You know they wanted to shake up Quali? Why not make track specific qualifying sessions. So before the season starts decide what quali each track gets (to stop conspiracy gayness). Say most tracks have the normal quali but maybe something like street circuits get something different.
>Monaco, Singapoor Baku
One shot quali over 3 sessions. Go in reverse order of the championship and each session every driver gets one lap only, if they fuck it they are fucked. Bottom 5 in first 2 sessions eliminated, first 10 have to start on their session 2 tyres as always.
>Tracks with quick pitlanes like Monza
The elimination quali but not in the shit format it was done last time. 10 minutes to put in a lap, then after that every minute a the slowest car is eliminated even if they are on a hot lap. Every 5 minutes all times are reset and there is a 5 minute grace period to set another time. It should work out like a mini race and fans will have a session of cars constantly out on track.
>One wide track, maybe COTA:
Cars race in pairs from a standing start. First round leader of the championship faces off against the bottom of the championship and 2nd faces 2nd worst etc. In the 2nd round the fastest time from the first round is paired against the slowest time of the first round etc. In the final rounds the fastest overall time gets to go to the final while the other 4 have 2 semi finals.
Any other ideas?

Why should it be about the fans or 'the show'? It has to be about racing. Everything else simply follows.
I see this same chain of thought elsewhere and it really pisses me off. Politicians try to give people confidence in the economy, but don't focus on improving the economy. The police tries to make people feel safer, as opposed to actually being safer. F1 tries to improve peoples perception of the sport, but not racing itself.
>>77269136
As someone who grew up on SBK and MotoGP I find it incredibly cringy how F1 carries itself off the race track

>for places with a wide pitlane:
Standard Q1 & Q2 to remove cars. Q3 now lasts 20-30 minutes depending on the track.
In Q2 order cars go out to do a single flying lap and come back in. Once the last car has come in cars can then line up at the end of the pitlane to better their lap. Still doing single lap, one car on track runs.
A car can jump the queue at the end but has to wipe any previous time they set.

Look, if no one watched it, there'd be no point in it. Do you think the manufacturers just let people race their non-road legal, non-road relevant cars drive around in circles just for keks?
F1 is a competition between manufactuters over who's able to build the fastest and most reliable cars first and foremost right now. Do you call that a sport?
That's where the conflict lies.
People don't want to watch XWL, they want to see competitive racing for the championship between several drivers instead of just one driver winning everything due to having the best car and a cuck teammate.
>>77269722
“The problems are across the board,” he told The Telegraph. “We’re not marketing the sport, we’re not enabling fans to connect with it on the platforms that are available today, our sponsorship relations are one-dimensional, the events feel old, the hospitality feels as if it’s at least 15 years old.
“There’s a transparency to what we are doing, there’s a context in which decisions are being made. It’s not a case of everybody playing a game of poker, trying to bluff each other. At the moment, it’s not the way it should be if you want a business to be run well.”
>Hungaroring a week from now
I have such nostalgia for the Hungaroring. Every time we go back I'm reminded of Jenson Button's RELENTLESS performance (not my words, check wikipedia) at the 2004 Hungarian Grand Prix. I knew right then and there that he was future WDC material, despite the fact that he wasn't even in his prime yet.
I'd reckon it was a good 7 years before he hit his prime, at the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix. To think that he also won a WDC before then in an underperforming Brawn is simply incredible. IMO that was the greatest single season performance by a driver in F1 history, the kind of thing that puts Fangio, Senna, Prost, and Schumi all to shame.
It's absolutely pathetic that the man was never picked up by a powerhouse team like Ferrari or Red Bull. He would've put Vettel in his place and pounded his boipussy, just like he's done to his teammate every year. With such driving prowess, I can only assume that they made him an offer and, being the true Englishman he is, Button decided he'd rather rebuild his ailing childhood heroes, Mclaren.
Nonetheless, I would expect big things from Button this weekend. The Hungaroring is a real CHASSIS track and I'd bet Mclaren has the best one on the grid. Nothing short of a top 5 in quali would be acceptable. For the race, a podium is on the cards for sure. Just look at the stats this season. Rosberg won every race until Jenson put the Mclaren in the points, and since then hes only won once. He's in Rosbergs head, got that PSYCHOLOGICAL advantage, and will blow the kid the fuck out when they go wheel to wheel. He's gonna be gunning for the win, I'm sure of it. Honestly, the only question I have about this weekend is whether or not Lewis Hamilton can handle racing with a REAL BRITON.

