Because at younger levels, scouts will literally not even look at you unless you meet a certain minimum height. So almost every player lies and adds an inch or two. Chris Paul is listed as 6'1" but he's not even 5'11". In rare cases, players will deliberately under-report their height (Durant pretended to be 6'8" for years when he's actually 7'0") so they can play as guards or wing players instead of as bigs.
