I say 'remaining privateers' because so many (Shank, Dyson to start) have effectively gone pro with some manufacturer-funded deal somewhere.

IMSA could help this by splitting the DPis into a manufacturers' championship and the WEC-specs into a teams' trophy, then there wouldn't be a "well if i cant get a Cadi DPi fuck it I'll just race GT3/protolites/whatever" logic to non-entrants who (probably correctly) don't think they can crack into the new top four:

There's a contract clause for his final season like Danica's in that he could leave or Hendrick could shut down the ride. But it's more that he lost Farmers and Great Clips for his Sprint racing team as well so he's out of luck for sponsorship on all ends. Reading between the lines here... Rick wants Byron to get another year in Xfinity and take over the 5 in 2019. So ideally they can get Kahne a sponsor and that'll take care of 2018. But if they can't, it'll be the Liberty University 5 car next year.

Jimmie, Chase, Bowman and Byron would be some team.

We're a couple of years away from most every driver being in their 20s. It's a lot more economic friendly to the owner to have those team friendlier contracts. If you're gonna have a vet, he needs to be worth it.

Kahne will be in the 5 until he retires.