At the start of 2008, Mosley said that he wanted to see through reforms such as budget capping and new technologies like KERS successfully introduced into Formula One before retiring.[111] In March of that year the News of the World released video footage of Mosley engaged in acts with five consenting women in a scenario that the paper alleged involved Nazi role-playing (an allegation that, though dismissed in court as "no genuine basis", allegedly "ruined" Mosley's reputation).[112] The situation was made more controversial by his father's association with the Nazis.[113] Mosley admitted "the embarrassment the revelations caused", but said that there was no Nazi theme involved.[114] He was strongly criticised by former drivers, motor manufacturers and several of the national motoring bodies who form the FIA.[115][116][117] His involvement in the Bahrain Grand Prix was cancelled.[118] Public expressions of support were limited. Mosley says that he received much supportive correspondence,[119] and said that he would continue to the end of his current term, which he said would be his last.[120] Mosley's longtime ally Ecclestone eventually appeared to support Mosley's removal.[121]
Mosley won a vote of confidence at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the FIA on 3 June 2008, with 103 votes in support and 55 against, with seven abstentions and four invalid votes.[122] Several clubs, including the ADAC, AAA and KNAF considered withdrawal from the FIA after the decision.[123] Other formerly critical organisations have since said that they will accept the outcome of the vote and now wish to move on.[124] In July 2008, Mosley won a High Court legal case against the News of the World for invasion of privacy.[125] The presiding judge, Mr Justice Eady, said: "I see no genuine basis at all for the suggestion that the participants mocked the victims of the Holocaust."[126]

What are the advantages/disadvantages of 3 car teams? If Formula 1 is mainly focused on the drivers (Lauda v Hunt / Prost v Senna / Schumacher v Hakkinen) wouldn't it be better to increase the number of drivers? Look at the excitement that young guys like Lewis and Max created on their own. With 3 car teams couldn't we get these guys a seat sooner?
>>77273201
3 car teams = Merc 1-2-3 lol
Merc, Ferrari and RB would take up 9/10 points positions unless one of their cars DNFs
Small teams would have no chance of scoring points and would force a tiny budget team like Manor to pull out
Small teams wouldn't be able to afford to run a third car unless they get a pay driver with a massive budget
You'd have to make the 3rd car ineligible to score points or extend the points down to 15th

The mere suggestion of cost-capping got Mosley booted out of the sport. F1 was too expensive back then with the V8s and now the power unit turbo hybrids have made everything worse.
>>77279343

>>77280218

Are wet races still dead this year? I had hoped that they would learn after Brazil last year but with the ridiculous amount of safety cars again this year I've lost hope.
>>77270581
>>77280123
F1's biggest problem is the lack of entries on the grid. Bigger grid, more seats more drivers. and the disparity between teams comes back to the power units.
F1 needs at least 5 teams to be competitive. The British garagista teams Lotus-Enstone/Renault, Williams, and McLaren need to get their act together and become competitive top teams again to challenge the current big three.
>>77280561
>Renault
>British
>>77279465
>>77280629
that's the joke because it's still based in the same Enstone area since going to back to Bennetton. all of the teams are based in Britian except for Ferrari, despite the flag they race under.
>>77280561
Cheaper, simpler, bigger, (cleaner) engines.
Like you say, right now it so comes down to the power trains, especially because the principle is so complicated.
A company like Honda has been failing at it since 3 years. Renault is reliable, but shit. Ferrari has been getting competetive but is still a bit behind Mercedes, who are pretty much behind these regulations.
We should get to a point where every team can have their own system again, so smaller teams could consider entering.
The only other thing I could see happening is a big electric system with induction on the race track, it would make for fun races, but it would be near impossible to make that happen.
>>77280561
nigga plz, nothing you said makes sense

>Ferrari, who are Sauber
What a twist! They are competing for first and last at the same time.
>>77280742
we haven't had the same level of variety in F1 since pre-2008 financial crisis when F1 still had Toyota and BMW. Manor Caterham HRT joined F1 with the idea that they were "promised" a cost-cap by Mosley.
Since then F1 has lost more teams than it has added. Since power units started Honda can't supply a second team yet and fulfill the requirement for engine supplier. Haas is a Ferrari B-spec team. They get help building their car.
>>77269336
Elimination qualifying could have worked if teams changed their strategy and stayed out. The rule was supposed to force teams to stay out on track to avoid the timer running out, but teams didn't want to use up the tires with extra laps.
>>77281006
Also because doing unnecessary laps burns fuel and adds engine/gearbox/etc mileage
>>77269336
>>77281006
How about a ski jump style qualifying?
First in WC against the last, Second against the second to last, and so on. 10 plus some lucky losers get on, then do another lap, some get eliminated, the rest does do a second lap and the final result is determined by them.
Maybe make them use a different tire in the final round, or something like that. You could do a lot with that. And you would have less cars blocking each other during the heads up round. You obviously have one chance though, only, in these.
(And yes. It would be pointless, but so are tired qualifying anyways. And it might be fun.)
>>77281453
Why the fuck dont they just do one round of qualifying anyways
>>77281525
what if the sun gets in my eyes(tm)?
>>77281525
One-shot qualifying where only one car is on track at once? Already tried, it was boring for spectators because they only saw a car once every 65-115 seconds. Also unfair if it rains towards the end or dries up.
One-shot qualifying with a 60 minute session for everyone to go out and set a single flying lap? Because it would be even more boring than the above since everyone would sit in their garages leaving 10-15 minute lulls in on-track action, with only the last 5 minutes containing anything exciting.
>>77281525
They used to do one Fridays, one Saturdays, the best time wins.
They've gotten rid of it to make a single (sellable) event out of it, they've changed to Saturday, single hour, 12 laps format, and there they've gotten rid of it because of too many slow cars on the track at the same time, so the top teams would wait.
And then they went mad, single lap qualifying, two rounds, one to determine the line up for the qualifying, one to determine the race line up.
There the problem was chaging conditions, while teams had to wait to do their lap, and if it started to rain, you'd be fucked.
And then the tiers came.
...I think the ski jump idea would actually solve all of those problems. :^)

F1 should get rid of the used tires rule for qualifying and let everyone start the race with fresh tires.
Get rid of grid penalties for gearbox changes and get rid of parc ferme so you can make adjustments to the car between qualifying and the race. Mercedes dominate qualifying and then the rest of the teams are screwed because you can't make any setup changes for the race.
>>77284282

I think F1 should either be a design & build series or a spec series. It shouldn’t be half and half like it is now where two car manufacturers control the competition and only makes deals with people they know they can beat.
Each part should either be the same or should be designed by the team. You shouldn’t have one team able to buy a race winning engine and another team only able to buy a joke.

also I love how Maylander was watching his mirror like a hawk and just booted it when a wildly pirouetting TR appeared.
>>77285750
Yeah, exactly, that's what I'm wondering though. Is there a procedure that's been defined and taught to the drivers?
Like, only exit the car after the field near you has cleared? It would be hard to see the track in some cases?
Is it their decision in such moments, or in the video? Or do they get gestures from the stewards or told over team radio when it's safe to exit the car?
Or is it the competetive answer? Like, did they see the track conditions, know that the race will be restarted and that they have a chance to finish the race?
If my memory serves me right, didn't Hamilton get put back on the track by the stewards and drive on? It's hazy, so I really can't tell if I'm mixing up something there.

Nurburgring 2007. You absoute bellend.
>>77285818
Or is there nothing at all, everyone is on their own, and that's why Bianchi is dead?
>>77285818
My guess would be:
>They can hear if all the cars have cleared or not, so they might not need to see them
>They have learned from the feeder series what to do during a crash, and know that if they fookin slipped at that corner then someone else probably will
>The stewards would probably have indicated that cars were still flying over
>The guys on the radio are telling the driver that it is unsafe to exit and whether or not the car is fucked
Anything like this is probably a case of everything you said working together to varying degrees.
>>77285842
Yeah, that makes sense, actually. I'm just clueless when it comes to those aspects in F1, so I wouldn't know if there is a FIA approved twelve step "How to leave the car if you fucked your shit"-guideline or if it's more part of everyones job and the whole thing comes naturally.

My grandpa thinks F1 should have 3 car teams but only have the highest placing car from each team count towards points for the WCC while the WDC remains the same. All these fucks who want engine penalties to go away or who talk about separating the WDC from the WCC are trash. It's a team T E A M sport. The driver is the end of a very long chain of effort to field the cars and trying to marginalize all of the effort that goes into making the car because poor you doesn't like to see their chosen carbabby in the back is completely fucked. When the driver fucks up, the team has to try to pick up their slack and vice versa. You would be better off watching a spec series, Formula 1 is not for you (your grandfather).

I like the Hungaroring too.
We need twisty, slow permanent circuits on the calendar, in addition to fast, open tracks and street tracks.
>>77287009
Yea and he will still be a millionaire who can do literally whatever he wants and has the power to get a seat with relative ease from just about any racing series, including Formula 1.
>>77288079
Everyoe likes Hungaroring. Great meme-races, also fun to drive in sims because of dat blind corner.
>tfw semen demons are out there trying to steal my semen
Better stay at home today.
>Button almost joined Williams for 2017
>he would have surpassed Rubens for the most starts by a single dover
>he would have taught Stroll how to win the WDC in a shit underfunded car
He would have been, truly, RELENTLESS
>>77288079
Bahrain but that has become more liked.
>>77288079
I like Abu Dhabi desu
>>77278868
I feel like I should screencap this. It's probably the nicest thing you've said about Max.
How do you drive fast?
>>77288274

General admission so fuck knows, probably Biassono or the Lesmos. Went in '15, opposite pit exit and witnessed the biggest chorus of porco dios probably in history when Kimi had /that/ start

N-no, I'm another expat

Mmmm I'll be bringing a backpack of tinnies but FUCK heineken

I remember that, had the same reaction

Gotta get me one of those, I'm running out of beers I haven't tried here
>>77288462
peroni/nastro azzurro is ok as a beer to neck on a binge. beyond that dunno really, i like belgian/german stuff
>>77288506
it was probably the first time since he'd returned to ferrari that he looked FAST in qualy, the hype at the track was crazy and then...

peroni we get here is bottled cat piss. is the italian one better?
>>77288730
>peroni we get here is bottled cat piss. is the italian one better?
(no)
>>77288652
I didn't had hopes but I sincerly hoped he could snatch the lead for a couple of laps just for the fans
>>77288730
It's not great here by any means but a step up from heineken/tuborg. I dunno if it's a different recipe or whatever in the UK but nastro and peroni are much nicer there.
Tldr fuck knows
>>77287713
I think Sauber could win this. Not 100% sure.
Hyped
>tfw Hungaroring favors a shorter wheelbase
my digits suggest Ricci will win the race in a one two for Red Bull. Hamilton will get 3rd after coming through the field to recover after Seb tried to take him out at turn 2 only to have to retire with a broken suspension.
>>77288989
Nice try Luigi, but at least you got Ricci winning right.
>>77287915
I'm so used to seeing him smile all the time that these Monaco pictures look photoshopped.
For me, it's the Honey Badger
post yfw he runs away with your sister and the championship.
>>77287758
an excellent question
>>77288989
So close guess that means Max fucks up and Hamilton gets 3rd behind BO77AS instead
Toyota should make an F1 comeback. The budget wasn't the problem. But they're too traumatized from the Le Mans curse.
>>77286240
>>77286208
Customer cars or being a spec series would inflate the grid numbers but that goes against one of the main principals of F1 which is to design and build your own chassis. but if one of the current big three pull out of F1 then it might as well be a spec series.
I'm from the future. Perez will win 2 races this season. I will not say which.

Toyota's biggest issue was that they spent billions and were so smug about "Their way" of doing things that they fired the only real technical director they ever had because he "Made too many decisions based on gut feel and experience" and did everything by a committee until they withdrew.
fuck you chapman.
add more cylinders.
Thanks to vidya simulations you don't have to worry about logistics or be restricted to the Time Space Continuum to go for the triple crown of motorsport.
>>77286621
You can keep the Falklands, but if you promise to put Button instead of Hamilton.
But fuck, I love this track.
