There's a Russian show on Saturday too. Misha Aloyan fights for the WBC Silver in only his second pro bout and is apparently supported by the Chudinov brothers and Egor Mekhontsev, although BoxRec doesn't list the undercard for some reason

Who the fuck is Craig Baker and why would Arum put this fight on the Crawford card instead of the Lomachenko one?

He's actually fighting on the untelevised portion of the next Crawford show. If he's going to continue fighting then he really needs to drop a few levels

>>77190397
Like that means anything. It's a clear step backwards from Gvozdyk's last four opponents. Arum better not have him just sit on his ranking now
>>
>>77190247
Alvarado's got a bad lisp, he's always kinda talked like that. Not that I'm trying to stick my head in the sand about what boxing does to people, it's a brutal sport
>>
>>77190560
Gonzalez - robbed against Pascal
Chilemba - frustrated Kovalev and was robbed against Bellew and Alvarez
Karpency - beat Chad Dawson
Mohammedi - OK, not great, but had fought Cleverly and Kovalev and held the WBA Continental for a while

Baker - got stopped by Edwin Rodriguez. Only recognisable win is some guy who beat Jeff Lacy but was stopped by Thomas Williams Jr

Baker has clearly been operating at a lower level than the previous four opponents

>“When I fought Golovkin, in rounds three, four and five, where I got my best work done at, was on the inside,” Monroe explained. “And I found out that Golovkin is a mid-range fighter. If you’re too far away from him, he’s just gonna walk you down and try to cut off the ring. If you’re too close to him, he can’t get off. When you’re right in his wheelhouse, right in his power, that’s where he can be really dangerous. That’s where he is dangerous at.

>“And with Canelo, I think the only style that beats Canelo is legs. You have to have legs. Canelo has great upper-body movement, awesome inside work, very good counter-puncher, but his feet aren’t fast. So the things that give Canelo problems are fighters with good feet. Nothing else really gives Canelo problems. And when I say good feet, I’m not just talking about cutting off the ring like Golovkin does, because Canelo’s not gonna be moving. Canelo wants you to come to him, so he can counter. And Canelo’s faster than Golovkin. So personally, I think Canelo stops him in nine or 10.”

I've thought about this, and in terms of GGG-Canelo, I think its either Canelo by UD, or GGG by stoppage via body shots.

Both have proven to have granite chins so I don't think anyone will get buzzed, and while I think Canelo is the technically better boxer, he doesn't go to the body as well as GGG.

So unless GGG invests in the body, I see it as a Canelo decision.

He left Golden Boy before the Eddie Hearn fling. He's with Al Haymon now (promoted by Dade promotions) which is why the fight can get made because they're both with Haymon. They're probably going to overpay Wilder for this fight which is why it will be on showtime rather than CBS or FOX.

I think Ortiz is over rated because American heavyweights are so dog shit now they want to talk somebody up. Wilder is a lot bigger than him, the judges will probably gift him a couple of rounds like the Washington fight so I could see him getting a decision. Ortiz might also chin him though which would be fantastic so good fight.
>>
What significance do The Ring and lineal titles have?

>Wilder is a lot bigger than him

Actually he's 20 lbs smaller

>the judges will probably gift him a couple of rounds like the Washington fight so I could see him getting a decision

It isn't never going the distance

I actually agree that Ortiz is a little overrated and I'd confidently pick Joshua, Klitschko and Fury to beat him, but Wilder is food for him. He will snipe right down the pipe while Wilder is loading up those windmill hooks and make him do the Zab Judah dance. Fair fucks to Wilder if he actually takes the fight because it will destroy his chances of a Joshua payday and he has a much better shot at beating Parker than Ortiz
>>
>>77203718
The Ring doesn't mean anything ever since De La Hoya took over the magazine. It's compromised

>>
>>77201396
The winner of Cuadras vs Estrada will be the mandatory challenger for the WBC. We could also get loser vs loser too, so Cuadras still has a good chance of getting his rematch. We've got the makings of a modern day Fab Four down at super fly - Fab Five if Inoue gets involved
>>
>>77204713

I meant height I know he's only about 225, he should be looking to stay on the outside and keep moving but his problem is he can't box. He won't get Parker, either he loses to Hughie or beats Hughie and then he's going to want Joshua or Bellew for the money.

Ortiz is dangerous and I think Haymon may be looking to score some easy step-aside money. Wilder's PBC ratings have been dropping for a long time and I don't think the officials are going to do him any favors. If memory serves, Stiverne is the only top 10 ranked opponent he's defended against, I'd be shocked if Ortiz didn't put him to sleep

I actually don't understand these people.

Why is the former opinion with regards to McGregor and Mayweather considered acceptable?

Floyd is old and not as good as he was when he was fighting Canelo and Maidana, being 40 is no joke. If he smells weakness and feels that McGregor is out of his depth then he will break him down and take him out. If it doesn't happen it will be because he's against somebody who's bigger and motivated to stick it out. It all depends on Floyd's attitude to the fight.

Ive always wondered.

Im 168 right now, and don't really watch what I eat too much. In decent shape right now, but basically only run 4-5 times a week and some other conditioning.

What weight would I fight at?

I was thinking if i dieted hard and was in a training camp I could probably get to like 160 and cut to 147, but id be starving myself. thoughts?

>>
>>77227404
it would kill you (probs) getting to 147 from your current weight to 147, but you could probs make 154 decently

it depends on your natural frame, amount of muscle/fat etc

if you already have more extra flesh on your bones its easier to cut more, but if you're "skinny" for your weightclass it will obviously be harder

This how I want to be when I become an amateur.
>>
>>77227839
what age are you bro
I do about 2-3 hours training 5 days a week and that keeps me in agreeable enough shape

before a fight I just focus more heavily on the technical side of things and eating right, its good not having to worry about cardio or strength
>>
>>77227839
Unironically that is how the amateurs train. They have competitions basically all year round.
>>
>>77227873
18, I paid for 7 months of training(4 one day a week beginners training in June($80) and now I've been in the recreational classes for 3 weeks) I'll go amateur in January. I should probably be acting like I'm in camp 24/7 now but I don't have a job(looking for one at the moment) and still in High school because I failed a few classes. my family says they'll support me but I'm not sure how true that is. worse part is that thy have me doing cross fit exercises like bear crawls and other memes that I cant escape from.

>tl;dr
I'm a shitty person that dreams big
>>
>>77227873
Jesus that sounds tough. Not that anon, but I'm 24 and feeling old in the game. Looking to go amateur as well. How often do you spar on those training days?

I'm going maybe three times 2-3 hours but I just started half a year ago. Work is kind of taking up a ton of time.
>>
>>77227979
>I'm a shitty person...
I feel you brah
>>
>>77227979
hmm, seems your amateur gyms work very differenty to ours, at least you are still young enough to actually succeed if you are committed enough, best of luck anon

>>77227987
im 24 too, I've always been an athletic type though and certainly not feeling old yet.
I don't spar that often, there are certain guys I enjoy sparring with who i'll spar with sometimes thrice in one week, then other times I might only spar once in 2 weeks or once a month, generally I prefer light sparring too, I'll never turn pro so I just don't see the point of getting IQ points knocked out of me, sparring sessions do sometimes escalate though as i'm sure you're aware

>>
>>77228060
you ever see that GGG pic where he is absolutely bathed in rosados blood
>>
>>77228030

im a different leaf. But how do your gyms work there?

The one I go to, is you pay for a month and they have either beginning class, or competitive team training. Basically no open gym.

Session starts with skipping, then shadow, then bag drills, some open bag rounds, maybe some light technical sparring, then a circuit and abs to finish off.

Competitive training follows the same format just more intense and more expected of you.

We spar monday and fridays. Monday is usually hard sparring and pretty open, friday we usually work on specific things and go quite light.

Its all really structured which is ok, but I wish the gym was open more than like 3 hours a day.
>>
>>77228030
Thanks man, How do your amateur gyms work? Here you pay $90 to (in Ontario) to the company that runs amateur boxing, get a check up at the docs and then fight(that's overly simplified of coarse) I wanna go pro as well but I'm going to stick with amateur for a year or two and just try to get as many fights as possible in that time so that the Olympic commission notices me.
>>77228003
We'll all make it brah.
>>
>>77228091
>>77228102

here you only pay for each individual session which is like £2 (I live up north so maybe cheaper than southerners)
the gym will have perhaps 3 active days a week, youngsters and beginners earlier, then olders after that. No paying in advance at all, most the gyms I've been to will have one day a week where instead of the typical circuits and drills they will have a sparring day

once the coach of your gym decides you're good enough to start fighting you get weighed in and registered and then various gyms across the city will put on fight nights where you will fight people from other gyms, so most amateurs will only fight once a month or less (though if you take initiative you can get more fights)

the level of strictess varies between gyms, some will let you drill on your own whereas most will follow a more strict format
>>
>>77228167

do you guys have to do medicals to spar or only when you compete?
>>
>>77228187
medicals only to compete

i've never thought about medicals for sparring but it makes sense, since I've seen plenty of people get fucked up doing it
>>
>>77228167
Jeez I hope my gym lets me take charge of my own camp because I'm certain I know more than they do. In school we have a weightlifting class where we'd work out for an hour 3 days a week for one semester, I've only taken glances at my gyms weight area because it's upstairs and all I can really see are smith machines and dumbbells.
>>
>>77228207
That would be so much more convenient.medicals are such a hassle here. Sitting in a clinic for an hour, then you have to piss in a cup and take a blood test, wait a week or two to get results, then pay 100 to get the doctor to sign off.

I don't have a current one right now as they expire every year, but I sparred a month ago to help one of the guys prepare for his fight.
>>
>>77228254
well you shouldn't really be focussing too much on weightlifting as a boxer, but a good idea might be to find a second (nonboxing) gym that has weights and punching bags, then when you aren't at the boxing gym you can spend time focusing on the things that you want to

>>77228265
that does sound like a pisstake, and it probably only serves to hamper the progress of leaf boxers as people decide they cba with all that
>>
>>77228296
I want to be more of a slugger+In fighter plus weightlifting is really fun for me. That's my main issue with my gym actually, they never asked my what kind of fighter I wanted to be or what type of training I wanted to do they just make me do burpees in between sets of suicides and it all seems detrimental to my growth as a fighter.
>>
>>77228473
don't worry too much for now on what type of fighter you will be, that will develop on its own, don't force it and for now just try to be good at every aspect of the sport, whatever you excel at will reveal itself in time

most of your early training will be cardio and conditioning, so expect a lot more of that type of stuff but don't let it dishearten you, think of this like the part of the kung fu film where the master forces the guy to sweep floors and make tea for months on end

it may not seem like it has much point to you right now, but it does
>>
>>77228574

Shoot alright that gives me hope. I've been diving into sparring extra hard because it's pretty open here. Been getting headaches this week so I actually took today off.
The thing is, the gym also does crossfit, but also has professional boxers so I'm trying to get away from the crossfit aspect. But now I have no idea which exercises I should keep doing.
I want to move eventually too. And have no idea how getting a license works in different states.
Also I'm a fairly lanky dude, 5"11 ish but I'm aiming to fight at 140 ish
>>
>>77229765

Dang really? I like the gym a lot, and its the best prices gym around my area. (bay area CA).

Well recently I've been doing my own stuff. Start out with ropes, shadow box, heavy bag, double end bag, back and shoulder, core then finish off with speed bag. Sometimes I substitute strength training with mitts if someone is down to help out.
The things I'm dubious about are kettle bell swings, burpees, and probably one or two others that I'm forgetting right now.

Stay ready so you don't have to get ready. If you're using camps to make weight, that's not a good look. Camps are supposed to help you get your timing and sharpness in check, as well are prepare you for your opponent's style while your sparring partners give you different looks.

This. Burpees and sprints are like the only exercises I have found that make me gas out like being in the ring.

You can do as many 8 miles runs as you want but the exhaustion and lack of breath is really hard to replicate short of being in the ring. Even pads don't seem to gas me out like sprints or burpees.
>>
>>77229981

Well, it might be minor concussion. Do you feel like you're in the middle of a bad hangover and do you feel a little dumber like you have to make an effort to think?
>>
>>77230353

first few months I sparred all we did was go to war. It was the dumbest shit ever. So much harder to work on skills when you guys are going full speed.

a new coach started running sparring at my gym, and we go really light sometimes.

Like we do a drill wear one guy can only jab or counter, while the other guy can throw whatever. You get so much more out of sparring when you actually have things to work on and are able to try it out without being scarred of getting into a war.
>>
>>77230357

>>77230418
This actually sounds like exactly what I need to do. But we don't have a sparring coach really, so we kind of always just go to war. It's tiring for sure, and after the sparring the more experienced guys give us tips. The first time I sparred with an amateur he was actually really nice. We went 5 rounds of 3 minutes, and each round he would stop, tell me what to work on the next round, and get slightly more aggressive. So he really showed me first hand how strong setting the pace is, since after he started to set the pace I got GASSED.
