affect on the quality of players coming into the academy.

Also as a side note it's pretty funny how I'm making a profit each month as a 6th tier team, probably not realistic at all. Thanks to high ticket prices and 3000+ fans that attend every home game when the league average is probably 400 or so

However I can now update and correct that position. @Seb Wassell (works for SI and is one of the areas of the game he's specifically responsible for) has confirmed that for FM17 changes were made to how the progression calculation is derived. "Determination, along with a large number of other factors, is part of the progression calculation and directly impacts how well a player will train for that month" (Seb's exact words).

Yeah, for teams who lack numbers in midfield, have lots of attackers, and build up wide, an RPM is essential and pivotal. Consider my CWBa attackers - they essentially play like AMR/AML wingers. I only have three players in the center of the pitch and they get basically no support. Hence, my midfield has to put in maximum effort to keep the ball, provide passing options every time etc.

DLPs or DLPd helps by being a holding midfielder, providing a safe passing option behind the other players. The RPMs is extremely important because he roams left and right - with 3 atb and the wing backs in front of the defenders, my team's build up naturally starts from the wide positions. The CWB would both be trapped if the RPM didnt come to the rescue regularly.

lads what is the difference between a defensive centre back and a central defender, and does it matter

Just a little question

When I started out my new save my team had a great ability to create situations collectively (as in, making lots of passes and working the ball into the box to create an enormous amount of situations)

But now my team almost always relies on luck or on individual skill to create opportunities (especially when trying to score the first goal in a match). I haven't touched a thing in my tactics and most teams i've played against use similar tactics (4-1-4-1; 4-4-1-1, etc.). I also seem to struggle to create chances against teams who just seat back and put their whole team on defence. I also used to get like 60% of the possesion during a match but that's also dropped.

Has the game figured out my tactics? i try several different approaches during all of my matches (counter, control, attacking, possesion, pumping the ball into the other side of the pitch, with more strikers, with attacking full-backs)

How should I procced, I mean, what am I supposed to look for in my opponent's tactics?

PS: What does the game actually count as clear-cut chances?

Yeah, I am of the complete opinion that wingers of all forms (I'm looking at you, Inside Forwards) are absolutely shit in all forms in FM 17. If SI wanted to stop winger cross meta, then by god they fucking did it, simply by making Wide Mids and Wide Attacking Mids completely and utterly useless in every sense of the word.

Bittersweet save atm. Entering 21-22 season with Zenit. Lost in the Champs Cup semi because Man U is money balling like crazy, lost in Russian Cup quarters because >I promise to start you in cups.
End up winning the division, which is nice. Make record profits, but my Zenit-2 squad just got relegated from the first division so my attempt at being like Barca and stock piling assets is all sorts of fucked since I can't have fgn players on that Zenit-2 squad.

Probably not. The AI magically adapting to your tactics over night is a myth. Post your tactics and let's see.

What I usually do when I see the AI starting out on Defensive (happens sometimes, if your team's reputation is high), is try putting them under a lot of pressure from the start.

Attacking mentality, push the Wing Backs up, high defensive line, wider play, overlaps, encourage roaming from positions and quicker distribution PI on the GK. If you have the quality, more often than not you will score a goal or two and then you can switch back and play a safer game.

That's my approach, some people tend to be more patient and prefer to lure the opponent out with dropping deeper and standing off more than usually for example, rather than use high pressing. If there's not a huge quality difference between the teams, that's probably the safer approach.

Not sure if there's a clear definition of that anywhere, but here's how I understand it:
